Wimbledon Tips Today – 05/07/2022 Preview Day 9
From the start, Novak Djokovic was the big favourite, as the results show, and rightly so. Now, however, by far the toughest opponent awaits, as Jannik Sinner even beat Carlos Alcaraz!
Not everyone expected David Goffin and Cameron Norrie in the quarter-finals, both had a bit of luck with the tournament branch. Clearly, all of London wishes Norrie would serve in the semi-finals.
In the women’s singles there is not one German sensation in the round of the best eight, there are two of them. Tatjana Maria and Jule Niemeier are playing the tournament of their lives, it’s a pity that only one of them can advance on Tuesday!
After Iga Swiatek was eliminated in a complete surprise, the favourite position has gone to Ons Jabeur. The Tunisian has already won two tournaments in 2022, so Marie Bouzkova should not be the final stop just yet.

Wimbledon tips today 05.07.: Novak Djokovic – Jannik Sinner (14:45 Uhr)
It’s hard to imagine Novak Djokovic not lifting the Wimbledon title in the end. The Serb is living up to his reputation, although unusually he dropped two sets in London.
In the round of 16, he beat Tim van Rijthoven 6-2, 4-6, 6-1, 6-2, the one lost set resulting from the only break against him. But it was not to fall flat on its face as confidently and smoothly as he had previously knocked out Thanasi Kokkinakis and Miomir Kecmanovic.
However Djokovic played, one thing is certain: no opponent has ever had the calibre of Jannik Sinner. The South Tyrolean could reach a Grand Slam semi-final for the first time in his career if he beats the Djoker.
Whoever wins 6-1, 6-4, 6-7, 6-3 against Carlos Alcaraz definitely has nothing to fear. Sinner also defeated John Isner, who was so strong, and did so easily. It doesn’t help in terms of odds, though, Djokovic is clearly ahead, as always. In this case, the average is 1.10 to 6.00.

Wimbledon tips today 05.07.: David Goffin – Cameron Norrie (16:15 Uhr)
London is hoping for a British finalist! Cameron Norrie could be the one to fulfil his countrymen’s dreams. With the exception of the 2nd round, he is playing a phenomenal tournament, as recently as in preparation he had not been up to scratch at all.
He defeated Pablo Andujar, Steve Johnson and Tommy Paul outright, in the 6-4, 3-6, 5-7, 6-0, 6-2 against Jaume Munar he celebrated a great comeback after trailing 1:2. Already three times Norrie collected a 6-0 in this tournament. His upcoming opponent is guaranteed not to be an unbeatable one.
After many less successful months, David Goffin is finally showing his strong side again. The Belgian first eliminated Radu Albot and Sebastian Baez before he also had to give in to Ugo Humbert.
He finally delivered a real thriller for hours in the round of 16 against Frances Tiafoe. 7-6, 5-7, 5-7, 6-4, 7-5, it could not have been closer. Close, a good keyword, because the bookmakers are also counting on it on Tuesday. 1.44 to 2.70 – so the one slightly ahead is Cameron Norrie.

Wimbledon tips today 05.07.: Tatjana Maria – Jule Niemeier (14:15 h)
It’s the absolute highlight from a German point of view: Tatjana Maria fights against Jule Niemeier for a place in the semi-finals of Wimbledon! For both ladies it will be the biggest match of their careers on Tuesday. Who they have eliminated so far reads almost unbelievable.
Maria beat Jelena Ostapenko 5-7, 7-5, 7-5 in the last 16, fending off two match points. Earlier in the day, she had won outright against Maria Sakkari, the world No. 5, and also defeated Sorana Cirstea and Astra Sharma.
On Jule Niemeier’s side, the results read no less impressive. Especially the 6-4, 6-0 against No. 2 seed Annet Kontaveit was excellent, but also the 6-3, 6-4 in the round of 16 against Heather Watson.
Lesia Tsurenko and Xiyu Wang also had no chance against her. She only dropped one set, Kontaveit did not even have a single chance to break. She will now meet Tatjana Maria for the very first time. With odds of 1.50 to 2.50, the bookmakers send her into the match as the narrow favourite.

Wimbledon tips today 05.07.: Marie Bouzkova – Ons Jabeur (17:45)
With Iga Swiatek the big high-flyer in the women’s singles has surprisingly been eliminated early, also Anett Kontaveit and Maria Sakkari are already at home. The new top favourite is therefore Ons Jabeur and is the world number 2.
She won two tournaments this year, including the one in Berlin a few weeks ago. In London, she is showing incredible strength, not dropping a single set in the four matches she has played so far. But with Mirjam Björklund, Katarzyna Kawa, Diane Perry and Elise Mertens, she has not had the most difficult opponents.
Is Marie Bouzkova a more demanding one? After all, she is ranked far away from the Top 50. The young Czech is a big surprise, as she already showed in her opening match against Danielle Collins. Ann Li and Alison Riske also bounced off her.
In the round of 16, Bouzkova won against Caroline Garcia, without a hitch. She dropped only one set, which makes her a real threat to Jabeur. Even if the odds of 3.80 to 1.25 say otherwise.
