ATP Tournament at Queen’s, Quarter Finals, Friday, 23.06.2023
They are two players of the “new generation”, two who want to achieve everything in the next 5 to 10 years! At the ATP tournament at London’s Queen’s Club, which is THE preparation tournament for Wimbledon, we will see a most interesting duel on Friday.
One is 20, the other 21, both are among the top 6 in the competition. The favourite is the one who has more title experience, not only at Bet365.
In my Musetti Rune tip, I will now reveal why I recommend betting on a tiebreaker for this match!
There is without a doubt nothing this man can’t do! Holger Rune, together with Carlos Alcaraz of course, is the future of tennis, although he still lacks a bit of coolness compared to the Spaniard.
The Dane does occasionally cause a stir, but from a purely sporting point of view, he inspires the clear majority. After his defeat by Casper Ruud in the quarter-finals of the French Open, he also has a lot of plans on the fast grass.
This is his first time at Queen’s Club and he showed two different faces in his first two matches. First, he had some difficulties against Maxime Cressy, winning narrowly 7-6, 7-6.
A match that was on a knife’s edge and could well have ended differently. Against Ryan Peniston, however, he returned to his usual aplomb, taking a 6-3, 6-4 lead.
One break allowed in both matches in total, the service is something to be proud of. The two tiebreaks against Cressy showed nerves of steel, something that was also evident in Paris a few weeks ago.
Three times he had to go into “extra time” of a set at the French Open and was always the stronger player there. He has never had a duel with Lorenzo Musetti before, so we will be experiencing a real premiere on Friday.
Both are young and have enough energy for an exhausting duel. If you believe our bookmakers, Rune should have the edge, the odds here come to 1,50 to 2,50.
Lorenzo Musetti will soon crack the top 15 in the world, but he is not quite up to the consistency of his next opponent. The Italian has already upset some greats this year, but then suddenly lost again to outsiders.
He had no chance against Carlos Alcaraz at the French Open, but started the grass-court season a little later in Stuttgart. The quarter-finals were the end of the line here, but he lacked the necessary bit of luck when he lost 7-6, 6-7, 6-2 to the eventual champion Frances Tiafoe.
All the more important now that he is there in the decisive moments in London. After a 6-4, 6-2 opening win over Jan Choinski, he faced a much more challenging opponent in Ben Shelton.
The match ended in three sets, with Musetti winning 6-4, 4-6, 6-4. He gave up one break in each of his two matches, and his serve has to be on point against Rune as well.
At least Musetti is already doing better in London than last year. In 2022 he retired during the 1st round against Alexander Bublik, now he has the chance to be among the top four.
My Musetti Rune Tip
Both Holger Rune and Lorenzo Musetti will be much enjoyed in the years to come, but who is the better player in the first direct duel? In 2023, the better results clearly belong to the Dane.
Musetti, however, is a most unpleasant rival. I expect both of them to give us an intense, close match. And since Rune is regularly strong-nerved in tiebreaks, my final bet is:
Rune and Musetti will play at least one tiebreak!
