Wimbledon, 1st Round, Monday, 03.07.2023
It’s short, the season on grass, but the climax is all the more prestigious for it. On Monday, the battle on the Holy Lawn begins in London, Wimbledon 2023 should once again offer the fans tennis of the absolute extra class.
The chances of winning the title from Germany’s point of view may not be too great, but the men have already delivered some brilliant performances this year. The world number 65 also knows how well he can play tennis.
On Monday, his opponent is by no means an easy one, but although he is behind him in the rankings, he is in fact the favourite of Bet3000 and Co. Therefore, I now reveal in my Vukic Altmaier tip why I see chances for a long, intense match!
The change from clay to grass is not an easy task for most players. Daniel Altmaier had given German tennis fans some great moments, and the red clay suited him particularly well.
After successes against some top stars, he travelled confidently to the French Open in Paris, where he sensationally knocked out Jannik Sinner. In the 3rd round he was taught a lesson by Grigor Dimitrov, but he could still be proud of the tournament.
A little later, Altmaier had to give his body a little break, in Stuttgart and Halle he only played one match over the full distance. So how is he doing, how does the fast grass suit him?
Questions that are also very difficult for us to answer at this point. It’s a bit of a mystery what he will be capable of in the coming days. His favourite Grand Slam is not Wimbledon anyway.
A qualifying exit in 2021, a three-set loss to Mikael Ymer in the 1st round last year, if he wins on Monday, it will be his best result ever.
Our betting providers, however, are a little sceptical, because they don’t know exactly what the German’s form is like. The average odds bring to light a 2.10 to 1.70.
Aleksandar Vukic appears at number 91 in the world rankings, some way behind Altmaier. Last year, both met for the first and so far only time in a row, but only in a qualifier.
In Phoenix, Altmaier was successful in three sets. This is the Australian’s first appearance in the main draw at Wimbledon, so he could well be a little nervous.
After he had already pulled out of the French Open in the qualifying round, he made his way to England. At the Surbiton Trophy, he reached the doubles final but lost in round 1 to Zachary Svajda in the singles.
A little later in Nottingham, things didn’t go much better, with a 6-2, 6-7, 4-6 loss to Alex Michelsen. He also failed to win the third preparatory tournament in Queens.
Here, Grigor Dimitrov, a very strong opponent, was involved in a 3-6, 4-6 defeat. And in Eastbourne, which Vukic finally took shortly before Wimbledon?
Here things finally went better! After surviving qualifying, he beat Brandon Nakashima, also showed a pleasing performance in the 6-7, 4-6 in the round of 16 against Miomir Kecmanovic.
My Vukic Altmaier tip
For Daniel Altmaier, the preparations for the third Grand Slam of the year were anything but easy. The 24-year-old had shown brilliant performances on clay, but afterwards his body went on strike.
How bad the injuries really were, he kept secret. From now on, it’s all about London, he has to cope with the fast grass. Despite my analysis, it is really difficult to assess him.
Aleksandar Vukic has played four tournaments on the fast grass, but has only won one main draw match. So, since I don’t think both players are quite as consistent, I’ll go for a close match and guess:
We see more than 41,5 Games!
