French Open 2022, 3rd Round, Saturday, 28.05.2022
He is considered one of the top favourites for the title, but seems to have made it his mission at the French Open 2022 to give all the underdogs chances they never thought they had.
The world No. 4 wobbles precariously in Paris, but does not fall. Will the knot still burst or will he continue to struggle with increasingly close results? I’ll reveal that now in my Ymer Tsitsipas tip!
For the neutral fan, it is great fun to look over Stefanos Tsitsipas’ shoulder in Paris, but his own supporters will ask themselves: With what ambitions is the Greek competing here at all?
Alongside Novak Djokovic, Carlos Alcaraz and Rafael Nadal, he is actually considered one of the top favourites for the title; it would be his first at a Grand Slam. He almost said goodbye to these dreams in the first round.
5-7, 4-6, 6-2, 6-3, 6-2 against Lorenzo Musetti, it wouldn’t have taken much for his trip to the French capital to be very short. To make it a little easier for him, the draw promised him a qualifier afterwards.
Zdenek Kolar played in the main draw of a Grand Slam for the first time and was served a tough opponent. At times, however, it was not clear which of the two was actually the top player.
6-3, 7-6, 6-7, 7-6? Tsitsipas not only needed four sets, he was even sent into three tiebreaks by the underdog! This performance had hardly anything to do with the fabulous performances he is undoubtedly capable of.
He only used three of twelve break chances, his 25 aces did not hide the fact that his opponent’s service was better. If the 23-year-old really wants to triumph, he will have to improve considerably.
After the last two tournaments in Paris, each of which ended against Novak Djokovic once in the semi-finals and once in the final, it does not yet look like he can really set course for his first Grand Slam trophy in 2022.
Mikael Ymer, just barely active in the top 100, doesn’t really have what it takes to hurt Tsitsipas on paper either. This is the first time the two meet, and once again the German bettors don’t want to know anything about a sensation.
11.50 to 1.05, the values could not be clearer. Mikael Ymer knows, of course, that if Tsitsipas has a normal day, he should have no chance. The weaknesses of his superior opponent, however, were not hidden from him.
The Swede has already met the world No. 4 three times, and their paths have already crossed this year as well. Tsitsipas won outright at the Australian Open, and we saw the same match down under in 2021.
A year earlier, the favourite also won without problems. On clay, however, the first duel will take place on Saturday. The 23-year-old reached the 3rd round in Paris for the second time after last year.
His 6-2, 6-4, 6-2 against James Duckworth could have been expected, but whoever wins against Daniel Evans in the 2nd round 6-3, 3-6, 6-2, 6-3 does not have to go down against Stefanos Tsitsipas.
Ymer has only won one match in two tournaments this year, and now he is preparing to show his best performance at the French Open of all places.
My Ymer Tsitsipas Tip
For Stefanos Tsitsipas, the winning streak in Paris should end soon, the Greek must finally find his form. So far, he has been served easy opponents against whom he nevertheless has big problems.
That’s why I’m betting:
There are more than 27.5 games!
