RB Leipzig – Werder Bremen

The last match on the 32nd matchday of the Bundesliga takes place in the capital of Saxony. On Sunday at 17:30 RB Leipzig will then receive SV Werder Bremen. The hosts are well on their way back to the Champions League. The 1-0 win the previous week against their direct rivals from Freiburg saw RB overtake not only SCF but also Union Berlin to climb to third place in the table. In addition to the strong performances in the Bundesliga, the Saxons also managed to reach the final of the DFB Cup once again.

About a decade ago, there were also regular European nights in the premier league and hot cup fights at the Weser. This season, however, Werder fans are happy to have nothing to do with the relegation battle. The Bremen team currently occupies twelfth place in the table and has a seven-point lead over the relegation zone with three match days to go. However, the lack of excitement among SVW’s players has also led to Bremen winning just one of their last nine Bundesliga games.

That’s a statistic RB coach Marco Rose probably likes to hear. The Leipzig native has never lost to Werder as a Bundesliga coach and has even won four of his five duels with the northern Germans. Find out whether Rose will manage the fifth win on Sunday in our Leipzig vs. Bremen tip.

Leipzig form & balance check

RB Leipzig got off to a rather underwhelming start this season under their old coach Domenico Tedesco and experienced a number of other setbacks as well. However, RasenBallsport has been getting into better and better form under Marco Rose recently and is currently without defeat for three competitive games.

Leipzig reached the cup final for the third time in a row 1.5 weeks ago, and the upward trend in the Bundesliga continues as well. The Saxons jumped to third place in the table the previous week with a 1-0 win at Freiburg. With a win against Bremen, Leipzig will be looking to take another important step towards the top flight this weekend.

Little effectiveness

Leipzig’s upward trend in recent weeks has been impressive. However, RB has been anything but effective with its chances in recent games. In the last seven games, RB Leipzig gave up a whopping 120 shots on goal. However, it also shows that the team should have scored twelve goals instead of just six, according to xGoals.

RasenBallsport’s good form in the Bundesliga therefore also owes a lot to its stable defense. The Saxons have conceded just four goals in their last five games and have even played to nil on three occasions in that period.

Leipzig facts & analysis
  • First two home defeats in the Bundesliga.
  • Third best offense in the league
  • Actual DFB Cup winner

Bremen form & balance check

Werder Bremen is back in the top flight after a year in the 2. Bundesliga and inspires with an offensive style of play that captivates supporters. Currently, the team from the Weser is in twelfth place in the table and has a seven-point lead over the relegation places.

However, disillusionment is slowly spreading among Bremen fans, as coach Ole Werner’s team no longer has much to win or lose. Werder have won just one of their last nine Bundesliga games, conceding a narrow 2-1 defeat to Bayern the previous week.

Ducksch on the move?

The man of the moment at the Weser is currently Marvin Ducksch. The 29-year-old scored a strong four goals in the last three Bundesliga games. The Bremen number 7 thus has a total of twelve goals and six assists over the course of the season.

These performances have recently aroused a lot of desire. A summer move to Borussia Dortmund was recently rumored in the press. Ducksch was born in Dortmund and played for BVB as a youth player. The striker once scored 36 goals in 84 appearances for Borussia’s second team.

Bremen facts & analysis
  • In twelfth place in the Bundesliga standings.
  • First five draws this season
  • Ducksch and Füllkrug involved in 65% of all Werder goals

Predicted lineup – last update on May 13, 2023

We expectLeipzig to very again in a 4-4-2, with Timo Werner and Christopher Nkunku again forming the Saxons’ double top line on Sunday. Except for the long-term injured Péter Gulácsi, Leipzig will have all players available against Bremen.

Bremen will again operate in the usual 3-5-2 in Leipzig. Top scorer Füllkrug will probably not be involved again on Sunday. Therefore, we expect Philipp and Duksch in the double top again.
