Bayern Munich vs. FC Augsburg
On Saturday afternoon, FC Bayern can take the next step towards the championship. In their home game in the Bundesliga, they welcome FC Augsburg at 15:30, who have been bouncing back lately and keep fighting their way out of the relegation battle. Their win last week in the catch-up match against Mainz enabled them to break the 30-point barrier and they are now in 13th place with 32 points. Now it’s off to Munich to face the record champions, whom the Fuggerstädter were surprisingly able to upset in the first leg.
But it is incredibly difficult to win at Bayern. Especially after the defeat in the first leg of the Champions League, the FCB will be furious. A win against Augsburg is – with all due respect – mandatory for Bayern. With a three-goal win, they would have the championship as good as in the bag. Whether we think they will succeed, you can find out in this Bayern – Augsburg tip.

Bayern Form & Balance Check
You can’t really make heads or tails of Bayern this season. After the championship was made as good as perfect last weekend, they went to Villarreal with a broad chest. But there was very little to see of it, because the performance was anything but dominant and in the end they could even be happy that they only lost the first leg with 0:1. So anything is still possible in the second leg. Nevertheless, the record champions have to question this performance again, because it was not the first time this season that Bayern offered a questionable performance. The only positive thing about Wednesday’s game was that there is now only a one-goal deficit to make up.
Is the problem in Bayern’s defence?
It would be too easy to reduce the problems of the last few weeks and months to defensive errors alone, because other parts of the team are also part of the overall structure. For example, the ball losses in the forward movement on Wednesday were hair-raising and so the FCB caught dangerous counterattacks again and again. It is the main problem this season. Why the team loses so many balls cannot really be explained. It could be due to a lack of concentration or because the players often make the wrong decision. If Bayern really still want to win the Champions League, they have to get a grip on these problems.
Bayern facts & analysis
– Bayern won their last match in the Bundesliga 4-1 against Freiburg.
– They are the second best team in the second half of the season
– FC Bayern score an average of 3 goals per game at home
Augsburg form & balance check
You definitely have to take your hat off to Augsburg in this second half of the season. The Fuggerstädter have pulled away from the bottom of the table with a really strong run and are six points clear of the relegation places with six matchdays to go. With ten points from the last five games, FCA have everything in their own hands. Especially the 2:1 during the week in the catch-up game against Mainz was worth its weight in gold, even though they benefited from one of the most glaring wrong decisions of the season. In the end, the three points are on Augsburg’s side.
Planning for the new season can begin
We are pretty sure that 35 points will be enough to stay in the league this season. Augsburg are currently on 32, so they still need one more win to make sure they stay in the league again. Just a few weeks ago, hardly any football fans would have predicted that, and we too thought that the Fuggerstädter would be stuck at the bottom until the end. With a feasible remaining programme, another win should actually not be a problem and slowly those responsible can start thinking about the new season. We are very curious to see whether a change will follow in the summer.
Augsburg facts & analysis
– Against Wolfsburg and Mainz, Augsburg have won 2 in a row for the first time this season.
– Augsburg are in 10th place in the second round table.
– FCA have only won 2 of 14 away games
Predicted line-up – last update on 8 April 2022
For Julian Nagelsmann, this game offers an opportunity to rotate before the important second leg against Sevilla, as the championship is already as good as decided. Nevertheless, the record champions will still put a really good team on the pitch. Augsburg, on the other hand, actually have no reason to change anything in their starting eleven. Gruezo has to be replaced after his 5th yellow card, Maier is ready. In addition, Gregoritsch returns to the squad.
