Bayern Munich – Union Berlin
On Wednesday, two German teams competed in the Champions League and did not manage more than a draw in their respective games. On Saturday afternoon, the two teams will go head-to-head in the Bundesliga. In the table, however, only one team is currently back on course for the top flight. Find out who will prevail in this unequal duel in our Bayern – Union betting tip.
Bayern’s 17-game winning streak in the group stage of the top flight came to an end on Wednesday with a 0-0 draw against Copenhagen. In the league, however, the record champions have won six games in a row.
The visitors from Köpenick, on the other hand, have been waiting for a win in the league since matchday 3. Union are also still waiting for their first three-pointer in the Champions League. Despite being outnumbered for a long time, the Irons were once again held to a 1-1 draw against Braga on Wednesday

Bayern Form & Balance Check
Before the international break, Bayern’s dominance was again overwhelming, apart from the debacle in the DFB Cup against Saarbrücken. However, FCB’s first two games after the break were not quite as convincing. On Wednesday, the German record champions conceded points in the group stage of the top flight for the first time since December 1, 2020.
And the visit to 1. FC Köln did not look as convincing as desired on paper either. In the end, however, it was a 1:0 win that was never really in danger. FCB remain unbeaten in the league and are two points behind league leaders Leverkusen
Bayern are reluctant to change players
The FC Bayern squad is currently very thin on the ground. Only a few positions are filled with multiple players. Especially in defense, the Munich team usually only has a few players available. Coach Thomas Tuchel has often complained about this situation recently. It was therefore all the more surprising that the 50-year-old did not make a single change against Cologne.
The last time Bayern played without making a change in the Bundesliga was back in 2010. Back then, Louis van Gaal was still coach at the record champions. And coach Tuchel does not particularly like making changes away from the Cologne game either. FCB have only made 49 substitutions in the Bundesliga season so far, the fewest in the league.
Bayern facts & analysis
- 2nd place in the Bundesliga
- Best offense in the Bundesliga
- Won 1:0 in Cologne the previous week
Union Form & Balance Check
Union Berlin’s winless streak just won’t end. Their Champions League exit was sealed even before the international break. After the draw against Sporting Braga on Wednesday, everything now points to the fact that a place in the Europa League is almost out of the question.
In the league, relegation to Bundesliga 2 no longer seems impossible either. After twelve games, 1. FC Union is in second-last place and has only collected seven points so far. In the previous week, the Ironmen at least ended their nine-game losing streak with a 1-1 draw against Augsburg
Luck has run out?
In recent years, luck has seemed to have been with Union Berlin in many games. A look at last season underlines this impression. Based on expected points, Union would only have finished 13th in the Bundesliga last season. The Irons scored almost 20 points more than expected. Union managed to perform far beyond their capabilities, particularly in the final stages.
With a value of 35.07, Union had the weakest xG value in the entire league, while FCU actually scored 51 goals. This season, however, luck seems to have turned against the Köpenickers. Union have scored 3.25 goals less and conceded 6.62 goals more than expected. FCU have also scored 6.05 points fewer than the statistics suggest. The last two figures are the worst in the league
Union facts & analysis
- In penultimate place in the Bundesliga table
- 16 competitive matches in a row without a win
- Played 1:1 against Augsburg in the previous week
Predicted line-up – last update on November 30, 2023
At Bayern, we logically expect the 4-2-3-1 again. Jamal Musiala and Matthijs de Ligt could be back in the Munich squad, but will probably not start. After Leon Goretzka again started in central defense against Copenhagen, the 28-year-old will now play in central midfield again.
Union played with a 4-1-4-1 in Braga, but Bjelica is likely to rotate a little in Munich and the Berliners could line up in a back three. After Kevin Behrens failed to convince in the center of attack recently, Mikkel Kaufmann could also make his starting debut for the Iron
