SC Freiburg – Holstein Kiel
Our Freiburg – Kiel betting tip is: Both teams to score – 1.77 odds
- Freiburg has conceded 13 goals in the last five games
- Kiel scored five goals in their last league game
- Freiburg have not kept a clean sheet in five games
After a long winter break, the Bundesliga finally resumes for the German clubs this weekend. Before the start of the second half of the season, which in fact is not until in two weeks, it is still completely open which teams will be able to celebrate the European places at the end and which teams will have to go down to the second division. Two teams for whom it is precisely about these two things will meet in the conference on Saturday afternoon when Freiburg hosts Kiel at home.
The emotional states before the start of the second half of the season couldn’t be more different. Freiburg suffered a 5-1 defeat against Leverkusen in their last league game, while Kiel managed to shoot all their frustration out of their system and won 5-1 against Augsburg. However, the favorites are still Freiburg due to their individual quality and home advantage. However, the Störche will appear inspired by their victory. Find out which team will come out on top in this exciting game in our Freiburg – Kiel betting tip.

Freiburg Form & balance sheet check
After a solid first half of the season, the Breisgauer are currently in the running for the European places. Overall, they only had to admit defeat five times in the first half of the season, but one of these defeats occurred on the last matchday, when they went down 5-1 at Leverkusen with no chance.
In the weeks before that, things had been going very well for them, although they did suffer another defeat, but they also managed two wins and a draw. They are currently in ninth place in the table and are only three points away from the places that would qualify them for the Champions League. With a three-pointer, they would at least be safe in the Europa League zone.
Defensively too open
However, SCF seems to have had problems in defense this season and especially in recent weeks. While they were able to keep a clean sheet four times by the tenth matchday, the tide has turned in the last five weeks. In total, they conceded 13 goals and were unable to keep a clean sheet even once. They also don’t seem to have a good hand against promoted teams. They suffered a 3-0 home defeat against St. Pauli on matchday five.
Freiburg facts & analysis
- Ninth place
- In the last five games, 13 goals conceded
- Last league game lost 1:5 against Leverkusen
Kiel Form & Record Check
As a promoted team, the storks have had an extremely difficult time this season. Overall, Kiel have only two wins, two draws and eleven defeats. In the last five games, they have conceded four defeats, but they will certainly go into the upcoming game with a lot of confidence after their dominant 5-1 win against Augsburg.
In addition, they have made an important leap in the table and are much closer to avoiding relegation. Although they are currently still in 17th place, with eight points they are only two points behind the relegation place.
Defensive horror
Similar to Freiburg, but even more serious, Kiel are also incredibly weak defensively. In the 15 matches played so far this season, they have conceded a whopping 38 goals, making them the worst defense in the entire league. Except for in their two wins, their opponents have always been able to score at least two goals in every single game this season.
This is of course far too poor a record for avoiding relegation, but perhaps the success of the last match day will help them to remain more secure and focused defensively.
Kiel Facts & Analysis
- 17th place
- Two wins in the first 15 league games
- Last game won 5-1 against Augsburg
Despite the 5-1 defeat to Leverkusen on the last matchday, coach Julian Schuster will remain true to his basic system. We do not expect any major changes in a 4-2-3-1. It is possible that Sildillia will start in place of Kübler on the right back and that Röhl will also start in attacking midfield.
Kiel will probably start with the same system and the same players after their 5-1 home win against Augsburg. Coach Marcel Rapp has little reason to make any changes this weekend.
Freiburg – Kiel head-to-head & statistics
SC Freiburg and Holstein Kiel have only played each other once in the past. On October 31, 2018, the two met in the second round of the DFB Cup. At the time, Holstein was able to recover well after conceding a goal in the first minute and went on to win 2-1. Although Freiburg had a total of 18 shots on goal, this number was ultimately not enough to prevent them from being knocked out of the cup.
