For Felix Auger-Aliassime, the last few tournaments have been very mixed, so it will be all the more difficult for him against Alex de Minaur on Wednesday. Although he has had problems against strong opponents recently, he is the favourite here.
With Hubert Hurkacz and John Isner, two giants meet in this 2nd round who are known for their service. Will there be one who will be far superior to the other in the direct duel?
One of the top favourites, Stefanos Tsitsipas, will only enter the tournament on Wednesday. The task: Don’t make a fool of yourself like in Montreal! A win is needed, and Filip Krajinovic definitely sounds beatable.
Things have been going wonderfully for Nick Kyrgios for months. Now, however, the draw has given him an opponent you don’t just beat in passing: Taylor Fritz! The bookmakers are also expecting a close result here.

A British duel, clear cut? Andy Murray and Cameron Norrie meet on Wednesday with odds of 2.90 to 1.40. Looking at the 1st round, both should be incredibly tired.
Murray won 7-6, 5-7, 7-5 against Stan Wawrinka, while his colleague Norrie picked up a 7-6, 4-6, 6-4 win over Holger Rune. After these thrillers, both will probably have wished for a slightly longer break, especially the 35-year-old Murray.
He hasn’t been in such good form since a few tournaments, failing twice in the 1st round recently. But Cincinnati should suit him, because he has already won the title here twice. He triumphed in 2008 and 2011, when Norrie was far from being a professional.
The world number 12 is difficult to beat at the moment. After the semi-finals at Wimbledon, he lost a final to Daniil Medvedev, and more recently he was eliminated by Felix Auger-Aliassime. Big names Murray can’t quite keep up with.

Is Felix Auger-Aliassime finally getting back into more stable form in very small steps? After the embarrassment of Wimbledon, he recently avoided early eliminations, but the results also show defeats without a chance.
In Montreal, he defeated Cameron Norrie, but whoever goes down 1-6, 2-6 on hard court against the clay specialist Casper Ruud will definitely not be seen as a co-favourite at the US Open.
1.75 to 2.00? The recently 22-year-old Canadian is nevertheless slightly favoured in the first main draw duel against Alex de Minaur. His opponent has already had to play one match and won clearly 6-2, 6-2 against Henri Laaksonen.
After his triumph at the Atlanta Open, his performances fluctuated, most recently in Montreal he was unlucky to quickly meet Nick Kyrgios. By the way, de Minaur didn’t give up a single break chance against Laaksonen!

First they stood side by side on the court, now one is switching sides! Hubert Hurkacz and John Isner were eliminated together in doubles, and on Wednesday one of them will have to leave altogether.
The king of aces has won both direct duels, none under 20 games, of course. Two years ago, Isner even won at the Cincinnati Masters. After his 7-6, 3-6, 7-6 against Benjamin Bonzi in Round 1, a typical result, he may well have needed a break.
31 aces, 91% won balls on first serve, but: not a single break chance for the giant! Hurkacz is just getting into the tournament. He had to admit defeat to Pablo Carreno Busta in the final in Canada, but still gained confidence.
Wins against Nick Kyrgios and Casper Ruud were strong. What was interesting here was that he never got through in two sets in the entire tournament. 1.45 to 2.70, with these values he goes into the match against his buddy John Isner as the favourite.

Tennis tips today 17.08.: Stefanos Tsitsipas – Filip Krajinovic (19:40)
The 3rd round of Wimbledon was already a bit of a low point for Stefanos Tsitsipas, but what happened in Montreal surprised even the experts. After the 5-7, 6-7 against Jack Draper in the 1st round, everyone was puzzled about the drop in performance.
The Greek wants to win his first Grand Slam at all costs, but he has to make a strong showing at the Cincinnati Masters. The last two times he reached the semi-finals here, now Filip Krajinovic has to be defeated first.
With odds of 1.20 to 4.30, he is clearly ahead. But: The Serb won the most recent of three direct comparisons! Krajinovic started with a quite confident 6-3, 6-4 against Daniel Evans, against whom he was eliminated in round 1 in Montreal.
Since losing the Queens final before Wimbledon, Krajinovic has not managed to win two matches at a tournament. It would be a big surprise if he could do that now against Tsitsipas.

Tennis tips today 17.08.: Taylor Fritz – Nick Kyrgios (20:15 Uhr)
What a demonstration! Although Taylor Fritz definitely had to struggle with problems and too early eliminations in the last weeks, he delivered a real brilliant performance in the 1st round of Cincinnati.
He beat Sebastian Baez 6-1, 6-1 and sent an exclamation mark to Nick Kyrgios. For the first time he will meet the Australian, two immensely strong-serving players will face each other.
The odds are slightly in Kyrgios’ favour, averaging 1.60 to 2.30. His 7-5, 6-4 win over Alejandro Davidovich-Fokina was a little less commanding than many had expected. He conceded five break chances to his opponent, but still fended off three.
With 71% of points won on his first serve, he remained clearly below what he is actually capable of. He will have to do better against Fritz, as both have very similar strengths.
