While the bookies offer almost identical odds on Andrey Rublev and Frances Tiafoe, in the case of Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz the Spaniard is narrowly ahead. At 1.50 to 2.50, however, the differences are not too great.
The direct comparison should speak more in favour of Sinner anyway, because: Not only did he beat him 3:1 in sets in Wimbledon a few weeks ago, but also a little later in the tournament in Umag, where he really beat Alcaraz and won the trophy.
As strong as he was in these duels, he certainly has his problems in New York. Not only because he needed the full five sets in the round of 16 against Ilya Ivashka. Already in the first round against Daniel Altmaier he had to go the full distance.
Christopher Eubanks is the only one against whom Sinner could win outright, because Brandon Nakashima at least took one set from him. Carlos Alcaraz, however, also had a real thriller, winning 6-4, 3-6, 6-4, 4-6, 6-3 over Marin Cilic in the last 16.
Jenson Brooksby and Federico Coria were previously beaten without dropping a set, but Jannik Sinner is likely to be a different kettle of fish here. One thing is certain: a semi-final at a Grand Slam would be an unforgettable highlight for both players!

US Open tips tonight: Iga Swiatek – Jessica Pegula (01:00am)
The number 1 in the world meets the number 8 – even the bookmakers are giving relatively tight odds! When Jessica Pegula challenges Iga Swiatek, we see a 1.40 to 2.80. The Pole was once already clearly in front.
In the round of 16 against Jule Niemeier she had big problems at first, but in the end she won 2-6, 6-4, 6-0. However, the fact that she offered twelve break chances showed that even she forgets her consistency once in a while.

The feeling of a quarter-final at a Grand Slam, Petra Kvitova knows it well. The Czech would love to reach the final for a second time after 2016 in New York, but to do so she will have to get Aryna Sabalenka out of the way on Wednesday.
2.10 to 1.70, the bookmakers have the world number 22 as the slight underdog. In the direct duel with Sabalenka, the score is 2:2. What speaks for Pliskova: She won the two most recent duels in 2021, her defeats were already more than four years ago.
Pliskova has beaten Magda Linette, Marie Bouzkova, Belinda Bencic and Victoria Azarenka in the last few days – some pretty big names. So she can be forgiven for only managing to win outright once.
Aryna Sabalenka, ranked sixth, reached the semi-finals of the US Open in 2021, and now she can do so again. Were her victories over Catherine Harrison, Kaia Kanepi, Clara Burel and Danielle Collins convincing enough?
