Tennis Tips Today – Matches Today 20.04.

The tennis stars have just over a month to prepare for the French Open 2022. So from now on, it’s all about pushing the form on clay. Women and men are on the road on the red clay these days.

The men’s tournament in Barcelona is the main focus. After Carlos Alcaraz surprisingly failed early in Monte Carlo, he wants to perform differently in his home country.

Some of the top stars will be there, including Stefanos Tsitsipas, the Monte Carlo champion, who will start his programme in Barcelona on Wednesday. We will have to do without German participants, because Alexander Zverev is already preparing for his start in Munich.

The German ladies are also hoping for a home advantage. At the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix in Stuttgart, Angelique Kerber in particular wants to show that the year 2022 does have successful moments in store for her. However, the bad luck of the draw struck right away.

Tennis tips today – 20.04.2022 preview

In Stuttgart, the focus is already on the courts from the morning onwards, as there are of course several starters in black-red-gold at the German tournament. Laura Siegemund, who has already won here once, will face a tough opponent in Tamara Zidansek.

This was also the case for Angelique Kerber at the draw. 2022 has not been her year so far, so it is unfavourable that she has to face Anett Kontaveit in front of her home crowd – and is considered an underdog.

In the past, this match would have been an absolute blast: Petra Kvitova meets Karolina Pliskova! The two Czech women are not in top form, yet the bookmakers expect a close duel without a real favourite.

While the women are serving in Stuttgart, some of the top stars in the men’s singles have travelled to Barcelona. Carlos Alcaraz wants to triumph at home, the Korean Kwon Soon-woo should not be a stumbling block.

That Stefanos Tsitsipas is one of the very best on clay is not only known since his victory in Monte Carlo. In Barcelona, he will start with a duel against XXX and is naturally favoured.

Tennis tips today broadcast: Where are the matches on 20.04.?

The Sky team will be at the ATP 500 tournament in Barcelona and you can follow the rallies on Sky Sport6. Those who want to watch in Stuttgart, on the other hand, can only join in from 5 p.m. on Eurosport 1.

Tennis tips today 20.04.: Laura Siegemund – Tamara Zidansek (19:45)

Laura Siegemund knows how to surprise the world’s elite as a local hero, but can she actually do it in 2022? At her home tournament in Stuttgart, the 34-year-old reached the final in 2016 and 2017 and even triumphed once.

She prefers to play on clay, but her current form doesn’t exactly suggest that she can make it big in Stuttgart. She won the doubles in Miami but was taught a lesson in singles early on.

Since returning from a long injury in February, she has only been convincing when she doesn’t have to play alone. Siegemund lost the only previous match against her current opponent Tamara Zidansek four years ago in two sets.

The Slovenian is far ahead in the world rankings and is now making her debut in Stuttgart. After the Australian Open she failed twice in round 1, so she is not in top form either. However, since she often plays big at the French Open, her strength on clay is well known.

Our expert tip: 2:0 Zidansek

Tennis tips today 20.04: Petra Kvitova vs Karolina Pliskova (12:30pm)

How strong is the 2019 PTGP winner? Petra Kvitova the world number 28, has shown fluctuating performances of late. After her first-round blunder at the Australian Open, she almost only failed to win against strong competition.

A few days ago in Charleston she had to retire injured in her first round, but is now said to be fit again. Of course, she would not have expected to meet her compatriot Karolina Pliskova right from the start in Stuttgart.

Kvitova leads the direct duel 3:1, but lost the most recent one and has not played Pliskova for three and a half years. Although Pliskova is ranked seventh in the rankings, she is a slight underdog with the bookmakers.

She already triumphed in the Swabian metropolis in 2018. The 30-year-old has not covered herself in glory, winning only one match in Indian Wells, Miami and Charleston, her three tournaments in 2022.

Our Expert Tip: Over 19.5 Games

Tennis tips today 20.04: Anett Kontaveit – Angelique Kerber (18:30)

The world No. 6 to open in Stuttgart, Angelique Kerber had quite certainly imagined the draw to be different. The year 2022 has not been going smoothly so far, which was also evident in Miami when she was knocked out in Round 1.

The only time Keber won two matches was in Indian Wells, where she even took a set from Iga Swiatek. The Porsche Tennis Grand Prix has already brought her light and shade, triumphs and early defeats are close together for her here.

The fact that Anett Kontaveit has made it to at least the quarter-finals every time she has played in Stuttgart is unlikely to please her, however. The Estonian played an incredibly strong February, but fell off again a bit recently.

She has played Kerber five times so far, with four wins. No wonder that she is in the lead at the bookmakers with odds of 1.35 to 3.20. Four years ago there was the duel in Stuttgart, which the German gave up in the second set.

Our expert tip: Win Kontaveit

Tennis tips today 20.04: Soon-woo Kwon – Carlos Alcaraz (16:00)

The celebrated youngster Carlos Alcaraz had to realise a few days ago: Defeats are also part of the concert of the greats. After his disgrace in Monte Carlo, the 18-year-old wants to bounce back quickly.

After an elimination in the qualification and a lost match in the 1st round, his third participation in Barcelona should be completely different. 1.05 to 8.70 – Alcaraz could not be more clearly favoured.

His opponent, Soon-woo Kwon, unlike him, has already entered the tournament. He was quite convincing in his 6-4, 6-4 win over Benoit Paire, conceding only one of his two break chances.

The Korean, who almost beat Denis Shapovalov at the Australian Open, should not be a stumbling block for Alcaraz, however, because in his last appearances his performances were always extremely manageable.

Our Expert Tip: Under 20.5 Games

Tennis tips today 20.04: Stefanos Tsitsipas – Ilya Ivashka (17:20)

In 2018 and 2021, he has already reached the final in the Catalan capital, but lost both times to Rafael Nadal. With the Spaniard not competing this time, that cannot happen to Tsitsipas again.

In Rotterdam a few weeks ago, he won the first duel with Ilya Ivashka easily and clearly, and the bookmakers are clearly favouring him this time as well with odds of 1.08 to 7.60.

The Belarusian has already made his first appearance in Barcelona, winning 6-4, 7-6 against Pedro Martinez. Ivashka’s last tournaments were anything but successful, mostly he was eliminated directly.

A year ago, he only made it to the second round of this tournament, but managed to win a set when he was eliminated by Rafael Nadal. Can he achieve the same feat against Stefanos Tsitsipas?

Our expert tip: 2:0 Tsitsipas
