ATP Masters in Monte Carlo, Quarterfinals, Friday, 11.04.2025, 14:30
Three of the last four Monte Carlo Masters went to Greece – and now it’s time for Stefanos Tsitsipas’ favorite tournament! The serial winner will play his quarter-final on Friday and will have his work cut out here.
In my Musetti Tsitsipas tip, I will now tell you what the great love of Monte Carlo is all about and why I would therefore risk the bet that the victory in the round of the best eight will go to Tsitsipas.
2021, 2022, 2024 – that’s something to be proud of! Whenever Monte Carlo calls, Stefanos Tsitsipas is there. Somehow he has taken a shine to this Masters, where he achieves a lot that doesn’t work before or after.
The 26-year-old had already failed in Miami in the second round, and in Indian Wells, a round in the last sixteen was not exactly what he had hoped for either. You will also remember that Tsitsipas lost to Alex Michelsen in the first round at the Australian Open.
But now it’s time for Monte Carlo, which should help the Greek to gain confidence. He got off to a winning start with a 4-6, 6-4, 6-2 victory over Jordan Thompson, so he was able to look the elimination in the eye.
A little later, he breezed through his match against Nuno Borges, winning 6-1, 6-1 without having to push himself to the limit. Although only just over 50 percent of his first serves were successful, the victory was never in danger.
Tsitsipas has slipped to eighth place in the world rankings and wants to work his way back up. Historically speaking, there should be no doubt that Lorenzo Musetti should not be a stumbling block.
The two have played each other five times so far, with Tsitsipas winning all five duels. The last time they faced each other was in 2023, so it’s been quite a while since their most recent encounter.
There has already been a five-setter in Roland Garros, and Tsitsipas needed three sets two more times. Musetti almost always made life difficult for him, but has never been able to prevail.
And this time? Our tax-free betting providers are giving Tsitsipas favor in the game, with average odds of 1.60 to 2.50. So a victory for Musetti would not be a sensation.
Musetti is targeting the top 10 in the world rankings in 2025; he is currently ranked 16th. His class is undisputed, but the Italian regularly loses his nerve. He has already reached the quarterfinals in Monte Carlo in 2023, but lost to Jannik Sinner here.
This time, he has already played three matches, some of which were quite tough. In the first round, he only just managed to beat Bu Yunchaokete, an absolute outsider, 4-6, 7-5, 6-3.
He also had a difficult start against Jiri Lehecka, trailing 1-6, 7-5, 6-2, but managed to pull himself together in time. Besides, Lehecka is definitely not one of those opponents you would consider weak.
In the all-Italian clash with Matteo Berrettini, Musetti finally prevailed in the round of the last 16. 6-3, 6-3, so he managed a clear victory after all. He didn’t give up a single break, Berrettini didn’t even get a chance to do so.
Lehecka and Yunchaokete, on the other hand, both converted more than 50 percent of their break chances. How is Musetti’s form in general, how did the last tournaments go?
In Miami, he was knocked out in the round of 16 by Novak Djokovic, and in Indian Wells, he was knocked out early by Arthur Fils. In Monte Carlo, he has now managed to celebrate three victories in a row for the first time this year.
My Musetti Tsitsipas tip
Can Stefanos Tsitsipas continue to set the standard in Monte Carlo? The Greek simply feels comfortable here and he also completely convinced me in the round of 16. Lorenzo Musetti, as all tennis fans know, is basically good for any result.
The 23-year-old is always a complete mystery, and he was lucky not to be knocked out in the first two rounds of Monte Carlo. Since Tsitsipas likes the tournament so much, I quickly decided on the following bet:
Tsitsipas beats Musetti!
