Hertha BSC vs. SpVgg Greuther Fürth
The 5th matchday of the Bundesliga is just around the corner and for the kick-off we can look forward to the duel between the capital club Hertha BSC and SpVgg Greuther Fürth on Friday evening. The match will be played at Berlin’s Olympiastadion from 20:30.
The last duel between these two clubs was over 10 years ago, as the last time SpVgg made a one-year short visit to the Bundesliga in 2012/13, the Alte Dame had recently been relegated to the second division. The two clubs have subsequently swapped leagues again, so they have skilfully avoided each other. However, there will be no way around the clash on Friday evening and what we think about this game, you can read now in our Hertha vs Fürth tip.

Hertha -Fürth Tip
The Berliners finally managed their first win of the new season after the international break. Even though the footballing performance still left a lot of room for improvement, the Alte Dame were able to win 1:3 at VfL Bochum in the end and take their first three points. Against Greuther Fürth, the second team to be promoted, who have only managed to pick up one point from their four games so far and are now 18th in the table, Hertha BSC will be looking for the next three points at home.
Hertha Form & Balance Check
It was probably not just a stone, but a whole truck full of stones that fell from the hearts of Pal Dardai and his team last weekend. After three defeats from the first three games and a poor start to the season to the maximum, the Berliners took the first three points of the new season last weekend in Bochum. Football-wise, there was still little good about it, but in the end it is primarily the result that counts – and on this day, for the first time, that spoke in favour of the Alte Dame, who, despite an “Expected Goals” value of 0.3, did score three goals. So far, the only time the capitals have topped this value was in their 6:1 home victory over Eintracht Frankfurt in the 13/14 season.
Berliners show themselves unusually effective
The Berliners are now looking for their first home win of the new season against Greuther Fürth, the second team to be promoted. It would be the first time since May 2020 that the Alte Dame can win two Bundesliga games in a row. To do so, Suat Serdar & Co. should focus on one thing in particular – effectiveness. In the first four matchdays, the Berliners had the fewest shots on goal in the league (36), but still managed to score five goals from them. Against Bochum alone, five shots on goal were enough for three goals. Fürth, for example, only managed two goals with 44 shots on goal. On Friday, it will once again be crucial to see who can make the most of their few chances.
Hertha facts & analysis
– 3 points from 4 games
– Last lost 1:3 in Bochum
– Last 3 duels with Fürth survived without conceding a goal
– Fewest shots on goal in the league so far (36)
Fürth Form & Balance Check
For the visitors from Fürth, the season is going more or less as many experts predicted. The squad simply does not have the quality to be able to hold its own at Bundesliga level in the long term. So far, the only time the cloverleaf has managed to keep at least one point at home was in the 1-1 draw against relegation candidates Arminia Bielefeld. The other three games were lost against VfB Stuttgart (1:5), Mainz 05 (0:3) and VfL Wolfsburg (0:2), more or less without a chance. The Franconians now sense their chance to collect the next points of the season at the struggling capital club Hertha BSC.
Newcomers must take responsibility
Statistics don’t exactly speak in favour of the promoted side, though, who have yet to win any of their three previous guest matches at Berlin’s Olympiastadion (2N, 1U) and are also winless in five competitive matches (as long as they were last between March and June 2020, when they won 6). Only the fact that Hertha are extremely limited in terms of play at the moment and, just like Fürth, have to come through fight and passion should give the visitors some encouragement. If they still lose this game, the cloverleaf can expect to wait until at least matchday 7 for their first win, as the home game against the record champions from Munich is scheduled for a week later.
Fürth Facts & Analysis
– 1 point from 4 games
– Last lost 0:2 against Wolfsburg
– Winless in 5 competitive games
– Only 2 goals scored (penalty vs. Bielefeld + consolation goal 90th minute vs. Stuttgart)
Predicted line-up – last update on 16 September 2021
The Berliners could line up with the three-man defence of Stark, Boyata and Dardai. In midfield, Ascacibar and Boateng are further options. In the attack, Marco Richter and/or Jurgen Ekkelenkamp could also be in the starting eleven.
The visitors from Fürth could appear unchanged compared to the 0:2 against Wolfsburg. Only Jeremy Dudziak is a serious alternative in our eyes.
