Tennis Tips Today – Matches Today 21.04.
There is not much time left for the best tennis players to perfect their form for the French Open 2022. Before it starts in just over a month, various tournaments are taking place across Europe.
The competitions in Barcelona (ATP) and Stuttgart (WTA) are particularly in focus. Several top stars, various local heroes: There are many favourites for the two trophies.
In Barcelona, the tournament is played under the open sky, which has already brought the participants one or two rain breaks. For many, Carlos Alcaraz and Stefanos Tsitsipas are the first contenders for victory.
A few thousand kilometres away, in Stuttgart, the popular Porsche Tennis Grand Prix is on the agenda. Nine of the top ten players are competing here, and the spectators will be in for a treat.
Tennis Tips Today – 21.04.2022 Preview
The Porsche Arena in Stuttgart is the venue for the women’s world elite these days. Ons Jabeur is among the top stars, meeting Daria Kasatkina in her round of 16 match. Will she be able to confirm the bookmakers’ role as favourite?
From the German point of view, hopes are not only pinned on Angelique Kerber, as a number of outsiders have already made a big impression here in the Porsche Arena. If Tamara Korpatsch manages to do that against Emma Raducanu, it would be a big surprise!
With Bianca Andreescu, a former top player returns to the big stage. Her debut in Stuttgart was a success, but now she faces a much tougher opponent in Aryna Sabalenka. Too difficult?
Barcelona is also played on clay, which is Diego Schwartzman’s favourite surface. The diminutive Argentine will have to fight off Lorenzo Musetti, but the bookmakers are putting all their faith in him.
The experts have Casper Ruud at the top of their lists for the title. Actually, Emil Ruusuvuori should not be an opponent, but since the Finn is in a really good mood, caution is still advised.

Tennis tips today 21.04.: Ons Jabeur – Daria Kasatkina (14:00)
Ons Jabeur has a clear goal for 2022: she wants to stay consistently in the Top 10. The Tunisian reached the Charleston final after unsuccessful tournaments in Indian Wells and Miami, but lost it to Belinda Bencic.
She has set her sights high for Stuttgart and is one of the favourites. Her opening match almost went wrong, but in the end she won 4-6, 6-2, 6-3 against Marketa Vondrousova.
Now she faces Daria Kasatkina for the fifth time. The head-to-head is 2-2, however Jabeur 2021 has equalised with two wins. The Russian came to a 6-4, 6-2 against Cori Gauff in her 1st round match.
Kasatkina’s last months were not really successful, she did not win more than two matches. With odds of 3,20 to 1,30 she is clearly behind Jabeur at the bookmakers.
Our Expert Tip: Win Jabeur
Tennis tips today 21.04: Tamara Korpatsch vs Emma Raducanu (18:30)
A round of 16 match on home Centre Court, Thursday will be a very special one for Tamara Korpatsch. In the qualifiers she managed to beat Mandy Minella, but lost to Storm Sanders.
In her 1st round match, she came back strong against Camilla Giorgi, winning 3-6, 7-6, 6-1. With every rally, the 26-year-old got stronger. Korpatsch has reached the final of the last two ITF tournaments and won the title once.
Nevertheless, she is clearly in the underdog role against Emma Raducanu. The Briton had to take quite a toll on her sensational victory at the US Open and has not been able to match her form since.
She also disappointed in Indian Wells and Miami with early eliminations. But she started very strong in Stuttgart, beating Storm Sanders 6-1, 6-2. She was able to outclass the player Korpatsch had lost to.
Our Expert Tip: Win Raducanu
Tennis tips today 21.04: Bianca Andreescu – Aryna Sabalenka (14:00)
The former world number 4 wants to get back to her old strength! Bianca Andreescu is back on the tour after a six-month break and wants to surprise right away at the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix.
At her premiere in Stuttgart, she put on a real show of strength in the 1st round, winning 7-6, 6-7, 6-2 against Alison Riske. She only managed to take five of 17 break chances, so she still has to improve here.
Five years ago Andreescu lost her only duel so far against Aryna Sabalenka, now she wants to equalise. The world number 4 lost the Stuttgart final to Ashleigh Barty a year ago, but is again one of the favourites in 2022.
The fact that the Belarusian has only won one match in her last three tournaments does not exactly speak for her form. nevertheless, she is ahead with odds of 1.40 to 2.80 with the bookmakers.
Our expert tip: Over 2.5 sets
Tennis tips today 21.04: Diego Schwartzman – Lorenzo Musetti (11:00 am)
Can Diego Schwartzman get into the fight for the title in Barcelona? The Argentine has been to the quarter-finals before in 2021, narrowly losing out. His opening 6-2, 6-2 win over Mackenzie McDonald was extremely convincing.
Schwartzman is by no means in a bad mood; in Monaco he had defeated Khachanov, Fucsovics and Musetti. He also sold himself dearly against the eventual champion Stefanos Tsitsipas, losing narrowly in three sets.
Now, after a few days’ break, he will meet Lorenzo Musetti again and could win the second match in the third duel. The Italian has already played two very long matches in Barcelona.
He won against Sebastian Baez 7-5, 7-5, his victory against Daniel Evans was similarly close at 6-4, 7-6. Musetti is known for tiebreaks, against Schwartzman he is 2.50 to 1.50 in the chasing pack.
Our Expert Tip: Over 21.5 Games
Tennis tips today 21.04: Emil Ruusuvuori – Casper Ruud (14:30)
Can Casper Ruud be the shining winner in Barcelona? The Norwegian, a proven specialist on clay, disappointed in Monte Carlo with an early exit against Grigor Dimitrov.
In Barcelona, he started with a commanding 6-3, 6-2 win over Brandon Nakashima, and this form must now be maintained. The world No. 7 first met his current opponent Emil Ruusuvuori at the 2020 US Open.
The Finn was forced to retire at 0-2, now he goes into the match with odds of 5.00 to 1.15, making him the clear underdog. Ruusuvuori has already dismantled Feliciano Lopez and Alexander Bublik in Barcelona, so don’t underestimate him!
In Miami as well as in Monte Carlo he cut a good figure against Jannik Sinner despite two defeats. In his debut in Catalonia, he has not given up a single break chance in two matches, and Ruud should have noticed that too.
Our Expert Tip: 2:0 Ruud
