The most prestigious tennis tournament of the year starts! The first round of the men’s and women’s Wimbledon starts on Monday. Superstars Jannik Sinner, Carlos Alcaraz and Daniil Medvedev will be playing on the very first day.
But some German tennis aces will also be taking part. Jan-Lennard Struff will start against Fabian Marozsan, Maximilian Marterer will face Roberto Bautista Agut and Yannick Hanfmann will meet the world number one and Halle winner Sinner.
This is a rough summary of the matches I’m presenting to you in today’s Wimbledon tips. The tournament favorite odds from our top betting providers are similar to those for the French Open. Sinner, Alcaraz and Novak Djokovic are the trio to beat
Sinner is at 2.87, just ahead of defending champion and French Open winner Alcaraz (3.40) and Djokovic (4.00), who has already triumphed seven times on the hallowed turf. The question for the record Grand Slam winner is whether he is fit. After all, he had to pull out in Paris and even underwent surgery.
While I’m concentrating on a mix of the matches between the top players and the German players today, my colleague Isabella Strehmann has two more singles matches for you. Take a look at the Koepfer Fognini tip and the Altmaier Fery tip from today!
Wimbledon today – 01.07.2024
Jokovic hasn’t played a match on court since the French Open, so his preparation for the grass court tournament looks different. His opponent in last year’s final, Alcaraz, has only played two matches at the Queens Club, losing to Jack Draper in the second match.
Of the top stars, Sinner certainly has the greatest self-confidence after his success in Halle, as it was his first ever tournament win on grass. The South Tyrolean reached the semi-finals at Wimbledon last year before Djokovic knocked him out of the tournament. In 2022, he reached the quarter-finals.
The match against Hanfmann should not present him with any major difficulties. The player from Karlsruhe cannot confirm his strong form from 2023 this year and has lost a lot of places in the world rankings.
The other top five players, Alcaraz and Medvedev, have also been given grateful draws. From a German perspective, Jan-Lennard Struff is a hot prospect alongside Alexander Zverev, who has to play on Tuesday. He should have Fabian Marozsan under control, the Hungarian is inexperienced on grass
Wimbledon broadcast today: Where are the matches on 01.07.?
I have good news and bad news for the Wimbledon broadcast. The bad news is that a paid subscription is required to watch Wimbledon.
The good news is that the matches will be shown live on Prime Video, which is part of the Amazon Prime package that many people already have. Alternatively, you can also watch the matches live on Bet365 and Winamax.
Wimbledon today 01.07.: Struff – Marozsan (12:00)
Grass is not Struff’s favorite surface, he has won just 43 percent of his matches on it. But this year he is in strong form. He hasn’t lost to a player outside the top 10 since February.
Marozsan, on the other hand, can still be described as a newcomer on grass, having played just eight matches so far and won only one of his four matches in 2024. He is generally struggling with his form, with two wins from his last nine matches. Struff also has a much more dangerous serve, an important element in grass court tennis.
My expert tip: 3:0 Struff
Wimbledon betting today 01.07.: Kovacevic – Medvedev (14:00)
Medvedev, like Sinner and Alcaraz, has only played one grass court tournament before Wimbledon. However, the Russian disappointed in Halle. He celebrated a two-set victory against Nuno Borges, Zhizhen Zhang then beat the two-time Grand Slam winner in round two.
Nevertheless, I expect a good start to the tournament for Medvedev. His opponent arrives with four defeats in a row, has only two wins on grass in his career and has only reached the second round of a tournament once since the beginning of March.
My expert tip: 3:0 Medvedev
Tennis betting today 01.07.: Alcaraz – Lajal (14:30)
Twelve matches, twelve wins, that’s Alcaraz’s grass court record in 2023. At the Queens Club, he lost early to Stuttgart champion Draper this year. Nevertheless, the man who bagged his first Roland Garros title a few weeks ago should definitely be a force to be reckoned with.
He is playing against the 262nd player in the world, Mark Lajal, for the first time. The Estonian successfully mastered the qualifying, taking a seeded James Duckworth out of the field. The qualifier comes out of nowhere in view of his poor performance in 2024. Alcaraz should have an easy game.
My expert tip: 3:0 Alcaraz
Tennis betting today 01.07.: Bautista Agut – Marterer (17:00)
The now 36-year-old Roberto Bautista Agut is no longer able to build on his glory days, but he definitely had better preparation for Wimbledon than his opponent Marterer. Agut reached the quarter-finals in Mallorca, losing narrowly to Gael Monfils, before that he had at least reached the second round in Hertogenbosch.
Marterer, on the other hand, failed in the Stuttgart qualifiers, at least made it into the main draw in Mallorca, but went down in a hurry against Paul Jubb (1-6, 2-6). In the three-set match, however, I think the strong-serving player from Nuremberg is capable of winning the set.
My expert tip: Over 3.5 sets
Wimbledon today 01.07.: Sinner – Hanfmann (17:30)
On the big stage, the Center Court, Hanfmann can serve on Monday. He has to play the world number one, Sinner. The South Tyrolean, who recently had to digest his Squadra Azzurra’s elimination from the European Championships, won in Halle and is having the best year of his career.
Hanfmann had his best season in 2023, but is now only just in the top 100. His most recent results have not been promising either. At Grand Slam level, he played against Sinner last year in New York and went down in three sets.
My expert tip: 3:0 Sinner
