Eintracht Frankfurt vs. TSG Hoffenheim
This weekend’s Bundesliga clash pits two European Cup contenders who have weakened considerably in the league in recent weeks. Eintracht Frankfurt has been waiting for a win for four league games, TSG 1899 Hoffenheim for five. Kick-off in the direct duel is at 15:30 on Saturday.
While Eintracht, seven points behind seventh place (a possible European Cup place), can no longer be counted among the contenders, TSG has lost its good starting position from the first half of the season, but is currently only one point off seventh place. Find out who we think can make a step towards Europe this weekend and what other predictions we have for this game in our Frankfurt vs Hoffenheim tip.

Frankfurt Form & Balance Check
With 0:2 the Eintracht lost at Union Berlin last weekend. It was, after the home defeat against SC Freiburg (1:2), the second defeat in a row. Before that, the Eagles had shared the points with two nil draws both in Leipzig (0:0) and against Greuther Fürth (0:0). All in all, the Hessians are playing a Bundesliga second half of the season below their level. They have only won three games in 13 matches. In the second-round table, they occupy fourteenth place with 12 points. Only the relegation candidates from Fürth, Stuttgart, Bielefeld and Berlin (Hertha) collected fewer points than Frankfurt in 2022.
Full focus on the Europa League
In contrast, the SGE presented itself from its best side in the Europa League. To the surprise of many, the Eagles knocked resurgent FC Barcelona out of the competition after a 1-1 first leg draw and a 3-2 win at Camp Nou. As a result, one or two regular players got a well-deserved rest against both Freiburg and Union.
This procedure can also be expected in the coming weeks. By winning the Europa League, Frankfurt would qualify for the Champions League next season. This scenario currently seems much more likely than the Hessians gaining both seven points on Cologne and six points on Hoffenheim in the Bundesliga with four games to go.
Frankfurt facts & analysis
– 2 Bundesliga defeats in a row
– 4 league games in a row not won
– scored only 1 goal in last 4 league games
Hoffenheim form & balance check
In mid-March, TSG still occupied a Champions League spot in fourth place. After four wins in a row, Hoffenheim wrestled a 1-1 draw away from FC Bayern. Actually, a result against the record champions that is easy to live with. However, the TSG slipped to sixth place as a result of the draw and has not been able to get off the ground since. All in all, Sebastian Hoeneß’ team has been waiting for a win for five matchdays now. During this period, Hoffenheim lost 3-0 at Hertha Berlin, among others, and last weekend they drew 0-0 at home to Greuther Fürth.
Tough remaining programme
The TSG’s remaining programme in the fight for Europe is a tough one. After the Frankfurt game, Hoffenheim face Freiburg and Leverkusen, two teams that are both above them in the table and need every point to qualify for the Champions League. On the last matchday, they go to Gladbach to close out the season. The Foals, however, are a team from the dismal Bundesliga mid-table, competing neither for class preservation nor for European Cup places.
Hoffenheim facts & analysis
– 5 league games in a row not won.
– scored only 1 goal in last 4 league matches
– Lost two away games in a row with 0:3
Predicted line-up – last updated 21 April 2022
After coach Oliver Glasner had already given some of Frankfurt’s key players a breather against Union Berlin after the exhausting Europa League match against Barca, he is likely to field his best eleven again against Hoffenheim. Only Djibril Sow is likely to be spared due to persistent knee problems. His place will probably once again be taken by captain Sebastian Rode.
The TSG, on the other hand, will have to do without several key players in Frankfurt. While captain Benjamin Hübner and Florian Grillitsch will miss the away game due to injury, Pavel Kaderabek and Christoph Baumgartner will miss the weekend due to yellow suspension.
