SC Freiburg – RB Leipzig
After the semi-finals of the DFB Cup were played during the week, the Bundesliga continues this weekend. There are only seven games to go and the tension in the final spurt is rising. On this 28th matchday, SC Freiburg will face RB Leipzig, among others, in the Saturday conference. Find out who will win this game and who you should bet on in our Freiburg – Leipzig betting tip.
Freiburg still have hopes of making it into international play and need a win to do so. Last weekend, they put in a strong performance in their clash with Mönchengladbach, winning 3-0, but SC coach Christian Streich is well aware that Leipzig are a different proposition.
The Red Bulls suffered a setback last weekend in the battle for the Champions League places, as they were held to a 0-0 draw by relegation candidates Mainz. As a result, they remain in the chasing pack and must hope that Dortmund slip up and cannot afford to lose any points against Freiburg. Both teams therefore need a three-pointer if they are not to lose sight of their goal for the season

Freiburg Form & Balance Check
After Freiburg’s debacle in the Europa League and the subsequent defeat against Leverkusen in the league, they were able to recharge their batteries with the recent win against Gladbach. They have seven points from their last five games and are eighth in the table. With 36 points at present, they are still five points behind the final international qualification place and Freiburg are reliant on help from others. Their hopes are still alive, but a defeat would all but seal their place in the European Cup
And Gregoritsch again
Michael Gregoritsch once again put in a great performance in the win in Gladbach. The 29-year-old striker paved the way for his team’s victory with his goal to give them a 1-0 lead, his 5th goal in the last nine games for SC. During the international break, he played for his home country Austria and scored twice in the match against Turkey. He is insisting on a regular place for the final stretch of the season, as he has had to share playing time with Lucas Höler and Roland Sallai this season and has often only come off the bench
Freiburg facts & analysis
- Eighth place in the table
- Last game won
- Five goals in the last two games
Leipzig Form & Balance Check
Leipzig are under pressure in Freiburg. BVB’s loss of points last weekend allowed them to make up points in the battle for the Champions League places and pull away to three points. The Red Bulls have won three and drawn two of their last five competitive matches, including a strong 1-1 draw in Madrid, which sealed their elimination from the top flight. If the Saxons are to be allowed to hum the Champions League anthem again next year, they must not slip up again in the remaining matches
Superiority without a result
Leipzig were clearly superior in their goalless draw against Mainz, but were unable to capitalize. With 20 shots on goal to eight, 67% possession and almost twice as many passes played, Mainz were actually without a chance. Nevertheless, the Red Bulls were unable to get the ball over the line and had to settle for a 0-0 draw. After the game, RB coach Marco Rose was a little disappointed with the refereeing, but also had to admit that there were enough chances to decide the game in his team’s favour and that more penetration was needed against Freiburg to secure the important three-pointer
Leipzig facts & analysis
- Fifth place in the table
- Last game draw
- Not lost in five games
The Freiburg team play with a 3-4-2-1 formation. We expect the recently strong Gregoritsch up front. In central defense, Streich has the choice between Yannik Keitel and Kiliann Sildillia. Options for the midfield are Sallai, Vincenzo Grifo and Florent Muslija.
Leipzig will adopt a classic 4-4-2 formation, with the back four unchanged from the game against Mainz. In midfield, Amadou Haidara returns to the squad after serving his yellow card suspension and is likely to make the starting eleven. Kevin Kampl replaces him on the bench. We also expect striker Benjamin Šeško to start
