West Ham Form & Balance Check
The Hammers played a decent game against Crystal Palace on the final matchday and secured their first win of the season. Although the hosts had significantly more possession, West Ham repeatedly launched dangerous counter-attacks and made the most of their big chances in the end. During the week, West Ham also won their first EFL Cup match against league rivals Bournemouth with a late goal from Jarrod Bowen to secure a narrow 1-0 victory.
In the opening game, coach Julen Lopetegui’s team narrowly lost 2-1 to Aston Villa, leaving them in ninth place in the table. Even though City will go into this clash as the clear favorites, Lopetegui is hoping for a similar game to the one against Crystal Palace, in which his team stands deep but still manages to get a shot on target.
Füllkrug only reserve
Niclas Füllkrug, who moved from BVB to West Ham in the summer, has so far only been a reserve under his new Spanish coach. Although the German international was allowed to start in the EFL Cup during the week, he has only been substituted in the two league games so far.
He is still waiting for his first goal in a Hammers shirt. So far, 34-year-old Jamaican Michail Antonio has held down the central striker position, although he is yet to score. Coach Lopetegui could therefore opt for Füllkrug against Man City, who is perhaps better suited to the upcoming opponent as a playmaker for high balls and in terms of running

Man City Form & Balance Check
Manchester City have so far lived up to their role as favorites for the league title. In the opening game against Chelsea FC, the Skyblues gave the Londoners no chance and deservedly won 2-0. In the second game of the season against Ipswich Town, coach Pep Guardiola’s star ensemble also left nothing to be desired, dispatching the newly promoted side 4-1 with 76% possession and only two shots on goal allowed.
This puts the Citizens at the top of the table right at the start of the season and, if they have their way, they will not relinquish it until the end of the season
Phenomenon Haaland
Erling Haaland is and remains the goal scorer in Guardiola’s system. The still only 24-year-old, who scored 27 goals and provided five assists last season, is still in top form at the start of the new season. After scoring the first goal of the new season in the opening game, he followed it up with a treble against Ipswich, taking his tally to four goals after just two games. Whether and how West Ham’s defenders can stop the Norwegian powerhouse remains to be seen, as Haaland already scored against the Hammers last season.
