FSV Mainz vs. Eintracht Frankfurt
The 34th and thus last matchday of the 2021/22 Bundesliga season is just around the corner and one of the supposedly boring games, in which virtually nothing is at stake, will take place on Saturday at the Mewe Arena in Mainz. There, FSV, who have been very strong at home this season, will welcome Eintracht from Frankfurt. Kick-off is at 15:30, the same time as all the other games on the day.
The hosts (45 points) will finish ahead of Eintracht (41) in the final table of the current season in any case, which was last the case in the 2015/16 season. However, this is not only due to Eintracht’s poor season, but also to the more than solid season of Mainz, who never had anything to do with relegation this year right from the start. Since club legend Bo Svensson took over as coach in January 2021, things have really only gone uphill for the Rheinhessen side.
However, he started his tenure with a 2-0 home defeat against Eintracht Frankfurt. Whether we think the SGE will now ruin his end of season and what we think about the last game of the season between these two clubs is revealed in our Mainz vs Frankfurt tip.

Mainz Form & Balance Check
For FSV Mainz 05, a season completely free of relegation worries comes to an end next Saturday. Bo Svensson’s team hovered between fourth and eleventh place throughout the season and had absolutely nothing to do with the bottom third of the table. If someone had said that before Matchday 1, everyone in Mainz would certainly have signed it. Nevertheless, the mood could be a little better due to the rather disappointing last few weeks. One had the feeling that the players had lost a bit of their will since the stated goal of the season – to stay in the league – was more or less secured.
With 3 wins into the summer break?
This brings to mind, for example, the away defeats in Augsburg (1:2), Cologne (2:3) and especially the disastrous 0:5 in Wolfsburg. After only one win from eight games, FSV recently celebrated two victories in a row (3:1 vs. Bayern, 2:1 at Hertha). The Rheinhessen side have not yet won three in a row this Bundesliga season.
Despite the best performance since the 15/16 season, planning for the new year is already in full swing. The permanent signing of loan player Dominik Kohr is on the home straight. In addition, FSV have already bagged the transfer-free signings of Eintracht players Danny da Costa and Aymen Barkok, who will play against their new employers for the last time for the time being on Saturday.

Frankfurt form & balance check
For the guests from Frankfurt, the 2021/22 Bundesliga season has been over for quite some time. After a bearish end-of-year spurt (six wins from seven games), the Eagles have lost five of their first seven Bundesliga games in 2022 and won just one. Their chances of finishing in the top six were more or less over, so the focus has since turned entirely to the Europa League, where the SGE made it all the way to the final after spectacular encounters with FC Barcelona and West Ham United.
Full focus on Sevilla
The final against Glasgow Rangers, which will be played at the stadium of six-time title winners Sevilla FC, is already scheduled for next Wednesday (18 May). In the last Bundesliga match of the season, the SGE will therefore not take any more risks and, as in the last few weeks, will probably spare some regulars. In the league, the Adler are now winless for seven games (four draws, three defeats). For coach Oliver Glasner, this is the longest winless streak of his Bundesliga career. In the last three Bundesliga away games, Frankfurt even failed to score a goal of their own (0-0 in Leipzig, 0-2 at Union and 0-2 in Leverkusen) – the longest away slump in five years.
Frankfurt facts & analysis
– 41 points from 33 games.
– Last played 1:1 against Gladbach
– Winless for 7 league games
– No goal scored in last 3 away games
Predicted line-up – last updated 12 May 2022
The hosts will only have to do without Burgzorg (heart muscle inflammation). Jeremieh St. Juste has been back in the squad twice recently without an appearance and is unlikely to feature again following his announced move to Sporting Lisbon. Brosinski will start on the right wing for Widmer. This was announced at the pre-match press conference. Otherwise, Barreiro and Stöger are further options for the midfield.
The SGE will presumably have a few players spared again for the important Europa League final. In the attack we expect Pacienca to replace Borre again. Lindström had to take a break recently due to injury, so nothing will be risked here in order to keep an appearance in the EL final as likely as possible. Missing due to injury are Hinteregger and Ramaj.
🥹 That can only give you goosebumps!
What a journey we have had so far – full of heart racing, euphoria and passion 🖤🦅
