Tennis Tips today – Matches today 12.04.

Indian Wells and Miami are history, the hard court is out of the calendar for the time being – the tennis circus is fully focused on the red clay! Monte Carlo will host one of three major Masters tournaments.

The absolute record winner: Rafael Nadal with an incredible eleven tournament victories. The Spaniard will not be competing this time, but perhaps his young compatriot Carlos Alcaraz can step into the breach again, as he did in Miami?

In addition to the 18-year-old, the appearance of Novak Djokovic, the world No. 1, who is finally allowed to take part in a tournament again, is especially expected. Together with Alcaraz, he is the top favourite for the title.

How does it look from the German point of view? Alexander Zverev is one of the extended group of favourites, but it is still unclear how he is actually on clay. In any case, we won’t find his favourite surface in Monte Carlo.

Tennis tips today – 12.04.2022 preview

Playing times in Monte Carlo are different from what we were used to in the USA. The matches are already being played here in the morning. If you want to watch not only Alexander Zverev, but also Oscar Otte’s performance against Emil Ruusuvuori, you have to be in front of the TV at 11.00 am.

Afterwards, the enfant terrible, Benoit Paire, will get into the action. The Frenchman has not been in top form lately, but will it be enough against Lorenzo Musetti? In any case, Musetti is the favourite.

Novak Djokovic has been training away from the public eye for weeks, and now he will play a strong opponent in only his second tournament in 2022. Alejandro Davidovich Fokina is the underdog, odds over 6.00 might be a bit too high due to Djokovic’s lack of rhythm.

Perhaps a second Serb, Dusan Lajovic, will also make it far? Grigor Dimitrov will be a tough opponent, who is also slightly favoured by the bookmakers. Here, however, the bookmakers expect an open battle.

With Stefanos Tsitsipas, one of the tournament favourites will also serve on Tuesday. He is even the defending champion, but funnily enough he caught Fabio Fognini, the 2019 champion, in the draw.

Tennis tips today broadcast: Where will the matches be played on 12.04?

With a 1000-team tournament, the allocation of TV rights was naturally a big issue. As in previous years, Sky has snapped up the broadcast. Sky Sport1 will start at 11.00 a.m., and from 16 April Sky Sport2 will also be involved. Of course, all the rallies can also be followed via Skygo.

Tennis tips today 12.04.: Emil Ruusuvuori – Oscar Otte (11:00 a.m.)

German fans would like to focus not only on Alexander Zverev, to that extent there are also certain hopes resting in Oscar Otte. The 28-year-old has had some bad luck with the draw in recent tournaments.

In Indian Wells he failed in three sets to Hubert Hurkacz, in Miami to Gael Monfils. His qualification in Monte Carlo, however, was unconvincing, regardless of the competitors.

He beat Valentin Vacherot very narrowly, losing to Jaume Munar in three sets. Especially the 0-6 in the first set was bitter. Emil Ruusuvuori, slightly favoured with odds of 1.70 to 2.20, would actually have faced Cristian Garin.

After Garin’s cancellation, Otte slipped into the main draw. The Finn was able to beat the two Italians Gianluca Mager and Flavio Cobolli in the qualifying. In Miami he had Jannik Sinner on the brink of defeat, so from the German point of view he is by no means a desired opponent.

Our Expert Tip: Win Ruusuvuori

Tennis tips today 12.04: Lorenzo Musetti vs Benoit Paire (12:30pm)

The world number 83 is the favourite against the number 61, that’s how it is in the Benoit Paire vs Lorenzo Musetti encounter. With the extroverted Frenchman, you never really know what you’re going to get.

Since he failed to beat Stefanos Tsitsipas in the 3rd round at the Australian Open, he has only won one match. So we can’t speak of top form here at all.

Musetti, on the other hand, recently reached the quarter-finals of the Grand Prix Hassan II, and his results in recent weeks have been somewhat better than Paire’s. By the way, the first direct duel took place in Florida in 2021.

The Italian won the match 6-3, 6-3. Is that why he is ahead with odds of 1.35 to 3.00? Both players start the tournament in Monte Carlo on Tuesday.

Tennis tips today 12.04: Novak Djokovic – Alejandro Fokina (14:00)

At last Novak Djokovic is allowed to play in a tournament once again! The missing Corona vaccination gives the world number 1 one forced break after the other. Only in Dubai was he allowed to compete in 2022.

There, he surprisingly lost early to Jiri Vesely. Things didn’t always go according to plan for him in Monte Carlo, where he triumphed in 2013 and 2015. Although he completely lacks rhythm, at the bookies a 1.10 to 6.70 speaks a clear language.

His opponent, Alejandro Davidovich Fokina, has lost both previous duels against the Djoker without a chance. He will be looking to tighten up the match on Tuesday, making his start at 7-5, 6-3 against Marcos Giron.

Five of 13 break chances used, such a rate should not happen to him against Djokovic. The Spaniard has only won one match in the last four tournaments, so you can’t speak of strong form.

Tennis tips today 12.04: Dusan Lajovic – Grigor Dimitrov (15:30)

A Serb in the final of Monte Carlo 2019, and it wasn’t Novak Djokovic! His compatriot Dusan Lajovic had a little stellar moment three years ago, but lost the final clearly to Fabio Fognini.

Will he be able to repeat this performance in 2022? With a 6-2, 7-6 win over Filip Kraijovic, his start was relatively confident. In Indian Wells and Miami he was eliminated directly, now he is one step further.

2.70 to 1.45, according to the bookies, he will have the slight disadvantage against Grigor Dimitrov. The Bulgarian only needed one set against Nikolos Bassilashvili because his opponent had to retire shortly after the start of the second.

Funnily enough, Dimitrov has always lost to Rafael Nadal in his last three appearances, so at least that can’t happen this time. After his recent quarter-final at Indian Wells, he wants to convince at this Masters as well.

Tennis tips today 12.04: Fabio Fognini – Stefanos Tsitsipas (15:30)

A 2-0 lead against Novak Djokovic, but a bitter defeat in the end – Stefanos Tsitsipas has been known for what he is capable of on clay, and not just since the recent French Open.

The Greek won the Masters in Monte Carlo against Andrey Rublev a year ago, and he is also one of the favourites for the title in 2022. For that, however, he has to play better than recently, round 3 and the round of 16 in Indian Wells and Miami were not enough for his own expectations.

Fabio Fognini, world number 32, is a strong opponent. Three years ago he could sensationally knock out Rafael Nadal and win in the end, on the red clay he is definitely to be taken into account.

However, Fognini has lost all three duels against Tsitsipas, only one set went to him. In his first round match in Monte Carlo, he had to fight hard to beat Arthur Rinderknecht 7-5, 4-6, 6-3, while Tsitsipas enjoyed a walk-through.
