FC Augsburg vs. Hertha BSC
The 30th matchday of the Bundesliga holds a real relegation thriller for us – the fourteenth FC Augsburg receives the penultimate Hertha BSC. Kick-off is at the WWK Arena in Augsburg on Saturday at 15:30.
For the relegation-threatened capital club Hertha BSC, the weeks of truth finally begin. After the away game in Augsburg, the Berliners will host fifteenth-placed VfB Stuttgart, before travelling to sixteenth-placed Bielefeld a week later on matchday 32. If the Old Lady fails to pick up at least (!) four points from these three encounters with the competition, it will be almost impossible for them to stay in the Bundesliga. The pressure is already immensely high this coming Saturday.
In our Augsburg vs Hertha betting tips, we tell you whether we think the capital city side will get off to a good start in the decisive weeks and what other predictions we would make about this match.

Augsburg Form & Balance Check
Since their Bundesliga promotion in 2011, FC Augsburg have always managed to stay in the Bundesliga. This season, it finally looked for a long time as if it would finally catch the Fuggerstädter this year. However, an extreme rise in form in recent weeks seems to have saved the bacon of Markus Weinzierl’s team once again this year. FCA have picked up an impressive ten points from their last six matches in the Bundesliga.
In addition to a draw against Dortmund (1:1), there have been three wins in this period in Bielefeld (0:1), against Wolfsburg (2:0) and against Mainz (3:1) as well as two defeats in Stuttgart (3:2) and last weekend at FC Bayern (1:0). The strong performances in front of the home crowd were decisive in the first place. Of the last seven home games, FCA have lost only one – a narrow 2-1 against SC Freiburg on 19 February. Most recently, there were even two wins in a row at the WWK Arena, the last time there were more in a row was at the end of 2019.
Gregoritsch and his favourite opponent
Hopes on Saturday include Michael Gregoritsch, who should return to the starting eleven after overcoming a Corona infection and making a brief appearance against Bayern. The attacker scored against no current Bundesliga club as many goals as against Hertha (4). In the first leg at the Olympiastadion, Gregoritsch was able to secure a point for his team with the latest goal in Augsburg’s Bundesliga history in the seventh minute of stoppage time.
Augsburg facts & analysis
– 32 points from 29 games
– Last lost 0:1 at FC Bayern
– Last 2 home games won – more last time out in late 2019
– Last 13 home games always scored
Hertha form & balance check
The air is getting thinner and thinner for Hertha BSC in the relegation battle and as if the sporting situation wasn’t difficult enough, the 4-1 derby defeat to Union Berlin last Saturday also further damaged their relationship with their fans. After the game, they asked the team to lay down their jerseys in front of the curves. The message behind this: You are no longer worthy of wearing the jersey of this club. Whether this action will help the team in the decisive phase of the relegation battle is highly doubtful.
But hope dies last, as we all know, and with regard to next Saturday there are indeed a few factors that speak in favour of success for the Berliners. For one thing, Hertha have no better record against any current Bundesliga team than against Augsburg. In 19 encounters so far, the BSC has only suffered three defeats. Against no other team is the defeat quota so low (in at least five duels).
Does Hertha do it like they did in the first half?
In addition, Hertha picked up a proud eight points from their remaining five games in the Hinrunde. If they can repeat this feat in the second half of the season, they could still manage to stay in the relegation zone. For Felix Magath, however, success against Augsburg would be a first. He has lost his only two duels with the Fuggerstadtern.
Hertha facts & analysis
– 26 points from 29 games
– Last lost 1:4 against Union Berlin
– Lost only 3 of 19 duels with Augsburg
– Only 2 points from last 9 away games
Predicted line-up – last update on 14 April 2022
Fc Augsburg will have to do without Tobias Strobl, Noah Joel Sarenren Bazee (both cruciate ligament rupture) and Felix Uduokhai (thigh muscle injury) on Saturday. Compared to the 0:1 defeat at Bayern, we expect only one change. Michael Gregoritsch should replace Florian Niederlechner in the offensive.
The Berliners will have to do without keeper Rune Jarstein (knee surgery) and Alexander Schwolow (tendon injury), as well as Stevan Jovetic (muscle fibre tear) and Kelian Nsona (cruciate ligament tear) on Saturday. The starting eleven could be slightly altered compared to the derby defeat. Marvin Plattenhardt should start in place of youngster Julian Eitschberger. In addition, Marc-Oliver Kempf, Marco Richter, Suat Serdar and/or Niklas Stark could move into the starting eleven.
