Wimbledon tips today – Matches today from 29.06.
A new day is dawning at Wimbledon, more specifically day number 3 in the main draw! All players are through with their first round, from the German point of view there were light and shadow in equal measure.
Of course, in today’s tennis tips we are not only looking at the performances with one eye in black-red-gold. The top favourites for the title also want to continue their way towards the cup.
Tragic in any case were the positive Corona tests for Marin Cilic and especially Matteo Berrettini, whom many rated very highly. Is there anyone else who can really be a threat to Novak Djokovic?
Since both the Djoker and Carlos Alcaraz had to shake in the 1st round – Alcaraz was even on the verge of elimination – it will be particularly exciting to see how the two players have dealt with the difficult first match.
Wimbledon tips today – 29.06.2022 Day 3 preview
Novak Djokovic certainly expected his opener to be easier, needing four sets against Soon-woo Kwon. Thanasi Kokkinakis is actually an even more unpleasant opponent, so will the world No. 3 have to sit out again?
From the German point of view, it was of course particularly pleasing that Maximilian Marterer not only survived the qualifying round, but also the first round. Frances Tiafoe now wants to prevent Marterer from celebrating again.
For Casper Ruud, finalist of the French Open, Wimbledon started with two tiebreaks. His performance was erratic, which is why the bookmakers see him and opponent Ugo Humbert close together in Round 2.
As for Carlos Alcaraz, many did not know whether he could do it on grass. Against Jan-Lennard Struff, he came incredibly close in five sets. It’s clear that Tallon Griekspoor now also fancies his chances of a surprise.
When the 35-year-old Murray meets the 37-year-old John Isner, he will have a wealth of experience on court. The local hero will try to put the king of aces in his place for the ninth time in a direct duel.
Oscar Otte simply picks up where he left off in Wimbledon! Germany’s second best tennis player is in irresistible form and of course doesn’t want to be stopped by Christian Harrison.
Tennis tips today broadcast: Where will the matches be played on 29.06?
Those hoping to watch Wimbledon on public television will be disappointed. Only Sky customers can enjoy the numerous rallies. Every day, the broadcast begins shortly before 12 noon, with five channels reporting from the various courts.
Wimbledon tips today 29.05.: Novak Djokovic – Thanasi Kokkinakis (14:35 hrs)
First a difficult sporting start, then Corona trouble: For Novak Djokovic, things are not going well at all in London. He trained together with Matteo Berrettini, who has now tested positive, and has not been vaccinated. The consequences? Still unknown!
On court, he got off to a mixed start with a 6-3, 3-6, 6-3, 6-4 against Soon-woo Kwon, many had expected more. Only his strong first serve was impressive. Will Thanasi Kokkinakis also be able to annoy the Serb?
The Australian is Nick Kyrgios’ doubles partner, and the two have similar characters. He started his tournament with a 7-6, 6-2, 7-5 win over Kamil Majchrzak, 17 aces and 81% won points on first serve bagging the win.
Kokkinakis serves very well and has an advantage over Djokovic. So far, the two have only met at the 2015 French Open, when the favourite won 6-4, 6-4, 6-4. On Wednesday, Djokovic only has odds of 1.05!
Our Djokovic Kokkinakis Expert Tip: Over 30.5 Games
Wimbledon tips today 29.06: Frances Tiafoe – Maximilian Marterer (12:00 h)
Will he be the big German surprise in London? Maximilian Marterer will make his first appearance in the 2nd round of Wimbledon on Wednesday, having already fought his way through four matches as a qualifier.
Against Aljaz Bedene, the 27-year-old was actually the underdog and lost the first set. In the end, however, he celebrated a 4-6, 7-5, 6-4, 7-5. A close, hard-fought result, he already attracted attention in the qualifying.
He did not cut a good figure at all in the last Challengers on grass, so his current performance is all the more surprising. Frances Tiafoe, the world number 24, will be a big challenge. 1.20 to 4.20, the betting companies actually see a mini chance for the German.
