Manchester City – Newcastle United
The English Cup is coming up and Wembley is already within reach. Reigning champions and FA Cup winners Manchester City face Newcastle United in the quarter-finals. Find out what we can expect in our Man City – Newcastle predictions here.
Pep Guardiola’s team went head-to-head against championship rivals Liverpool on the final matchday. In a match of incredible quality, the Cityzens were able to open the scoring and took a 1-0 lead, but conceded the final goal shortly after half-time to make it 1-1. In the end, the Sky Blues should be happy with the draw, as Liverpool missed many of their big chances.
Newcastle United traveled to Chelsea FC in London on the previous matchday, where they initially put up a good fight but were pushed back more and more as the game progressed. Their goal at the end of the clash created excitement in stoppage time, but the longed-for equalizer never came.

Man City Form & Balance Check
Manchester City are in impressive form at the moment. They are unbeaten in the league since 06.12.2023 and are in the middle of a three-way battle with Liverpool and Arsenal for the championship. They are a force at home in particular and have yet to lose at home this season. They have won their three FA Cup games so far with a goal difference of 12:2 and will therefore go into the quarter-finals full of confidence
De Bruyne as a factor
Five assists from three games in the FA Cup, including four in the last match alone. Those are Kevin de Bruyne’s numbers. In Erling Haaland, of course, he also has the perfect partner in attack, but the Belgian has really come into his own again after his injury. It seems as if this break has done him good to be able to really attack again with a view to the European Championship
Man City facts & analysis
- No defeat at home
- Reigning FA Cup winners
- Draw last game in the league
Newcastle Form & Balance Check
Newcastle can’t begin to build on last year’s form so far this season. They are currently in 10th place in the league, a long way off the international places. They have won just three of their last ten games, drawn two and lost five. The FA Cup is the last straw of success that the team can still cling to. Playing away from home should not be a problem for Eddie Howe’s team, however, as they have not played at home once in the FA Cup season so far.
Fearful opponents Manchester City?
Newcastle United will not want to look back at their previous games before the game. They won their last game against Man City in January 2019, meaning they have not won a single match against the Cityzens in their last ten head-to-head meetings. But the cup has its own laws, as every schoolchild knows, and they will try to upset the reigning FA Cup winners with this mentality
Newcastle facts & analysis
- Last game lost
- Always won away in the FA Cup
- Third worst away defense in the league
Ortega will once again be in goal for Ederson in this cup game. An arrangement that the team made before the season. Depending on whether Pep Guardiola wants to rotate in this game, the recently conspicuous Doku could also be an option for Alvarez.
Newcastle will still be without the injured Trippier. Lascelles could move back into central defense for Botman
