Wimbledon tips today – Matches today from 01.07.
In Wimbledon we are slowly but surely moving towards the first weekend. For Friday, the schedule already includes the first matches of the 3rd round, and there is a lot to do in the women’s and men’s tournaments.
From a German point of view, it is of course particularly nice that there is still a lot of activity. Can Oscar Otte, for example, be a threat to prodigy Carlos Alcaraz? And what is the sensation Jule Niemeier doing?

Novak Djokovic may have struggled in the 1st round, but he showed much improvement afterwards. In the Serbian duel, he will not want to reveal any weaknesses against Miomir Kecmanovic, but move on quickly.
For the fans in London it would be extremely positive if a strong Briton, Cameron Norrie, would stay in the tournament. After his recent five-setter, he hopes that Steve Johnson does not get ahead of himself in the 3rd round.
From the German point of view, we are looking especially at Oscar Otte. As strong as he is playing at the moment, now it comes to the duel with high-flyer Carlos Alcaraz. The outsider really has to have a great day here.
The king of aces wants to do it again at Wimbledon! John Isner wants to repeat the semi-final of 2018, but can he prevail against Jannik Sinner? After all, the Italian has not yet celebrated an outright victory.
In the women’s singles, the DTB is very satisfied this year. Jule Niemeier played co-favourite Anett Kontaveit to the wall, now she wants to repeat her performance against Lesia Tsurenko, who is in a much worse position.
Tatjana Maria is also aiming for the last 16, which would be her first Grand Slam. Her opponent is a tough one, the world number 5 Maria Sakkari. Can the German really pull off the sensation?

Wimbledon tips today 01.07.: Novak Djokovic – Miomir Kecmanovic (10:00 a.m.)
Matteo Berrettini out with positive corona, Rafael Nadal with problems, Daniil Medvedev and Alexander Zverev out – Novak Djokovic is not to be dissuaded from another GS title, according to the experts.
After his 4-1 win over Soon-woo Kwon, who certainly revealed problems, he did much better in the 2nd round, winning 6-1, 6-4, 6-2 against Thanasi Kokkinakis. As a result, he is now clearly favoured again against Miomir Kecmanovic.
And so clearly that sometimes you can’t even place a singles bet. Djokovic’s compatriot has won at Wimbledon against John Millman and Alejandro Tabilo, but with a lot of trouble.
Especially in the 2nd round against Tabile, two tiebreaks had to help. A few months ago in Belgrade, he was able to keep up well with the Djoker, losing in three sets relatively narrowly.

Wimbledon tips today 01.07.: Cameron Norrie – Steve Johnson (17:45 Uhr)
With a real show of strength Cameron Norrie heaved himself into the 3rd round, the crowd breathed a sigh of relief. 6-3, 6-3, 5-7, 6-0, 6-2 against Jaume Munar, it was only after he was facing elimination that the knot burst and he played his opponent down.
He had had much less difficulties in his 6-0, 7-6, 6-3 defeat of Pablo Andujar. The Briton had a hard time preparing for the match, winning only one match in Queens and Eastbourne.
With odds of 1.25, Norrie is the clear favourite on Friday, the schedule has brought him Steve Johnson as an opponent. The American was lucky that Grigor Dimitrov had to retire in the 1st round.
As a result, he was able to celebrate a victory against a local hero in round 2. He won 6-3, 6-2, 6-4 against Ryan Peniston, but Cameron Norrie will of course be a different matter.

Wimbledon tips today 01.07.: Oscar Otte – Carlos Alcaraz (16:30 h)
Oscar Otte wants to keep the German flag flying high at this Grand Slam. After his dismantling of Peter Gojowczyk (6-1, 6-2, 6-1), he also wanted to show off against Christian Harrison, but he already gave up at 1-3 from his point of view.
Maybe it helps Otte to have saved some energy, because now he has to play the great Carlos Alcaraz. In the last few weeks he had players like Matteo Berrettini or Daniil Medvedev on the brink of defeat, he wants to do the same against the Spaniard.
Why not, Alcaraz, although clearly favoured, has his problems on grass. 4-6, 7-5, 4-6, 7-6, 6-4, he was almost eliminated against Jan-Lennard Struff. Things went better in round 2.
Alcaraz won 6-4, 7-6, 6-3 against Tallon Griekspoor. Now the question is: Can he resist Otte’s service? Berrettini couldn’t break once against the German a few days ago!

Wimbledon tips today 01.07.: Jannik Sinner – John Isner (12:00 h)
British fans would have loved to see Andy Murray in the 3rd round, but even he was powerless against John Isner’s serve. At 37, the US American can still do it, he serves like in his best times.
You know him: close results, several sets and tiebreaks, you can rely on that for almost 20 years. Against Murray and Couacaud, he collected a whopping 90 aces and played two tiebreaks each.
His opponent on Friday, Jannik Sinner, is also known for not closing out matches smoothly. At least that’s how it goes in Wimbledon, where he won 3:1 against Stan Wawrinka as well as against Mikael Ymer.
For months, the young Italian only lost to the absolute superstars, but his defeat in Eastbourne against Tommy Paul raised questions. He is not really consistent yet, moreover it is his first 3rd round at Wimbledon. 1.50 to 2.40, Sinner is also narrowly favoured.

Wimbledon tips today 01.07.: Lesia Tsurenko – Jule Niemeier (12:00 h)
Jule Niemeier is already playing the tournament of her life despite only reaching the 3rd round. The 22-year-old is competing in the main draw of a Grand Slam for only the second time ever, and so far she is succeeding in everything.
After defeating Xiyu Wang, she faced world number three Anett Kontaveit. 6-4, 6-0, no break chance, what Niemeier conjured up on the grass was worthy of all honour.
She was already in good form in the weeks before Wimbledon, winning sets against Daria Kasatkina and Belinda Bencic. Lesia Tsurenko, not even in the world’s top 100, is therefore also the outsider on Friday.
The Ukrainian beat her compatriot Anhelina Kalinina as well as Jodie Burrage, both of whom are naturally much weaker than Anett Kontaveit. However, the 33-year-old has never met the much younger Niemeier.

Wimbledon tips today 01.07.: Maria Sakkari – Tatjana Maria (11:00 a.m.)
For Tatjana Maria, reaching the 3rd round is already a great success, she never advanced at Wimbledon. The 34-year-old is known as a fighter, needing a third set against both Astra Sharma and Sorana Cirstea.
Maria may be past her best, but for months she has almost only been eliminated in three sets or two of them with at least one tiebreak. Even against top stars, she can bite her way into the match.
For example, at the 2022 Australian Open, she narrowly lost to her current opponent Maria Sakkari 4-6, 6-7, so the Greek knows not to underestimate Maria, especially since she “only” won against Zoe Hives and Viktorija Tomova in London.
Both are not among the world elite. Sakkari may be top in the rankings, but she is not yet really consistent. In Eastbourne, for example, she was eliminated directly in the 1st round against Anhelina Kalinina. With odds of 1.12 to 6.40, she is nevertheless clearly favoured on Friday.
