The dream of the German champion in Halle is getting closer for the many fans in black-red-gold! Although Alexander Zverev is not in the tournament, one of his compatriots is playing really well.
Oscar Otte is consistently showing his strong form, especially the home advantage helps him a lot. Now he would like to play a somewhat shorter match in the quarter-finals
In my Otte Khachanov tip, I therefore look for indications that underline Otte’s condition and prove why I am clearly leaning towards the German in terms of a betting tip!
A One Hit Wonder? Definitely not Oscar Otte! There have been flashes of the 28-year-old’s strength in recent years, but it’s only in 2022 that he seems to really hit form. He has never been better placed, the top 50 will soon be cracked.
After the semi-finals in Munich and Stuttgart, he is also aiming for the last four in Halle, one step away from it. He remains true to his recent line: close, tight results, with pleasure also with tiebreaks.
In Stuttgart, his only results were tiebreaks, he was eliminated 6-7, 6-7 by Matteo Berrettini in the semifinals. At the current tournament, it is his first participation in Halle, he does almost the same.
He started with a 7-6, 6-4 against Miomir Kecmanovic, winning 86% points on his first serve. Later, against Nikolos Bassilashvili, a somewhat curious result was on the scoreboard, showing various faces.
4-6, 6-0, 7-6, how would one like to explain three such different sets? 15 aces, but seven double faults, 87% won points on the first serve, but only 50% success rate, Otte presented light and shadow in equal measure.
Only once did he break Kecmanovic and Bassilashvili, definitely a key to success. Now he will play Karen Khachanov, and for the first time ever.
The Olympic silver medallist has had similar results in Halle. At the beginning he beat Aslan Karatsev 6-7, 6-1, 6-2, then he needed all his strength when he beat Laslo Djere 7-6, 6-4.
The Russian was slightly worse on serve and only used three of his ten break chances. In return, however, he only gave up three to Djere. Both games featured a tiebreak, which is quite similar to what Otte achieved.
Khachanov, seeded eighth, is well ahead of Otte in the rankings, but is he as consistent these weeks? In Hertogenbosch a few days ago he narrowly failed to beat Felix Auger-Aliassime, that could have happened to the German as well.
Twice Khachanov was eliminated in Halle in the quarter-finals, i.e. the next round, only in 2017 he had jumped the hurdle. This could be supported by the fact that he has already knocked out a German opponent in two editions.
My Otte Khachanov Tip
Oscar Otte showed once again in the round of 16 against Nikolos Bassilaschwili: I am Germany’s second best tennis player and I want to move up! The serve comes, a break is hardly conceded, the 28-year-old has never been as strong as he is at the moment.
Karen Khachanov is undoubtedly a good one who is also in form. Since both are known for close matches, I can really only guess:
