Ben Shelton is seeded second and that alone makes him one of the favorites. On Thursday, however, he first has to get through his match against James Duckworth from Australia.

Tennis tips today 13.06.: James Duckworth – Ben Shelton (16:30)
Ben Shelton is seeded second in Stuttgart, so the US-American is only now entering the tournament. At the French Open, he was clearly defeated by Felix Auger-Aliassime in round 3, and things have not been going well since his tournament victory in Houston at the beginning of April.
James Duckworth, on the other hand, has already played three matches on the Neckar, having had to survive qualifying against Khumoyun Sultonov and Rudi Molleker. In the first round of the main draw, he finally triumphed 6-4, 7-6 over Pierre-Hugues Herbert.

Matteo Berrettini was once one of the best grass court players in the world, but several injuries set him back a long way. In 2019 and 2022, he was already at the top of the podium in Stuttgart, starting with a hard-fought 7-6, 5-7, 7-5 win against Roman Safiullin.
Today he will face Denis Shapovalov, who is just ahead with odds of 1.70 to 2.10. The Canadian also had great difficulty in the first round, winning 7-6, 7-5 against Matteo Martineau. In Surbiton a few weeks ago, he was defeated by Aleksandar Vukic right at the start.

His opponent Arthur Rinderknech also got off to a good start with a 6-4, 7-5 win against Alex Michelsen, but struggled a little despite the outright victory. He and Struff met once in 2023, with the Frenchman winning 6-4, 6-4 at the Challenger in Pau.

Richard Gasquet is 37 years old, in the late fall of his career he wants to convince once again in Stuttgart. He prevailed against Benjamin Bonzi in the qualifying, but was actually already out against Pierre-Hugues Herbert. After a refusal, he made it through in the end.
Now he will face Brandon Nakashima, with the Frenchman trailing at the odds of 3.00 to 1.35. Nakashima had beaten Christopher Eubanks 7-6, 6-4 in the first round, before that in Surbiton he had made quite a positive impression by reaching the semi-finals.
