Chelsea FC vs. Leicester City
The Premier League is taking giant steps towards its finale next weekend. The fans can already look forward to one or two catch-up games on Thursday evening, before it’s all up for grabs on Saturday. Among others, the Blues from London and the Foxes from Leicester will play at 21:00. Even if it is rather unlikely that the Blues will lose the qualification for the top division, you always have to expect everything in the Premier League. What we think about the upcoming match, you can read in our Chelsea – Leicester tip.
For Chelsea FC, it’s all about no titles this season. The Blues have no chance of winning the title in the domestic Premier League, nor in the top flight, where they were eliminated by Real in the quarter-finals. In the FA Cup, too, Thomas Tuchel’s team was defeated by Liverpool on penalties. The Blues are in third place in the table and the 70 points should still be enough to reach the top flight. For the upcoming opponents from Leicester, on the other hand, nothing is at stake. Currently, the Foxes are in ninth place with 48 points.

Chelsea form & balance check
What ended in a top flight title last season seems to be going nowhere this season. The final matches of coach Thomas Tuchel’s team are usually extremely close and in the end it was always the others who rejoiced. This was also the case last weekend, when the FA Cup final against Liverpool FC was on the agenda. The score against the Reds was 0-0 after 90 minutes and 120 minutes, so they had to go to penalties again and, as in the League Cup, they lost out. Chelsea are thus without a title this season.
What will happen next summer?
A very exciting transfer window awaits the Blues this summer. Even though the sale of the club has now gone through, there are unlikely to be too many big transfers at the Bridge. Unless there are buyers for players like Lukaku, Pulisic & Co. Above all, “Big Rom” still does not seem to have arrived in London and the 113 million euros transfer fee has not yet paid off. A possible transfer of Timo Werner is also being discussed from time to time. It will also be exciting to see how Tuchel will compensate for the departures of Rüdiger and Christensen.
Chelsea facts & analysis
– 3rd place in the Premier League, 70 points.
– Last win 3:0 against Leeds
– CL qualification is the target
Leicester form & balance check
What has always been a certainty in recent years has not even come close to being achieved this season. The Foxes from Leicester are not represented internationally next year. Coach Brendan Rodgers’ team has an extreme amount of quality in their own ranks, but for reasons that have been inexplicable so far, the Foxes have been able to put it on the pitch far too rarely. However, in the last two games, a small rise in form was noticeable. Against the two basement children from Norwich and Watford FC, there were two more than commanding victories. The successes come just in time for the big game against Chelsea.
Turnaround in the summer?
One or two players at the Foxes have aspirations of playing internationally every year. Since that will not be the case for Leicester in the coming season, there are likely to be one or two departures. In particular, a certain Youri Tielemanns, who has not been one of the most consistent players this season either, will be listening to offers from other teams. It will be important that Leicester can keep the core of the squad together and not lose so much quality.
Leicester facts & analysis
– 9th place in the Premier League, 48 points.
– Last win 5:1 against Watford
– 2 wins in a row
Predicted line-up – last update on 17 May 2022
The Blues from London will be sent out on the pitch with their usual 3-4-1-2. Coach Tuchel will once again have Havertz and Lukaku up front. However, it is also possible that Havertz will play next to Mount on the ten. Rüdiger will again play the right part in the three-man backline. Upcoming opponents Leicester will rely on a 4-1-4-1, with Vardy expected to provide the goals as he did in the 5-1 defeat to Watford.
