The clay court season really gets underway with the Monte Carlo Masters 2022. The classic in the Principality is not only the first major clay court event, but also the third Masters1000 tournament of the year.

The tournament will take place from 10 to 17 April at the legendary Monte Carlo Country Club.

Who will win the Monte Carlo Masters 2022?

In the Monte Carlo betting odds of the bookmakers, Carlos Alacaraz will probably be among the top favourites to win the tournament. The young star most recently won the Masters1000 tournament in Miami.

However, the world number one Novak Djokovic is now also back in the tournament. Daniil Medvedev and Rafael Nadal, on the other hand, will be missing due to injury.

Monte Carlo Masters 2022: The favourites in the betting odds

Who are the favourites for the Monte Carlo Masters 2022? A question that is not too easy to answer in advance for various reasons.

Although world number two Daniil Medvedev (RUS/hernia), 11-time Monte Carlo champion Rafael Nadal (ESP/ATP No. 4, stress fracture of a rib) and Matteo Berrettini (ITA, surgery on his right hand) had to cancel their participation in the Monte Carlo Masters, the list of title favourites is still quite long.

Young star Carlos Alcaraz, who grew up on the red clay, world number one Novak Djokovic and also Miami finalist Caspar Ruud are three examples who could be tips for the tournament victory at the Monte Carlo betting and odds.

And then there would be last year’s winner and defending champion Stefanos Tsitsipas as well as world number three Alexander Zverev.

Monte Carlo betting insider tip Carlos Alacaraz

Meanwhile, Spain’s shooting star Carlos Alcaraz could be far more than just an insider tip in Monte Carlo Masters betting and odds.

The 19-year-old not only provided numerous bests in his youth, with which he even outplayed Nadal, but he also played very strongly recently.

In Indian Wells, Alcaraz reached the semi-finals and was only beaten by Nadal there. He then won the Miami Open – as the third youngest player ever to win a Masters1000 event.

Will the teenager from Murcia now do the same at the Monte Carlo Masters 2022?

Alcaraz is certainly capable of it, after all, as a Spaniard he grew up playing tennis on the red clay. In the Monte Carlo betting odds for the tournament victory, he will again be in the top field.

Returner Novak Djokovic a title favourite?

Novak Djokovic is returning to the big tennis stage. After the world number one was not allowed to compete in the Masters events in Indian Wells and Miami because he cannot present a Corona vaccination, the 34-year-old Serb is allowed to compete again in the Principality.

The question remains: How will Djokovic present himself at the first major clay court tournament of the year?

So far this season, he has only been able to gain a little match practice. He was only allowed to play the 500 tournament in Dubai this year – and there he already failed in the quarter-finals against Jiri Vesely.

“I lack match practice, you can see that,” he had said self-critically afterwards.

On the other hand, Djokovic had plenty of time to prepare perfectly for the clay court season. He lives in the Principality and has had his training base at the picturesquely situated Monte Carlo Masters for more than 15 years.

Djokovic will be one of the candidates for the title at the Monte Carlo Masters 2022 betting odds. After all, the Djoker has already won here twice, most recently in 2015.

For Djokovic, his home match is also about two other things: consolidating his narrow lead in the world rankings and putting himself in position for his big goal: Defending his title at the French Open.

The Alexander Zverev enigma

Germany’s current best tennis player has not covered himself in glory recently. After the scandal in Acapulco (racket against umpire’s chair), things didn’t go well in sporting terms either.

At the Masters in Indian Wells, after a walk-through in round 1, he already failed in the 2nd round, which is de facto the same as an opening defeat. In Miami, he lost to Caspar Ruud in the quarter-finals.

Before that, things did not go well for Zverev either. An early exit in Montpellier and at the Australian Open made for a rather poor start to the season.

What are Zverev’s chances in Monte Carlo?

If the Monte Carlo 2022 betting odds of the betting providers are anything to go by, then Zverev will probably be counted among the extended circle of title candidates. After all, he is the world No. 3 and feels quite comfortable on the red clay.

Miami Open Betting Odds

Who else besides Djokovic, Alcaraz and Zverev could be in contention to win the title at the 2022 Monte Carlo Masters? Apparently, a lot of them. The list of title contenders for victory in the Principality is long.

If the rankings in the world rankings are anything to go by, Stefanos Tsitsipas (number 5), Caspar Ruud (7th) and Andrey Rublev (8th) are three contenders for the Monte Carlo tournament title.

Tsitsipas, in particular, will return to the Monte Carlo Country Club with a grin on his face – after all, the Greek won here last year and is therefore serving as the defending champion in the Principality.

Behind this trio, however, there are other promising co-favourites. Italy’s youngster Jannik Sinner would be one, as perhaps would Cameron Norrie, who is currently number 10 in the ATP world rankings.

On clay court, Diego Schwartzman could also be a force to be reckoned with. The little Argentine always thrives on his favourite surface. Why not on the Mediterranean?

The Monte Carlo Masters prize money 2022

The prize money of the Masters1000 tournament in Monte Carlo this year totals 5,415,410 euros.

The winner of the tournament will receive 836,335 euros. In addition, he can look forward to 1000 world ranking points.

In addition to 500 points for the world ranking, the finalist will also receive 456,720 euros as a “consolation prize” for losing the final.
