Tennis Tips today – Matches today from 24.08.
While one or two players are still in Winston-Salem, others have already made their way to New York. The US Open is about to start, at least once the qualifying!
Some well-known names are not allowed directly into the main draw, on Wednesday we will also meet some starters from Germany and Austria. Who of them will make it into the actual competition?
Today’s schedule deals, among other things, with the performances of Jan-Lennard Struff and Daniel Masur, who have to cope with exhausting additional tasks.
Will Gerald Melzer be able to keep up? And what about the duel Germany vs. Austria, when Sebastian Ofner and Yannick Hanfmann meet directly? It won’t be easy for anyone.

Tennis tips today – 24.08.2022
For Daniel Masur, a main draw appearance at the US Open would be a great success. But he is still a long way off, his first step would be a win against Elias Ymer from Sweden, one of the best in qualifying.
For Gerald Melzer it should also be a challenging task, because with Jozef Kovalik he gets a demanding rival. One who is also in the lead with the bookmakers.
Not everyone expects the names Henri Laaksonen and Pedro Sousa in the US Open qualifiers, but this time both have to play an extra round. For whom does it hold a happier outcome?
Jan-Lennard Struff also has to go through qualifying after a long injury. The former second best tennis player in Germany has to face local hero Bradley Klahn.
The winner will definitely speak German, that is clear in the duel between Sebastian Ofner and Yannick Hanfmann. But maybe the winner will also have an Austrian accent, the odds are very close in any case.
Tennis tips today broadcast: Where are the matches on 24.08.?
While the US Open can of course be watched live on TV, the qualifying is a different story. You have to be able to fall back on the streaming service discovery+ if you don’t want to miss anything before the main draw.
Tennis tips today 24.08.: Daniel Masur – Elias Ymer (18:20 Uhr)
27 years old now, Daniel Masur is still waiting to play in the main draw at the US Open. The world number 158 has only played in Challengers since his elimination in the Wimbledon qualifiers.
He did reach the semi-finals twice, but since the opponents in these tournaments were by no means big names, I wouldn’t put too much stock in these results. By the way, he met Elias Ymer in the qualifiers of Indian Wells this year.
Masur won narrowly 6-4, 7-5. Overall, the German is 2-1 in qualifying, all three matches were very close. With odds of 1.50 to 2.40, Ymer is still far ahead. Has he been convincing in recent weeks?
Admittedly, the results were somewhat better than Masur’s, mainly because the opponents were much more demanding. Daniel Altmaier, for example, he defeated a few weeks ago.
Our expert tip: Win Ymer
Tennis tips today 24.08.: Gerald Melzer – Jozef Kovalik (17:00)
Number 187 against number 193? When Jozef Kovalik and Gerald Melzer meet on Wednesday, it should be close. 1,55 to 2,20, according to the bookmakers, but the Czech is in front.
Melzer’s performances have been at a very manageable level for months. After he had to retire injured in Kitzbühel, he did not get past the 1st round in the most recent tournament.
Kovalik, who has never played against Melzer, was a little better, but he could not achieve any big successes or real surprises either. Most recently in Wimbledon he failed directly in the qualifying round.
After all, he has been in the main draw in New York a couple of times, but for Gerald Melzer it would be a real premiere. Maybe the odds are in favour of Kovalik because of his experience?
Our Expert Tip: Over 22.5 Games
Tennis tips today 24.08.: Henri Laaksonen – Pedro Sousa (22:05 Uhr)
As the No. 3 seed in qualifying, Henri Laaksonen’s only goal, of course, is to reach the main draw in New York. The Swiss is ahead with odds of 1.25 to 3.50, here one could well have expected more significant differences.
His opponent Pedro Sousa is ranked 555th in the world! The two have never played against each other. The Portuguese reached the main round of the US Open only once two years ago, while Laaksonen reached round 3 in 2021.
The favourite failed early in Cincinnati but also had a very strong opponent in Alex de Minaur. Since the Challenger in Braunschweig, played at the beginning of July, where he reached the semi-finals, he has not won in the main draw at all!
And Sousa? He collected his last win outside the qualification at the end of March! So here two players meet who are both looking for their form. At least for one of them there will be a happy ending.
Our Expert Tip: 2:0 Laaksonen
Tennis tips today 24.08.: Bradley Klahn – Lan-Lennard Struff (19:35 Uhr)
The number 836 in the world competes in the US Open qualifying – the already 32-year-old Bradley Klahn is probably one of the biggest underdogs ever! 5.60 to 1.10, his odds read accordingly.
His opponent will be: Jan-Lennard Struff. After many injuries, he has slipped into the top 100 and must therefore first recommend himself for the main draw. It has been seven years since he had to miss the main competition.
But: For Klahn, this moment also took place a few years ago, in 2017 to be precise. After Struff narrowly failed to beat Carlos Alcaraz in five sets at Wimbledon, he could not quite maintain this form.
Recently, he only managed one win per tournament. Competitor Klahn always tried to be among the best, but I can’t find a success in the main draw at all in the recent past.
Our expert tip: Over 19.5 Games
Tennis tips today 24.08.: Sebastian Ofner – Yannick Hanfmann (18:20 Uhr)
How confident is Yannick Hanfmann serving at this US Open? Although he is almost 70 places ahead of Sebastian Ofner, the odds are relatively close at 1.80 to 1.95. By the way, the two have already met four times away from the main draw.
The score is 2:2, but the most recent duel went to the German at the French Open 2019. Last year, Hanfmann made it to the main draw, but also slipped directly into the tableau of the best.
His most recent performances have been highly variable; he lost to Daniel Misolic in the semi-finals in Kitzbühel. Ofner, on the other hand, narrowly missed out on Dominic Thiem.
The two Challengers he has played since then have been very mixed, with only one victory. For him, the main draw in New York would be an absolute premiere, so he doesn’t have much experience here.
Our expert tip: 3 sets
