Tennis Tips Today – Matches Today 23.04.
It’s getting serious at various venues across Europe as various tennis tournaments head towards the grand finals on Sunday. In the men’s singles, the attack will be in Belgrade and Barcelona, in the women’s singles in Stuttgart.
The home fans in Belgrade are naturally hoping that grandmaster Novak Djokovic will regain his composure. He has been in the semi-finals before, but his faltering performances cast doubt on whether he will actually make it to the final.
Oscar Otte is the last German to be eliminated in the quarter-finals, unfortunately. There is no more black-red-gold in Barcelona either, but several international superstars are playing here, not least Stefanos Tsitsipas.
The rain has really shaken up the schedule, and since the matches are played outdoors, the breaks between the matches are shorter. At the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix in Stuttgart, however, the roof is closed.
Tennis tips today – 23.04.2022 preview
The star of the tournament must deliver! The two tournaments Novak Djokovic has played in 2022 have been anything but successful. In Belgrade, he struggles from victory to victory, meets Karen Khachanov in the semi-finals, favoured.
The second duel for the final will be between Fabio Fognini and Andrey Rublev. While Fognini eliminated Oscar Otte, the Russian is improving his form again. With odds of 1.50 to 2.40, he is ahead with the bookmakers.
In Stuttgart it was actually clear that with nine out of ten top 10 players only firecrackers would be seen in the semi-finals. The match between Aryna Sabalenka and Paula Badosa is indeed a top match, there is no favourite here!
For many experts, the title at the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix only goes through her: Iga Swiatek, the new world number 1. The Pole is very confident, you couldn’t be more clearly favoured against Ludmila Samsonova.
In Barcelona, the fans naturally hope to see one of their top stars crowned the winner. Carlos Alcaraz has overcome his weak phase and is eager to make the final against Alex de Minaur.
Tennis tips today broadcast: Where are the matches on 23.04.?
If there are several tournaments on at the same time, it is advisable to take a look at the channels responsible for broadcasting. Sky Sport has the rallies in Belgrade on offer. The same applies to the ATP tournament in Barcelona. Since the broadcaster is fully occupied with this, the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix will move over to Sky.
Tennis tips today 23.04.: Novak Djokovic – Karen Khachanov (14:00)
While most of the tennis world’s top stars are currently in Barcelona, Novak Djokovic prefers to compete at home in Belgrade. The competition is manageable and yet the world number 1 is struggling.
So far, he has had to play his compatriots twice, and a loss would not have been undeserved. He lost the first set against Laslo Djere as well as against Miomir Kecmanovic, but won the following two sets.
Some voices have already been raised that the two should have let their colleague win. Djokovic is far from his best form, but is still ahead against Karen Khachanov with odds of 1.25 to 3.75.
The Russian benefited from Safiullin’s retirement, so won his first match 7-5, 6-4 against Thiago Monteiro. Three first-round eliminations in Miami, Monte Carlo and Indian Wells showed that he is not in the best of shape. At 5-1, the direct record is also clearly in Djokovic’s favour; a few weeks ago in Dubai, the Djoker won 6-3, 7-6.
Our Expert Tip: Over 19.5 Games
Tennis tips today 23.04: Fabio Fognini vs Andrey Rublev (15:20)
Fabio Fognini and Andrey Rublev are not celebrating a premiere – the semi-final in Belgrade will be their tenth direct duel! The fact that the Italian leads 5:4 sounds positive, but Rublev has won the last three matches.
Fognini, who is ten years older, has beaten Marco Cecchinato, Aljaz Bedene and Oscar Otte, losing only the first set of the tournament. In the quarter-finals, he benefited above all from his strong second serve.
Rublev, on the other hand, got in later and has only played two matches. He has one thing in common with Fognini: the very first set went wrong, in this case against Jiri Lehecka at 4-6, 7-6, 6-2.
He got stronger with every shot, showing the improvement in the following 6-3, 6-3 against Taro Daniel. Looking for a third tournament win in 2022, he goes into his Belgrade debut with odds of 1.50 to 2.40 on Fognini.
Our Expert Tip: Win Rublev
Tennis tips today 23.04: Aryna Sabalenka – Paula Badosa (14:00)
When the world number 3 meets the number 4, excitement is guaranteed. In Stuttgart, Aryna Sabalenka fought her way into the semi-finals, and did so in her typical style. The Belarussian is known for three-setters, and now Swabia is experiencing that as well.
She lost the second set against Bianca Andreescu as well as against Anett Kontaveit, only to come up big again afterwards (6-1, 3-6, 6-2 as well as 6-4, 3-6, 6-1). Her weak performances in the last tournaments are forgotten for the time being.
Paula Badosa, who seems to be fit again after being out of Miami due to injury, has also already had a tough fight. 6-2, 4-6, 7-6 against Elena Rybakina and 7-6, 1-6, 6-3 against Ons Jabeur, the course of the matches strongly reminds of Sabalenka.
Last year, the two met twice, the Spaniard securing two victories. Once she won smoothly and clearly, the other time it was much closer. For Saturday, the bookmakers have no favourite at odds of 1.90!
Our expert tip: 2:1 Badosa
Tennis tips today 23.04: Iga Swiatek – Ludmila Samsonova (16:00)
Is she storming towards the title in Stuttgart without much trouble? Iga Swiatek is proving impressively that she is rightly the new number 1 in the world rankings. The Pole left no stone unturned at the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix.
After her 6-1, 6-1 against Eva Lys, she showed hardly any weaknesses against Emma Raducano, even if the 6-4, 6-4 was much closer. She allowed one break per match, which was strong.
Qatar, Indian Wells and Miami, she could win her fourth title in a row on Sunday if she reaches the final. With odds of 1.08 to 8.00, she is the clear favourite against Ludmila Samsonova.
The Russian threw out local hero Laura Siegemund in two sets (7-5, 6-3), and had previously also won smoothly against Karolina Pliskova and Chloe Paquet. The world number 31 will now meet Swiatek for the first time.
Our Expert Tip: Under 19.5 Games
Tennis tips today 23.04: Carlos Alcaraz – Alex de Minaur (16:00)
With Rafael Nadal already out injured, maybe Carlos Alcaraz can step into the breach? The crowd in Barcelona wants to see the 18-year-old on top, and he was the top favourite from the start.
Since he won 6-4, 5-7, 6-2 against Stefanos Tsitsipas in the quarter-finals, he is also ahead in the semi-finals against Alex de Minaur, the odds create a 1.10 to 6.90. The youngster already threw out Jaume Munar and Soon-woo Kwon.
In his very first duel against Alcarez, the Australian can only win, because nobody expects him to win. After his 3-set win over Ugo Humbert, Lloyd Harris retired after a 0-6 in set 1, then Cameron Norrie was waiting.
6-3, 5-7, 6-1, with the exception of the second set, de Minaur played a fantastic match. His only weakness was that he only used seven of his 20 break chances. It’s only significant that no matter how well he plays in 2022, it’s not enough against the absolute top stars.
Our expert tip: 2:0 Alcaraz
