Here we go again! We wanted the dream final, and we got the dream final. The big Wimbledon final will take place on Sunday between the world’s number 1 and number 2, with the two tennis giants meeting for the 13th time.
It was only a few weeks ago that the duo gave us an absolutely epic French Open final that seemed to go on forever. So everything is set for another five-set thriller, which is exactly what neutral spectators are hoping for.
I now have the great honor of giving my detailed Sinner Alcaraz prediction for this blockbuster match. In the end, it will probably be the famous little things that decide the winner and loser. However, I’m leaning towards the Spaniard, because anyone who has won five matches in a row knows exactly how to beat the world number 1.
Serial winner? Wimbledon has seen it many times before. After Roger Federer won his eighth title on the hallowed turf in 2017, a period of unbroken dominance was supposed to begin.
First, Novak Djokovic won the title four times in a row, then Carlos Alcaraz was crowned champion twice. The Spaniard is now set to achieve a hat trick, and at just 22 years of age.
I would like to start my analysis with the player who enjoys the reputation of being everyone’s darling. Because: It wouldn’t have taken much for him not to even reach the second round of this tournament!
He had a really tough start against Fabio Fognini, only clinching the match 7-5, 6-7, 7-5, 2-6, 6-1 in the fifth set. After taking a deep breath, Alcaraz quickly disposed of Oliver Tarvet (6-1, 6-4, 6-4) and Jan-Lennard Struff (6-1, 3-6, 6-3, 6-4).
He also needed a fourth set against Andrey Rublev, but that didn’t matter in the end, winning 6-7, 6-3, 6-4, 6-4. In the quarterfinals, he made short work of Cameron Norrie, winning 6-2, 6-3, 6-3.
Taylor Fritz was a really tough opponent in the semifinals. In an incredibly close match, it was Alcaraz who came out on top again. 6-4, 5-7, 6-3, 7-6, that must have taken a lot of strength.
With 88 percent of points won, the two-time defending champion shone on his first serve, allowing only one break to his opponent. Against Norrie and Rublev, the percentage was already over 80 percent, so the world number two has improved noticeably here.
His last three opponents were only allowed to break twice in total, which is of course really strong. The Spaniard knows how crazy a Wimbledon final can be. In 2024, he won in straight sets against Novak Djokovic, but a year earlier it took him five sets to beat the Djoker.
I’ve already hinted at it: Jannik Sinner is by no means a player to be feared. A few weeks ago, Alcaraz snatched the title at the French Open after trailing 4-6, 6-7, 6-4, 7-6, 7-6.
He has won all of their last five head-to-head matches, with Jannik Sinner last winning in 2023. Also exciting: the last three matches were decided in the final, so Alcaraz’s nerves must be made of steel.
Three years ago, there was a match at Wimbledon – Sinner won 6-1, 6-4, 6-7, 6-3. If you take a look at our bookmakers with fast payouts, you will see that there is no clear favorite here.
1.90 to 1.95 on average (with slight variations, of course), there is a slight advantage for Spain. Jannik Sinner will certainly not be bothered by this, as the only thing that matters to him is that his injured elbow holds up.
The curious round of 16 match against Grigor Dimitrov could have been a turning point for the South Tyrolean. The score was 3-6, 5-7, 2-2, and everything looked like an upset was in the making. Suddenly, Dimitrov had to retire due to injury, and the drama allowed Sinner to advance.
What followed were two absolute demonstrations of power. First, the world number one won 7-6, 6-4, 6-4 against Ben Shelton, then he sent grand master Novak Djokovic off the court 6-3, 6-3, 6-4.
Shelton couldn’t break once, Djokovic once, Sinner clearly “needed” the experience against Dimitrov. In the previous rounds, he had no problems at all against Pedro Martinez (6-1, 6-3, 6-1), Aleskandar Vukic (6-1, 6-1, 6-3) and Luca Nardi (6-4, 6-3, 6-0).
The Wimbledon final is a first for Sinner, and he is naturally keen to get revenge after his unfortunate defeat in the Roland Garros final. The 23-year-old is trying to remain cautious.
“I don’t know what will happen on Sunday. We all saw the last final. I hope it will be better than in Paris, even though I don’t believe it will be.” Better than Paris? Let me put it this way: there are a few things that are more likely!
My Sinner Alcaraz tip
The absolute dream final at Wimbledon – everything turned out exactly as tennis fans had hoped. Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz remain the measure of all things; no one can get past this duo.
Alcaraz had won five times in a row. Sinner hadn’t dropped a set in Paris, but then he lost everything despite leading 2-0 and having three match points. The Spaniard is a mental monster.
In my opinion, that could be the difference. I consider both stars to be of equal quality, but Alcaraz’s power and the fact that he has already won Wimbledon twice are appealing factors. That’s why I’m predicting:
Alcaraz will win Wimbledon!
