Australian Open in Melbourne, quarter-finals, Tuesday, 23.01.2024
The world No. 4 has reached the quarter-finals of the Australian Open without dropping a set – and nobody is really surprised! While a number of top stars have their problems, Jannik Sinner is irresistible.
Now the South Tyrolean faces an opponent who has never made it into the top four at a Grand Slam. Is this one of the reasons why the odds are clearly in Italy’s favor?
That’s exactly what I want to find out in my Sinner Rublev betting tip. Both players are absolutely world class, but I believe that the younger one is currently unbeatable! For my betting recommendation of 3:0 we get odds of 2.50 from Bet365
That Jannik Sinner is one of the absolute best players in the world? That’s no longer a surprise! In 2023, however, the South Tyrolean made such a huge leap forward that now, at the first major of the year, he can really be trusted to do anything.
The finalist at the ATP Finals (where he also beat Novak Djokovic in the preliminary round) is one of the title favorites in Melbourne and won’t be bothered by the fact that Djoker and Carlos Alcaraz are considered to be slightly stronger.
In Down Under, the opponents are getting stronger from round to round, but that doesn’t bother Jannik Sinner, who is in top form. After his 6-4, 7-5, 6-3 win over Botic van de Zandschulp, he beat Jesper de Jong 6-2, 6-2, 6-2.
Many thought: Sebastian Baez might be the unpleasant opponent who would make his life a little more difficult. But far from it, Sinner unpacked a 6-0, 6-1, 6-3 win and made it through to the round of 16 at a leisurely pace
Even Karen Khachanov had no chance of somehow breaking the 22-year-old’s winning streak. Nothing came of it, the favorite moved on with a 6-4, 7-5, 6-3 and secured his place in the quarter-finals.
He had never made it this far here in Melbourne before, and Sinner obviously doesn’t want to be stopped now. He only had to concede two breaks, so his service was absolutely spot on.
Of course, it’s also interesting for you that he hasn’t had to go into a tie-break yet and has always closed out his sets (he hasn’t lost any yet anyway). Something that Andrey Rublev should also have noticed
Sinner and the Russian have met a total of six times in recent years, with the winner coming from Italy on four occasions. Not to forget: Sinner collected three of these four victories without losing a set.
Although the only direct duel at a Grand Slam in 2022 went to Rublev, it was also played on clay back then. Although both are directly behind each other in the rankings, the bookmakers have a clear favorite.
Sinner is also clearly in the lead at Betano, with the odds averaging 1.20 to 4.00. No wonder, as one of the two has always been able to win at a slow pace, while the other has a real odyssey behind him!
Andrey Rublev, the man who has always had to pack his bags in the quarter-finals at majors so far, had a much tougher path to the round of the best eight, and that’s less down to his opponents
Thiago Seyboth Wild had a turbulent first round, winning 7-5, 6-4, 3-6, 4-6, 7-6! Against Christopher Eubanks, the following 6-4, 6-4, 6-4 was almost considered a clear, commanding victory.
Rublev later produced his best performance against Sebastian Korda, when he won 6-2, 7-6, 6-4. The 26-year-old had obviously had enough of easy victories by the time the match against Alex de Minaur came around.
6-4, 6-7, 6-7, 6-3, 6-0, only at the very end did he manage to put his opponent in his place. While the two Americans were not allowed to break against him, Rublev handed out a whopping 16 breaks against de Minaur.
The impressive consistency that Jannik Sinner currently brings to the court is unfortunately not to be seen in this year’s Hong Kong champion, which is probably why the betting odds were set so clearly
My Sinner Rublev tip
Jannik Sinner and Andrey Rublev are both world-class players, that’s not up for discussion. Nevertheless, I can only agree with the bookmakers’ prediction and say: one of the two is clearly stronger right now!
Sinner is unstoppable in Melbourne, doesn’t give up any sets and doesn’t even get caught up in tiebreaks. Rublev, on the other hand, has the typical wobbles, and five-setters are not uncommon.
As a result, I have picked a somewhat riskier bet for this match. Namely that Sinner will continue to serve so brilliantly! So my tip is:
Sinner beats Rublev 3:0!
