Bochum Form & Balance Check
VfL Bochum are deep in the relegation battle this season. The team’s only goal is not to be in a relegation place at the end of the season. The team of coach Thomas Letsch did not have much to laugh about the last two match days. A fortnight ago they lost 4:0 at VfL Wolfsburg and on the last matchday they went down 3:0 in Dortmund. Bochum are currently second from last in the table with just seven points from 13 matches.
Home strength as the key to staying in the league
The faces of Bochum at home and away could not be more different. While they have yet to pick up a single point away from home, they are unbeaten in three games at home in the Ruhrstadion. Since coach Thomas Letsch has been at the helm, VfL have picked up seven points from three games.
Striker Philipp Hofmann has also played a big part in this. The newcomer from Karlsruhe scored once in each of the last two home games. The Bochum defence, however, seems anything but solid at the moment. VfL has conceded the most goals in the entire Bundesliga. Even the usually so secure keeper Manuel Riemann has been making more and more mistakes lately.
Bochum facts & analysis
– Three games in a row not lost at home.
– The worst defence in the league
– Just one point off the bottom of the table
Gladbach form & balance check
Borussia Mönchengladbach had a really good start to the season. Daniel Farke’s team lost only one match in the first seven matchdays. However, Borussia did not confirm this form in the last games. The Foals won only one of their last five competitive matches. In the cup, Borussia was even eliminated by the second-division team SV Darmstadt. On the last matchday, however, Borussia landed a liberation blow and won 3:1 against VfB Stuttgart.
Two Frenchmen cast a spell on Borussia
Daniel Farke has managed to revitalise Borussia’s attack. Compared to the pre-season, Borussia have five more goals on their account. Especially the two Frenchmen Marcus Thuram and Alassane Pléa deliver very good performances. While Thuram is Borussia’s top scorer with nine goals, Alassane Pléa has the most assists in the entire Bundesliga with seven.
Borussia’s problem child, however, is the defence. Gladbach has failed to keep a clean sheet in the last seven competitive games. In addition, important players are missing from Borussia’s defence. With Ko Itakura and Nico Elvedi, two important pillars of the Foals’ back four are missing. In addition, regular keeper Yann Sommer is not available due to injury.
Gladbach facts & analysis
– Gladbach have yet to win a game away from home this season.
– Haven’t won by nil in seven games
– Gladbach has the fourth best offense in the league
Predicted lineup – last update on November 7, 2022
VfL Bochum are expected to field a 4-3-3 system again. Thomas Letsch has no new injuries or suspensions to complain about. With Asano, Goralski, Heintz, Masovic and Grave, the same players are missing as in the game against Dortmund.
Borussia from Gladbach will go into the match with a 4-2-3-1. Hofmann and Pléa are expected to support Thuram up front. Tony Jantschke had to be substituted against Stuttgart due to injury, but is expected to be available again for the Foals against Bochum. Sommer, Elvedi, Itakura, Neuhaus and Wolf will be absent.