Tiafoe had quite some trouble at the start, defeating the Italian Andrea Vavassori 6-4, 6-4, 6-4. He won more than 80% of his points on the first serve. This could be his advantage over Marterer, who only managed 51%.
Our Tiafoe Marterer Expert Tip: Under 37.5 Games
Wimbledon tips today 29.06.: Casper Ruud – Ugo Humbert (12:00 h)
Everyone saw how strong Casper Ruud plays on clay at the French Open, where the Norwegian reached the final. But now it is clear that he has much bigger problems on grass. 7-6, 7-6, 6-2, against Albert Ramos the knot opened late.
No wonder, because already in the preparation Ruud was not in a very good mood. In Queens he failed directly in the 1st round against Ryan Peniston, in this match both tiebreaks were lost.
2nd round Wimbledon? This is indeed a first for him. Against Ugo Humbert, many expect him to struggle again. 1.70 to 2.15, not much difference here. Humbert started with a real thriller in London.
6-3, 3-6, 4-6, 6-3, 6-4 against Tomas Martin Etcheverry, that took a lot of energy. The Frenchman can claim to have won two out of three direct duels against Ruud. All three, by the way, went over three sets.
Our Ruud Humbert expert tip: Over 3.5 sets
Wimbledon tips today 28.06.: Tallon Griekspoor – Carlos Alcaraz (15:15 h)
Winning three major tournaments, the tennis world’s celebrated prodigy, virtually unbeatable in the spring – are all these superlatives starting to get a bit out of Carlos Alcaraz’s head? The 19-year-old was on the verge of a major embarrassment.
Against Jan-Lennard Struff, who is actually not in any rhythm at all, he won 4-6, 7-5, 4-6, 7-6, 6-4. He was almost eliminated in the first round! Now he has to play Tallon Griekspoor, who is actually stronger than Struff.
The Dutchman turned around a 5-7 in the first set against Fabio Fognini and won 5-7, 7-5, 6-3, 6-4 in the end. With 14 aces and 84% won points on the first serve he does not have to hide behind Alcaraz.
It will be a day of firsts for him because firstly he has never faced the young Spaniard and secondly he is finally contesting a 2nd round at Wimbledon. With odds of 3.20, the bookmakers have every confidence in him!
Our Griekspoor Alcaraz Expert Tip: Over 37.5 Games
Wimbledon tips today 29.06.: Andy Murray – John Isner (17:45)
John Isner vs Andy Murray? When these two veterans, together they are 72 years old, meet on Wednesday, a spectacle is definitely expected. As is actually always the case when the US American serves.
The giant’s service is almost impossible to defend, he is the absolute king of aces. In his first round he started with a typical 6-7, 7-6, 4-6, 6-3, 7-5 against Enzo Couacaod. Tiebreaks and five sets, you know him.
He hit an incredible 54 aces in this match! Andy Murray won 4-6, 6-3, 6-2, 6-4 against James Duckworth in his 1st round match, still got 15 aces and a whopping 84% points on first serve.
He has not met Isner for several years, but: all eight duels went to the Scot! The two-time winner of Wimbledon is therefore also favoured by the bookmakers, the odds show 1.40 to 2.70.
Our Murray Isner Expert Tip: 3:2 Murray
Wimbledon tips today 29.06.: Oscar Otte – Christian Harrison (13:15)
Alexander Zverev will be rooting for him, as will all German tennis fans: Oscar Otte could play the tournament of his life. He reached the semi-finals three times in the last few weeks, always failing very narrowly against absolute top stars.
He even lost to Matteo Berrettini without giving up a single break. A strong serve helps him to achieve his results. As expected, he had no problems at all against compatriot Peter Gojowczyk in the first round.
6-1, 6-2, 6-1, and that despite ten double faults! How does this Otte play when he no longer has any concentration problems? Christian Harrison, on the other hand, is a qualifier and wants to beat the second German.
He eliminated Daniel Masur in the qualifying round, then won 7-6, 6-1, 7-6 against Jay Clarke in the main draw. Although the 28-year-old only allowed two breaks, he couldn’t match Otte’s statistics on service.
Our Otte Harrison Expert Tip: 3:0 Otte
