Newcastle United – Manchester United
The coming weekend is once again packed with action from Europe’s top leagues. Of course, football from the English Premier League cannot be missing. On Sunday, among other things, a match of the 29th matchday is on the schedule. The Magpies from Newcastle and the Red Devils from Manchester United face each other. Both teams are still fighting for a place in the international competition and our Newcastle – Man United tip will tell you whether the favourites from Manchester will prevail.
A look at the table shows that both clubs can be quite satisfied with this season. The men from Newcastle are currently in a strong fifth place and the men of coach Eddie Howe have won the last two games. Their upcoming opponents from Manchester are still in third place and coach Eik ten Hag’s side will do everything they can in their remaining games to keep third place ahead of Spurs.

Newcastle Form & Balance Check
When we talk about surprises in the Premier League, there is simply no getting around the Magpies from Newcastle. At the end of the first half of last season, Newcastle were in 19th place and under manager Eddie Howe, the club from the north-east of the island has made an impressive development. Last season, they finished eleventh and this year, the men from St. James Park have been at the top of the league almost since the beginning.
With 47 points, they are well on their way to Europe. They are already five points ahead of Liverpool FC and their form has been improving recently. On the last matchday, they won 2:1 against Nottingham Forrest.
Defence is the trump card
One of the main reasons why Newcastle are really doing so well this season is their defence. With just 19 goals conceded, Nick Pope & Co. have the best defence in the entire Premier League. Thanks to the tall centre-backs Botman, Schär and Burn, there is hardly any chance of getting through on crosses and stationary balls.
While the defence is usually very secure, Newcastle have a real goalscorer in their own ranks in the form of the Swede Isak. The former Dortmund player is getting better and better after his injury and has scored six goals in ten matches.
Newcastle facts & analysis
– Best defence in the league.
– 2 wins in a row
– Last win 2-1 at Nottingham
Man United form & balance check
The Red Devils from Manchester are currently on the verge of achieving their minimum goal. The team of coach Erik ten Hag will have nothing to do with the championship, rather it is about defending the third place. Before the two-week break, however, the performances were not up to scratch. Above all, the game at Anfield Road still has that little bit of an effect.
At the big rival from Liverpool there was a historic 0:7 defeat. The Red Devils also remained without a win in their first game after this defeat. Against the bottom team from Southampton, United could not get beyond a 0-0 draw. With a view to the upcoming match against Newcastle, they will have to create more scoring opportunities again.
Title in the Europa League?
With the English League Cup title against Newcastle United a few weeks ago, coach ten Hag brought the first trophy in years to Old Trafford. In terms of the championship, there is nothing to be gained this season, however, the Red Devils continue to dance on two high tides. A few days ago they played in the quarter-finals of the FA Cup against Fulham, where United won 3:1.
United are also on course in the Europa League. Thanks to two convincing victories over Betis Sevilla, the Red Devils are in the quarter-finals. They will now face the Andalusians from Sevilla in the quarter finals.
Man United facts & analysis
– Currently in 3rd place.
– Lost two league games in a row
– Scoreless twice in a row in the league
Predicted line-up – last update on 1 April 2023
The hosts from Newcastle will go into Sunday’s game in their usual 4-3-3. Coach Eddie Howe is not likely to make any major changes and old acquaintances are expected to do the job, especially in attack. Isak, in particular, is likely to start with plenty of confidence after his goal in the last game against Nottingham. There will be no big surprises.
United will have to replace the suspended Casemiro. We assume that ten Hag will opt for the Scotsman McTominay. Otherwise, everything remains the same. Rashford comes in on the left, Antony on the right and Weghorst is expected to do the job in the centre of attack.
