ATP Finals 2021: favourites, forecast, betting
The best eight players of the 2021 tennis year are in action at the last major tournament of the year, playing for the unofficial world title at the ATP Finals in Turin from 14-21 Nov.
Who will win the ATP Finals 2021?
World number one Novak Djokovic is certainly the big favourite to win the title. A lot speaks in favour of the 34-year-old Serb, but a lot does not.
The broadcast of the ATP Finals 2021
Where will the ATP Finals 2021 be broadcast – on Sky, DAZN or Eurosport?
As Sky owns the broadcast rights to the biggest tournaments on the ATP Tour in Germany, Austria and Switzerland until 2023, the ATP Finals 2021 will be broadcast exclusively on Sky.
However, Sky will not only offer the matches on pay-TV, but also via livestream.
Qualified for the ATP Finals 2021 are the best eight players of this season.
Rafael Nadal, the world number six, cannot take part due to injury. He will be replaced by Norwegian Casper Ruud, who is making his first appearance at the ATP Finals. The second debutant at the season-ending tournament is Hubert Hurkacz.
Other prominent absentees are Roger Federer and Dominic Thiem, last year’s finalist. Both were injured this season and thus missed the participation in the ATP Finals 2021.
The big favourites for the ATP Finals 2021
There are only eight players at the ATP Finals – the best of 2021. Accordingly, the favourites to win the tournament are also small, because basically anyone from the field can win.
Nevertheless, there is one big favourite in the ATP Finals winner odds: Novak Djokovic.
But: In the last five years, the 34-year-old has not won the season finale – and there have been five different winners. Most recently, three in a row who have not won a Grand Slam tournament before that.
Novak Djokovic – 2021 ATP Finals odds-on favourite
According to ATP Finals predictions by tennis experts and bookmaker betting odds, the winner of the season-ending tournament will probably be Novak Djokovic.
He is in top form towards the end of the season, as his victory at the Masters1000 event in Paris-Bercy showed recently.
In Paris, he defeated Daniil Medvedev in the final and thus made himself the record champion of this tournament category with the 37th Masters title of his career.
Djokovic can achieve the next record at the ATP Finals: He has won the ATP Finals five times so far, most recently in 2015. With another title win, he would draw level with record winner Roger Federer.
In any case, the motivation is there for the “Djoker”, the bitter defeat in the US Open final – with which he would have won all four Grand Slam tournaments this year, which last happened in 1969 – has been dealt with and forgotten.
Daniil Medvedev, last year’s winner
If anyone can spoil Novak Djokovic’s sixth win in the season-ending tournament, it is probably Daniil Medvedev.
Although the 25-year-old Russian lost the final match in Paris-Bercy against Djokovic, the world number two is currently “The Best of the Rest” behind the industry leader for a reason.
Medvedev won the US Open in the autumn and thus his first Grand Slam title. He also won the ATP Finals last year.
However, the statistics would speak somewhat against the eccentric Russian: there has been no title defence for five years, and in the last four years the winner of the year before could not even reach the final.
ATP Finals betting on Alexander Zverev?
What are Alexander Zverev’s chances at the 2021 ATP Finals?
He recently won the APT500 tournament in Vienna, the first title with new girlfriend Sophia Thomalla. Things didn’t go according to plan for Zverev in Paris-Bercy, but Sascha should still be a force to be reckoned with at the season finale.
He played the best year of his career and won a total of five tournaments – including the gold medal at the Olympic Games in Tokyo.
That gave Zverev an enormous boost. Currently, the 25-year-old from Hamburg is number 3 in the ATP world rankings and comes to Turin accordingly confident.
Besides, Zverev knows how to win the ATP Finals – he managed to do that in 2018.
What are Stefanos Tsitsipas’ chances?
One of the big bookmaker favourites among the ATP Finals 2021 betting odds is Stefanos Tsitsipas.
The 25-year-old Greek is ranked No. 4 in the world and he too has already managed to win the prestigious season-ending event. That was in 2019 and is also his first and last major title so far.
Can he also win in 2021? At the ATP Finals, when the best eight players of the year clash, a lot is possible, but for that to happen, his form would have to be right.
And Tsitsipas, who has only won two tournaments in 2021, has left something to be desired lately. His last results were a quarter-final in Indian Wells, a second-round exit in Vienna and a retirement in Paris.
The best bets for the ATP Finals 2021
Whenever a major event like the ATP Finals 2021 is coming up, interest in tennis becomes a notch higher among sports betting enthusiasts as well.
Which tennis bets are the most popular, which are suitable for the most important tournament besides the four Grand Slam events? We give you a short, compact overview here!
1st win bet
Logically, this is about who will win the match.
For the title favourites – such as Djokovic or Medvedev – the odds are quite low, especially against the “outsiders”.
That’s why bettors like to focus on combination bets – they can be used to “push” many small odds into one big total odds.
2. set bets
The ATP Finals 2021 are almost as important as a Grand Slam tournament – but the matches take place in best-of-3 mode. This means that at least two sets must be won for a victory.
Therefore, bets on sets are the best bets here.
The remaining bet is “Over 2.5 sets in the match”. This bet is won if more than two sets are played – that is, if both players have won at least one set.
Especially when two players of the same level meet, the probability is quite high that both can win a set.
Set bets are also popular for live tennis betting, because the regular changes of sides and serves leave plenty of time for analysis and betting.
There are also different forms and types of set bets.
On the one hand as a result bet – e.g.: “Novak Djokovic wins 2:0” (meaning: Djokovic wins two sets, his opponent none) – or as a handicap bet. This involves giving the underdog a virtual lead of, for example, one set.
3. tie-break
As matches at the season-ending tournament can go over three sets, the likelihood of at least one set going to a tie-break also increases.
The best tennis bookmakers have the betting market “Will there be a tie-break in the match” in their ATP Finals bets and odds.
This bet makes sense especially when two players of roughly equal ability meet or when two players with a strong serve meet.
4. long term bets
The ATP Finals are made for long term betting.
In addition to bets on the eventual winner of the tournament, the best tennis bookies also offer a variety of other betting options for the course of the tournament. Very popular here, because the tournament starts in two groups of four, is the special bet: Who will win the group?
The selection is not quite as extensive as in football, for example, but a few betting options are still quite in demand:
“Who will reach the final” and “From which group will the winner come”.
The latter is interesting, for example, because the two best players of this season are drawn into different groups.
