Tennis Tips today – Matches today from 03.08.
Top tennis in the USA, even before the start of the fourth and final Grand Slam tournament! Before the world’s elite move on to New York, they are preparing in Washington these days.
The list of participants is high-ranking, but the last few months have shown: Even outsiders can stand at the top of the podium at any time. At the Citi Open, the schedule for Wednesday includes some highlights.
In our tennis tips today, we look at Taylor Fritz, for example, who is one of the big favourites for the title. The crowd should support him loudly, and the same goes for the strong-serving Reilly Opelka.
It will also be interesting to see how top talent Holger Rune will do, as there has been some discussion about him lately. Jannik Sinner, Nick Kyrgios and Alexander Zverev, the recent winners of this tournament read more than high ranking.

Tennis tips today – 03.08.2022
Aslan Karatsev knows: “With my current performances, I won’t achieve much at the US Open. The Russian urgently needs to improve, Mikael Ymer could perhaps become a stumbling block in the 1st round.
Reilly Opelka is always a must, especially when the tournaments take place at home. The giant wants to hit aces without end again and not be stopped by compatriot Denis Kudla.
One of the big favourites is Taylor Fritz. He is still a bit too inconsistent, but in the meantime he can beat any opponent. Alexei Popyrin is one of those with whom he should have no problems.
For Grigor Dimitrov, it is the first appearance after his Wimbledon withdrawal, so the Bulgarian is likely to be out of rhythm. With Adrian Mannarino, he will have an opponent who is by no means easy to play against.
One of the biggest talents comes from Denmark and goes by the name of Holger Rune. After strong months, things haven’t been going so well lately. He should therefore not allow himself a defeat against Benoit Paire.
Tennis tips today broadcast: Where are the matches on 03.08.?
As preparations for the US Open get underway, Sky naturally wants to be there live. Fans should be looking forward to seeing some matches broadcast, at least if the time difference gets them out of bed early enough.
Tennis tips today 03.08.: Aslan Karatsev – Mikael Ymer (03:20 Uhr)
Taking on Andy Murray in a feat of strength takes a lot. Mikael Ymer was considered a clear underdog, so his 7-6, 4-6, 6-1 was all the more impressive. Especially in the last set he completely turned up the heat.
On Wednesday he is again the underdog, but with 2.30 to 1.60 the odds are not too far apart. The last time the Swede won two matches in one tournament was at the 2022 French Open.
Will Aslan Karatsev be strong enough to prevent a repeat? The Russian is definitely under pressure in the first direct duel. Karatsev, seeded 15th, only starts the tournament on Wednesday.
In Kitzbühel he lost directly to Dusan Lajovic, in Bastad and Hamburg he won two matches. By the way, there has never been a Russian champion here in Washington.
Our Expert Tip: Over 22.5 Games
Tennis tips today 03.08.: Denis Kudla – Reilly Opelka (05:00 h)
Can Reilly Opelka finally go all the way in Washington? He’s never won two games in a row here, starting with his match against Denis Kudla on Wednesday. 1.50 to 2.50, the favourite is not far ahead.
The 24-year-old is everything at the moment, but definitely not in top form. Three times in a row he was knocked out in the first round, in Wimbledon it was the end of the line after match number two against Tim van Rijthoven. In Atlanta, Opelka withdrew at short notice.
So is he fit enough again? Denis Kudla may be far behind him in the rankings, but he has already reached the quarter-finals twice in Washington. Last year he knocked out two really strong players, Taylor Fritz and Brandon Nakashima.
In his opener a few hours ago, he had to tremble quite a bit, losing the first set against Michael Mmoh 1-6. But Kudla pulled himself together and won 6-3, 6-4 to reach the second round.
Our expert tip: Kudla to win
Tennis tips today 03.08.: Taylor Fritz – Alexei Popyrin (01:00 h)
How did Taylor Fritz take the painful defeat after hours of struggle against Rafael Nadal? The American was knocked out in the quarter-finals of Wimbledon, but actually deserved to advance.
The tournament in Washington has not suited him at all so far, he has only collected two wins in total. Fritz is strong in the service game, but Alexei Popyrin, who is also 1.96m tall, is waiting for him.
With odds of 1.10 to 5.50 on average, Fritz is clearly ahead. His rival has already made his first appearance of Washington, it turned out to be a very short one. Wu Tung-lin had to retire at 3-3.
Three times in a row the 23-year-old failed in the first round, but at least that can’t happen to him now. This is also his best result in Washington, where he had never made it past the first round.
Our expert tip: 2:1 Fritz
Tennis tips today 03.08.: Grigor Dimitrov – Adrian Mannarino (19:15)
His best performance here was a long time ago, nine years ago he lost in the quarter-finals to a certain Tommy Haas! Against his current opponent Adrian Mannarino it went quite well, all three duels were won.
Two games were very close, the third and most recent one was won by Dimitrov because Mannarino had to retire. On Wednesday, the bookmakers favour him with odds of 1.30 to 3.00 – so not too clear.
The Frenchman got off to a flying start in Washington with a very commanding 6-2, 6-4 win over Bradley Klahn, and now he hopes not to fall at the second hurdle in this tournament for the third time in a row.
His quarter-final in Atlanta was quite respectable, but against Alex de Minaur he could not keep up after winning the first set. Can the 34-year-old now surprise Dimitrov?
Our Expert Tip: Under 0.5 tiebreaks
Tennis tips today 03.08.: Holger Rune – Benoit Paire (20:35)
How much does Benoir Paire fancy the tournament in Washington? Whether it’s brilliant performances or listless games, you never really know what you’re going to get with him. After all, he has already made it into the top eight twice at the Citi Open.
In this year’s opener, he had a lot of trouble, but was able to defeat Peter Gojowczyk in the end 7-5, 6-4. He only allowed one break and won 79% of the points on his first serve.
With odds of 3.60 to 1.25, he is clearly behind against Holger Runde. The Dane has been in an absolute slump for weeks. He reached the quarter-finals at the French Open, but since then nothing has been going right.
In the meantime, he has accumulated six tournaments, which he has left directly after the first round. That he is so clearly favoured going into his duel with Benoit Paire therefore comes as something of a surprise.
Our Expert Tip: Over 20.5 Games
