Madrid Masters 2022: The favourites in the betting odds

Who are the favourites for the Madrid Masters 2022? The list is long and prominent.

Young star Carlos Alcaraz, who has grown up on the red clay, world number one Novak Djokovic and also clay court king Rafael Nadal are just three examples who could be the pick to win the tournament at Madrid Masters betting odds.

And then there would be last year’s winner Alexander Zverev or Monte Carlo winner Stefanos Tsitsipas.

Madrid Open Betting: Favourite Carlos Alacaraz

More than just an insider’s tip in Madrid Masters betting and odds is Spain’s shooting star Carlos Alcaraz.

The 19-year-old not only provided numerous bests in his youth, with which he even outplayed Nadal, but he also played very strongly recently.

In Indian Wells, Alcaraz reached the semi-finals and was only beaten by Nadal there. He then won the Miami Open – as the third youngest player ever to win a Masters1000 event.

Although he was eliminated in Monte Carlo at the start of the tournament, this was probably due to the exertions in the USA. He won the clay court tournament in Barcelona, which belongs to the 500 category. This is his second clay court title this season after Rio in February.

Alcaraz would definitely be confident of a Madrid triumph, after all, as a Spaniard he grew up playing tennis on the red clay. He is right at the top of the Madrid Open 2022 betting odds for the tournament win.

Is Novak Djokovic a co-favourite?

Novak Djokovic returned to the big tennis stage. After the world number one was not allowed to compete at the Masters events in Indian Wells and Miami because he cannot present a Corona vaccination, the 34-year-old Serb was allowed to compete again at the Monte Carlo Masters.

However, he already lost his opening match there. It was the second early exit after his appearance in February at the 500 tournament in Dubai, where he failed to beat Jiri Vesely.

“I lack match practice, you can see that,” he had said self-critically afterwards. That could be a little better now. At the clay court tournament in Belgrade, Djokovic reached the final – but lost there to Andrej Rublev.

In the Madrid Masters betting odds 2022 Djokovic will be counted among the title candidates. After all, the Djoker has won here three times. After 2011 and 2017, it was the case in 2019.

Madrid 2022 odds for Rafael Nadal

The clay court king returns to his red kingdom. After Rafael Nadal had to take a break due to injury recently, he makes his comeback in Madrid.

Can the Spanish veteran pick up where he left off? Nadal won the Australian Open in January, then in Acapulco and reached the final in Indian Wells. He was the season’s dominator until a rib injury stopped him.

Nadal has won the Madrid Open five times. In 2005, 2010, 2013, 2014 and most recently in 2017. Last year, he reached the quarter-finals but lost to Alexander Zverev.

In Madrid Masters betting and odds, Rafa will certainly be among the title favourites.

Zverev comes to Madrid as defending champion

Germany’s current best tennis player is in crisis. He has regularly been eliminated early this season – be it at the Australian Open, in Indian Wells or most recently in Munich.

In between, there were a few bright spots, such as the quarter-finals in Miami or the semi-finals at the Masters 1000 tournament in Monte Carlo. But ultimately too little for his demands and ambitions.

Zverev comes to the Madrid Open at the Caja Magica as last year’s winner and thus as the defending champion. Do the memories of that boost morale or does it create even more pressure?

If the Madrid Open 2022 betting odds of the bookmakers are anything to go by, Zverev will probably be counted among the extended circle of title candidates. After all, he is ranked No. 3 in the world and basically feels quite comfortable on the red clay.

Other Madrid Open betting odds contenders

Who else besides Alcaraz, Nadal and Djokovc could be in contention to win the title at the Madrid Masters 2022? Apparently, a lot of them.

The list of contenders for the title in the Spanish capital is quite extensive according to the bookmakers’ betting odds and predictions.

If the rankings in the world rankings are anything to go by, Stefanos Tsitsipas (number 5), Caspar Ruud (7th) and Andrey Rublev (8th) are certainly three contenders for the Madrid tournament victory.

Tsitsipas in particular would be something of an insider’s tip in Madrid Open betting. He won the Masters event in Monte Carlo. Anyone who can win in the Principality could do so in Madrid as well. Small but perhaps huge difference: Madrid’s altitude compared to Monte Carlo right by the sea.

The tournament chances of Ruud (who has already won several clay-court events in his career and has stealthily played his way into the top 10) and Rublev, Djokovic’s most recent winner in his home country Belgrade, are also more than intact.

On clay court, Diego Schwartzman could also be a force to be reckoned with. The little Argentinean always flourishes on his favourite surface. Why not in the “magic box”?

The Madrid Masters prize money 2022

The prize money of the Masters1000 tournament in Monte Carlo this year totals 6,744,165 euros.

The winner of the tournament will receive one million euros. In addition, he can look forward to 1000 world ranking points.

In addition to 500 points for the world ranking, the finalist also receives 568,790 euros as a “consolation prize” for losing the final.
