Tennis Tips today – Matches today 06.04.
Countless local heroes, a few real top stars, only unfortunately no German participant – with these facts we start into Wednesday at the ATP tournament in Houston. Most of the matches in the first round were very close and therefore very exciting.
After Peter Gojowczyk’s early exit, the action is mainly concentrated on the top-seeded players, who are just starting after a walk-through. Some of them, such as Taylor Fritz, will not even play until tomorrow.
Also still in the race and always worth a small bet: Nick Kyrgios. With him, you never know exactly what he will bring to the court today. Since Houston is a relatively small tournament, the round of 16 is already on Wednesday.
Tennis tips today – 06.04.2022 Preview
With John Isner, one of the favourites gets into the action for the first time late on Wednesday afternoon German time. He will meet a compatriot in Steve Johnson, but is only slightly favoured by the bookmakers.
The bookmakers also find it difficult to assign the roles of favourites in the match between Michael Mmoh and Sam Querrey. Querrey is ahead, but since he had big problems in the 1st round, the difference is not too big.
What exactly is Nick Kyrgios up to? The Australian is one of the bookies’ top favourites, but he will be facing a rather challenging opponent in Tommy Paul. Nevertheless, the odds tend towards Kyrgios.
Is Reilly Opelka fit again? The US-American will play against compatriot Mitchell Krueger, who was eliminated in the first round after only one set. At 1.40 to 3.00, there is a lot to be said for Opelka here.
Tennis tips today broadcast: Where are the matches on 06.04.?
Admittedly, watching the matches in Houston is a bit more difficult than we were used to from the last two tournaments. The final can be seen there, but for all the previous matches fans have to subscribe to Tennis TV.
Tennis tips today 06.04.: Steve Johnson – John Isner (17:00)
Contesting: Two former winners! Steve Johnson has triumphed twice here in Houston, in 2017 and 2018, and John Isner knows what the title feels like too, but it’s been nine years since his victory.
Johnson is now ranked No. 108 in the world, having knocked out Denis Kudla in three sets in the 1st round. While in Miami he had to retire in the qualifying round, in Indian Wells he defeated Aslan Karatsev and sent Hubert Hurkacz into a tiebreak.
At 2.40 to 1.60, he is not far behind Isner, seeded No. 4. The 2.08m giant had disappointed in Miami in the singles, but won the doubles together with Hubert Hurkacz.
He thus achieved a double triumph, as he had already won this competition in Indian Wells. Tennis fans know, of course, that wherever John Isner serves, tiebreaks are not far away!
Our expert tip: Over 2.5 sets
Tennis tips tonight 06.04: Michael Mmoh vs Sam Querrey (21:00)
It’s going to be very American in the duel between Michael Mmoh and Sam Querrey. Neither of them has really covered themselves with glory lately. Mmoh has even slipped to 226th place in the world rankings.
He already showed big problems in the qualification. First he won when his opponent retired, then he lost to Mitchell Kruger, but still slipped into the main draw.
Sam Querrey, number 114 in the world, had considerable difficulties against Daniel Galan and won by a razor-thin margin 7-6, 3-6, 7-6. He probably did not like the nine double faults either.
He now actually meets Mmoh for the very first time. 1.70 to 2.10: The differences that the bookmakers show in their odds are so minimal that any outcome is probably possible here.
Our Expert Tip: Over 23.5 Games
Tennis tips today 06.04.: Nick Kyrgios – Tommy Paul (22:30 Uhr)
If you take a look at the title favourites, you first end up with Nick Kyrgios. The Australian is actually in great form, but too often ruins his own great performances, not least in Miami.
In Indian Wells and Miami, prestige was at play and he was served big opponents. In Houston, everything is now a bit smaller. He survived his first round against Mackenzie McDonald 4-6, 6-3, 6-4.
91% won points on the first serve, but only used two of eleven break chances, Kyrgios once again showed light and shadow. Tommy Paul, the seventh best player of the tournament, showed a similar performance.
6-7, 7-6, 3-2 – at this intermediate score against Peter Gojowczyk, Paul profited from the fact that the German had to retire. In Miami Paul had annoyed Taylor Fritz, in Indian Wells he had beaten Alexander Zverev – so on good days he is more than unpleasant.
Our Expert Tip: Win Kyrgios
Tennis tips tonight 07.04: Reilly Opelka – Mitchell Krueger (01:00 h)
Does anyone fancy tiebreaks, even after John Isner’s match? Good thing Reilly Opelka is also serving in Houston! In Indian Wells, he had Rafael Nadal on the brink of elimination, but narrowly lost both tiebreaks.
Then in Miami, the 2.13m tall American had to withdraw injured already in his first duel against Francisco Cerundolo. Will he be fit again for Houston? He has never made it to the finals here.
With Mitchell Krueger he gets a qualifier as an opponent. He won against Matthew Ebden and Michael Mmoh, his 1st round was done early at 5-1 against Juan Pablo Varillas after the latter retired.
The world number 161 was eliminated in the qualifying rounds in Miami and Indian Wells. If Reilly Opelka has a normal day, there should be no problem in the quarter-finals.
Our expert tip: Over 22.5 Games
