Leipzig Form & Balance Check
For several years now, RB Leipzig has been on the German football map. Although the club is far from being loved by all football fans, it has nevertheless enjoyed various successes. At the latest, RB finally established itself in German football when it reached the Champions League semi-finals in 2020 and won the DFB Cup last year.
Leipzig is playing very well again this season. RasenBallsport is in the Champions League last 16 and also in the last 16 of the DFB Cup. However, the start of the season in the league was not so exhilarating. After only six points from the first five games, coach Domenico Tedesco had to take his hat off. However, things are going much better under new coach Marco Rose. Leipzig recently went eight games unbeaten in the Bundesliga and won the last four games in a row. In the last game before the winter break, Leipzig won 2-1 against Werder at the Weserstadion in Bremen.
Offensive power football
The philosophy of RB Leipzig is clear. The team’s focus is on the offensive. Leipzig relies on fast attacks and thus creates many scoring chances. RB fired a total of 221 shots on goal in the first 15 games. Only the opponents from Munich have more shots on goal. However, the players from Leipzig often aim too accurately. The red bulls hit the aluminium nine times in the first half of the season, more than any other team in the Bundesliga.
The many chances they have created have also resulted in many goals so far. RB has scored 30 times in the Bundesliga so far. Only Bayern and Frankfurt have scored more often. Leipzig is also the top scorer in the league. Christopher Nkunku has scored 12 times in the first 15 games. However, the French international will be out for a few more weeks with a knee injury.
Leipzig facts & analysis
– Four Bundesliga wins in a row
– The third best offence in the league
– Reigning DFB Cup winners
Bayern Form & Balance Check
In the 2011/2012 season, Borussia Dortmund won their second consecutive championship. Since then, ten more seasons were played and the German champion was Bayern Munich every year. During this period, the FCB also won two Champion’s League titles. Bayern have dominated German football for decades and are not about to change that any time soon.
This season, too, there is no getting past the Bavarians. They have only lost one match in the Bundesliga so far and are still unbeaten in the Champions League and the DFB Cup. In an interlude of weakness, Bayern picked up only one win from six Bundesliga games and slipped to third place in the table. However, the record champions won the last six league games before the winter break. On matchday 13, Bayern then ousted Union Berlin from first place in the table and is now back at the top of the table.
Complete dominance
FC Bayern is once again leading virtually all statistics in the Bundesliga so far. For one thing, the record champions have scored the most goals in the league. The ball has found its way into the net of Bayern’s opponents 49 times so far. Eintracht Frankfurt, who have the second-best offence in the league, scored a whole 17 goals less. The complete offensive dominance is also expressed in other statistics, as the record champions also have the best passing rate, the most possession and the most duels won.
On the other hand, the defence also dominates the entire Bundesliga. Bayern has conceded only 13 goals so far. Fewer than any other team. Bayern even conceded no goals six times, four of which were scored by captain Manuel Neuer. However, the national goalkeeper will be out injured for the entire second half of the season. Gladbach keeper Yann Sommer was signed as a replacement. However, it is questionable whether he will play against Leipzig.
Bayern facts & analysis
– Only one defeat in the league.
– Best offence and defence
– 32-time German champion
Predicted lineup – last update on 19 January 2023
Leipzig will again go with a 4-4-2, with the central midfielders slightly more withdrawn. The absences of Nkunku and Gulácsi hurt the team especially. Otherwise, however, all players are available to RB. Timo Werner is also fit again after missing the World Cup.
Julian Nagelsmann will again send FC Bayern onto the field in a 4-2-3-1. Musiala will be under special observation after his strong World Cup. In defence, however, the record champions will be missing Manuel Neuer, Lucas Hernández and Noussair Mazraoui and in attack Sadio Mané will not be available. New signing Yann Sommer is unlikely to be in the starting eleven yet.
