Manchester United – Wolverhampton Wanderers
One of the season’s ironies: Wolves, who were relegation candidates just a few weeks ago, could overtake Manchester United at Old Trafford on Sunday. While the visitors are celebrating four league wins in a row under Vítor Pereira, the Red Devils are stumbling along in 14th place under Rubén Amorim and are focusing their attention on the Europa League. The Wolves’ 2-0 win in the first leg is still fresh in United’s minds, even if the head-to-head record clearly favors the home side.

Man Utd form & record check
United’s league record is bleak: defeats at Newcastle (1-4) and Nottingham Forest (0-1), with a lackluster 0-0 draw in the derby in between. They have conceded four goals in their last five league games, with structural problems in the back three remaining evident. It is also striking that United did not win the second half in any of these games.
The Red Devils presented a completely different picture in Europe: in their 5-4 win against Lyon, the team showed morale, but even there the defense was porous. Maguire is experiencing a renaissance, Fernandes is keeping the rhythm, but consistency remains the keyword that is missing.
Amorim is likely to opt for a 3-4-2-1 formation again. Bayındır is likely to replace Onana in goal. Mazraoui, Maguire, and Yoro will form the back three. Dalot and Dorgu will play on the wings, with Casemiro and Ugarte providing cover in the center. Fernandes will pull the strings behind Garnacho and Højlund. Long-term absentees such as Martínez, Evans, and Diallo are unlikely to change this basic formation, but some rotation is possible after the Lyon marathon.
Wolves Form & Record Check
Wolverhampton are in impressive form: four Premier League wins in a row, most recently a spectacular 4-2 victory over Tottenham. Pereira’s side have scored at least once in each of their last five league games; there’s no room for boredom.
There is still room for improvement defensively – conceding goals in four of their last five games proves that – but the offense led by Strand Larsen (five goals in four games) and Cunha compensates for a lot. The solid midfield framework with André and João Gomes also ensures balance.
Wolverhampton is only two points behind Tottenham in the table. Another three points would leave the door open for the Europa League.
The Wolves are likely to stick with their 3-4-3 formation: Sa in goal, Agbadou, Doherty, and Gomes in front of him. The wing-backs will work hard on the flanks, while Strand Larsen and Cunha will combine up front. Mosquera, González and Kalajdzic are still out, but Pereira is putting his faith in his tried and tested line-up. The only change could be on the wing if Doherty is not fully fit.
Man Utd – Wolves Head-to-Head & Statistics
In a direct comparison, United have won four of the last five encounters, with Wolves winning once – there has never been a draw in this phase. Three of these games had fewer than 1.5 goals before the break, so they were characterized by a cautious start and a livelier second half. Remarkably, Wolves did not keep a clean sheet in any of these games, with United almost always scoring again after the break.
