Eintracht Frankfurt – Borussia Mönchengladbach
The winter break is just around the corner and we can expect a month without soccer in the German top flight. But during the week, the 16th matchday in the Bundesliga is still on the agenda. A real traditional duel will take place in Frankfurt’s Stadtwald. Eintracht from the Main will host the team from the Lower Rhine.
However, things did not go as planned for either team on the last matchday. The Eagles suffered a real crash landing in Leverkusen after their recent high-flying performance against Bayern. SGE had no chance against Bayer 04 and lost 3-0, causing Frankfurt to slip back down to eighth place in the table.
Meanwhile, the visitors from Mönchengladbach are three places further down the table. Last Friday, the foals also failed to catch up with the European places. VfL were held to a 2-2 draw against Bremen. Find out who will pick up important points in the last game of the year in our Frankfurt – Gladbach betting tip

Frankfurt Form & Balance Check
Eintracht won the Europa League two years ago and even reached the last 16 of the Champions League in the previous season. This season, SGE is now one level further down in the Conference League. Eintracht also reached the knockout phase there and will now face Royale Union Saint-Gilloise from Belgium in the round of 16.
In the league, meanwhile, the Hessians remain in 8th place in the table. In the previous week, however, there were no points for Frankfurt. The SGE had to deal with Bayer Leverkusen and ultimately lost 3-0. It was the sixth defeat in the last seven games for the Adler. The outlier in this series was the 5:1 against Bayern two weeks ago.
Who will replace Kolo Muani?
The Eintracht Frankfurt offense was extremely powerful last season. At the end of the Bundesliga season, the SGE had the fourth-best attacking line in the league. The Hessians scored an impressive 58 goals over the 34 match days. Randal Kolo Muani in particular stood out from the forward line with 15 goals and a further 14 assists.
A high-profile move to PSG in Ligue 1 followed in the summer, but as the transfer only took place shortly before the end of the transfer window, SGE were unable to replace the 25-year-old. The 34 goals scored so far are therefore only a logical consequence. Omar Marmoush, who was signed more for the position behind the striker, has done well in his role as Kolo Muani’s replacement so far, but will probably move one position further back in the second half of the season
Frankfurt facts & analysis
- Six defeats in the last seven competitive matches
- Eighth in the league
- Lost 0:3 in Leverkusen the previous week
Gladbach Form & Balance Check
Gladbach’s season has not yet been characterized by consistency. For coach Gerardo Seoane, it is probably surprising week after week what performance he gets from his team. As a result, Borussia are only 11th in the table. Four wins have been offset by five draws and six defeats.
So it was only logical that Borussia had to follow up a win and a draw with a draw in the previous week. The foals then drew 2-2 against Werder Bremen on Friday. The lack of consistency was already a major problem for Gladbach in the previous season. Back then, the Borussians never won two games in a row throughout the season
Turnaround at Borussia
And VfL have never managed to win two Bundesliga games in a row this season either. However, many fans already knew before the start of the season that it could be a bit difficult for Borussia this season. This is because there was a major shake-up in the Lower Rhine squad in the summer. Seven players left Gladbach in the summer.
And four of these seven departures were absolute regulars for the foals. Jonas Hofmann, Marcus Thuram, Ramy Bensebaini and Lars Stindl made a total of 118 Bundesliga appearances for Borussia in the pre-season. Gladbach’s new signings will therefore find it difficult to compensate for the quality of the departures
Gladbach facts & analysis
- Place eleven in the Bundesliga
- First away win
- Played 2:2 against Bremen the previous week
Predicted line-up – last update on December 19, 2023
Farès Chaïbi, who played up front in Leverkusen, will probably play behind the front line again on Wednesday. Omar Marmoush will return from his yellow card suspension. Robin Koch, on the other hand, had to be substituted with an injury in Leverkusen and will miss SGE on Wednesday.
We expect Gladbach to adopt a 3-5-2 formation again, with Robin Hack setting up both Reitz goals last Friday and presumably securing his return to the starting eleven up front. Alongside him, Alassane Pléa will once again be on the hunt for goals
