Tennis Tips today – Matches today from 19.08.
They are on, the last days before the US Open 2022! At the Cincinnati Masters, eight top stars have come together to play the participants for the two semi-finals this Friday.
The list of participants is quite prominent, because besides the number 1, Daniil Medvedev, we also welcome Stefanos Tsitsipas and Carlos Alcaraz! For the fans, it is especially nice that two local heroes, John Isner and Taylor Fritz, will also be competing.
The matches are all top class, and in some of them it is immensely difficult to even say who is the favourite. The last few tournaments have shown: In the world class, anyone can beat anyone nowadays.

Daniil Medvedev knows: If my performance curve doesn’t go up, I won’t play a major role in New York. Although he is in the quarter-finals, he has not really been able to convince so far. Taylor Fritz will therefore not be without a chance on Friday.
Stefanos Tsitsipas also has the goal in Cincinnati to get in shape for the US Open. In the quarter-finals, his service will be the main focus, as he will be facing a strong man in John Isner.
For Carlos Alcaraz, things are finally looking up again after difficult weeks. He seems to have got his nerves under control, now he has to confirm that he is the clear favourite against Cameron Norrie.
If there is an outsider in these quarter-finals, it will go by the name of Borna Coric. But surely whoever beats Rafael Nadal will also be able to sell himself dearly against Felix Auger-Aliassime?

Is he in stable form now – or not after all? With Daniil Medvedev, you don’t really know where he stands this year. After the Los Cabos title, he already failed in the 1st round in Montreal.
In Cincinnati he is now in the quarter-finals, but if you take a closer look at the results, nothing went like clockwork. First he won 6-4, 6-5 against Botic van de Zandschulp, then he had a hard time against Denis Shapovalov.
He got to 7-5, 7-5 with three breaks in 13 chances, but it was no hint to the competition. With odds of 1.50 to 2.60, he is still the favourite against Taylor Fritz in the first direct duel.
The US American had won surprisingly clearly against Sebastian Baez and Nick Kyrgios, against Andrey Rublev he was a bit shaky. 6-7, 6-2, 7-5, it was close. But: Fritz has not yet had to accept a single break in Cincinnati!

After two poor tournaments, Stefanos Tsitsipas is finally looking to bring his full potential back onto the court. Filip Krajinovic and Diego Schwartzman were his first two victims, couldn’t stop him.
He beat both opponents outright, but had he not only taken five of 14 break chances against Schwartzman, he might have finished even earlier. 68% won points on the first serve? Needs improvement…
Against John Isner, Tsitsipas is ahead at 1.30 to 3.50, he will need perfect service. The king of aces has needed three sets in all his three matches, three wins with only TWO breaks, actually incredible!
Benjamin Bonzi, Hubert Hurkacz and Sebastian Korda were defeated, each losing the second set. Interesting and typical at the same time: Five of the six sets won went into a tiebreak! Six times he played Tsitsipas, there were eight tiebreaks. For the last four duels, however, only the Greek has won.

Lost two finals, then a 1st round exit – will Carlos Alcaraz be on top once again in Cincinnati? The Spaniard has played his way through the tournament so far with aplomb, not losing a set.
Mackenzie McDonald (6-3, 6-2) and Marin Cilic (7-6, 6-1) were his losers, in both matches he won well over 80% of his first serve points. He will now face Cameron Norrie, against whom he has won all three of his previous encounters, two of them this year.
1.30 to 3.30, the bookies trust Alcaraz once before. Cameron Norrie, however, is in excellent form at the moment. After his semi-final at Wimbledon, he reached the final in Los Cabos, only failing to beat Felix Auger-Aliassime in Montreal.
In Cincinnati, too, he is getting better from match to match. After a tough battle against Holger Rune, he prevailed against compatriot Andy Murray, and against the surprise man Ben Shelton he came to a quick 6-0, 6-2.

World number 152 in the Cincinnati quarter-finals? Borna Coric is the sensation of the tournament – and not just because he knocked out Rafael Nadal. Not only because Lorenzo Musetti was also knocked out.
The Croatian saved his strongest victory for the round of 16. He triumphed 6-2, 6-3 against Roberto Bautista Agut and caused a real sensation. He only allowed two breaks in his three games.
Three years ago, both he and Felix Auger-Aliassime won a direct duel. This time the bookies see the Canadian in the lead with 1.50 to 2.50. Whoever beats Alex de Minaur and Jannik Sinner will of course be in high demand.
Auger-Aliassime went from strength to strength in his 2-6, 7-6, 6-1 loss to Sinner, but it would still be the first time ever this year that he has finished in the top four at a major Masters.
