Miami Masters, 2nd round, Sunday, 24.03.2024
German duel in the second round of the Miami Masters. Daniel Altmaier meets Jan-Lennard Struff. The two tennis aces know each other well, even though they have only faced each other once in their careers at ATP level.
In Paris in 2020, Daniel Altmaier was clearly the stronger player. However, the current form curves clearly point to a victory for “Struffi” when they meet again.
I’ll now tell you why this is the case and why I’m also predicting victory in the first set and a match win for the player from Warstein at Betano in my Altmaier Struff betting tip!
A sports Saturday in German colors! Not only the German national team wants to show its best performance against France, but also the tennis pros.
With Alexander Zverev, Yannick Hanfmann, Daniel Altmaier and Jan-Lennard Struff, four Germans will be on the courts of the Miami Masters.
It is the second 1000 tournament of the year and it got off to a brilliant start from a German perspective. As Hanfmann, Altmaier and Koepfer have all progressed, there are five Germans in round two. So far, no black, red and gold player has been eliminated in the men’s singles.
But at least one of them will be eliminated in round two. After all, two compatriots, Altmaier and Struff, will meet here
The best tennis betting providers expect a fairly close match with a slight advantage for “Struffi” (1.65 odds). Altmaier starts the match with 2.25 odds.
Although Miami does not provide the ideal top-speed conditions, the courts at the Florida facility are among the somewhat faster hardcourts. Conditions that suit the 1.93 meter tall Struff with his powerful serves and forehands.
Altmaier and Struff found completely different conditions in their only duel to date. Due to corona, their French Open match did not take place until a cooler October. The final score was 6:3, 7-6, 6:3.
The stars also played each other in the second round in the French capital. This time, however, the current form clearly favors Struff, who is also almost 30 places ahead of Altmaier in the world rankings
In Indian Wells, the 33-year-old impressed with an opening win against Borna Coric. He then had to deal directly with high-flyer Jannik Sinner.
He lost to the South Tyrolean, who only conceded his first defeat in 2024 later in the tournament, in two straight sets.
Struff had anything but an easy draw beforehand in Dubai. He faced a top 10 player in Hubert Hurkacz and played the match against the top 10 player at eye level, but ultimately lost out after three tiebreaks.
Without a single break in the match, the match almost resembled a service practice. A total of 41 aces were served.
And Daniel Altmaier? In a Head2Head on clay, I wouldn’t dare to bet on a winner – but in Miami, I’m convinced that he will lose to Struff.
He never got far in his last tournaments anyway. Since the beginning of August, he has only managed to win two matches in a row in one place twice
And the latest results don’t speak in his favor either. In Indian Wells, he was defeated by the 242nd player in the world, Lucas Pouille. At the time, it was his sixth defeat in his seventh match. The only victory was a very surprising one against Alexander Zverev.
He defeated the reigning Olympic champion in the first round of Acapulco. Zverev missed six break points and even won two more points in the match, but still lost in three sets in the end.
However, it was the only exclamation mark against more renowned competition. In Miami, he started off against Harold Mayot, who survived the qualifiers after Arthur Cazaux retired. Struff, on the other hand, is a completely different proposition compared to his French opponent.
Given the fast conditions, I’d even bet that Struff will not only win the match, but also the first round. Betano has even odds of 2.00 on this.
New customers could jump on this bet with their 20 euro free bet without a deposit, or try out the riskier option with the 2.60 for an outright 2:0 win
My Altmaier Struff tip
Altmaier’s start to 2024 has been slow. He has since slipped out of the top 50 and had a grateful opponent in Mayot at the opening round in Miami. Although he still managed to beat Struff in the cooler Paris 2020 in October, things are likely to turn out differently in hot Florida on hardcourt.
I reckon that the man from Warstein will get through his service games without any problems, but at the same time will always be dangerous when Altmaier has to serve.
He was only narrowly defeated by the top 10 player Hurkcacz recently and he also produced some strong tennis against an almost invincible Sinner.
After an extensive odds check in the top sports betting apps, I have come to the following decision.
