Bayer Leverkusen – Union Berlin
This weekend, the Bundesliga once again has three games on Sunday due to international competitions. At 3:30 p.m., two teams that were active in Europe during the week will face each other. While the hosts from Leverkusen won against Qarabağ Ağdam in the Europa League in Azerbaijan, Union secured a draw against Napoli in the Champions League.
In the league, however, this clash is not a top match. Although the Werkself have had an excellent start to the season and lead the table in the top flight, the visitors from Köpenick have by no means had a good start to the season.
Union have lost their last eight Bundesliga games and plummeted to 16th place. FCU also had no chance against Frankfurt the previous week, losing 3-0, while Werkself won again the previous week and have therefore been without a point in the Bundesliga for almost two months. Exequiel Palacios and Granit Xhaka are the absolute mainstays in the center under coach Xabi Alonso and deliver more than stable performances week in, week out. However, the Argentinian world champion was recently absent from the Werkself’s trip to Azerbaijan with an injury. However, Palacios is likely to be back in the line-up against the Irons

Prior to that, the 57-year-old had only worked in his home country and had even won the championship twice and the cup once with FC Basel. With FCU, the coach then experienced an incredible rise that had rarely been seen before.
However, the Swiss is coming under increasing pressure in Köpenick. Particularly in the last three Bundesliga appearances against Stuttgart, Bremen and Frankfurt, his team appeared unimaginative and anemic. Several media outlets are already reporting that the clash with Leverkusen on Sunday could be Urs Fischer’s last game on the Union touchline. Union looked much more stable against Napoli. There, Paul Jaeckel started from the beginning. We therefore also expect the 25-year-old to be in the starting line-up on Sunday. Rani Kedira is still missing for FCU with a suspension
