US Open, quarter-finals, Tuesday, 03.09.2024, 19:30
Him again! Alexander Zverev is through to the quarter-finals at the US Open as planned and will face the man who recently buried his dreams at Wimbledon on Tuesday. So is it time for revenge?
But beware: this one opponent, who also has a home match in New York, is in really good form! In my Fritz Zverev betting tip, I take a close look at the match and tell you why you should back the betting tip 1 +1.5 HC!
Alexander Zverev has made it to the quarter-finals of the US Open for the fourth time in a row! The big goal is of course still a little further away, as the Hamburg-born player is still chasing the dream of finally winning a major.
How does he perform in the Big Apple, is there nothing to shake about his victories or is it sometimes close? As is so often the case, it is a mixture of different results, but they seem to be slowly becoming more confident.
The best example of this is his recent performance against Brandon Nakashima in the round of 16. He conceded a single break (Nakashima didn’t have any more chances), which meant 3-6 in the first set.
After that, however, Zverev pulled through, snatching a 6-1, 6-2, 6-2. It was his best performance at this tournament, and by far, if we look at all the important numbers for this match
71% successful first serves, 88% points won on first serve, 52:17 points as a returner, that was something to be proud of! Things looked very different against Tomas Martin Etcheverry.
The German had won 5-7, 7-5, 6-1, 6-3, but gave his opponent an unbelievable 15 opportunities to break and was also unable to surpass himself in terms of service (62% successful first serves, 74% points won in the first).
The 6-4, 7-6, 6-1 performance against Alexandre Müller was solid from Zverev’s side, and for the sake of completeness, the 6-2, 6-7, 6-3, 6-2 win against Maximilian Marterer should also be mentioned.
The 27-year-old has now dropped the first set twice in a row, so you could of course place a bet on that. Top bookmaker Bet365 is offering odds of 2.10 on the assumption that there will also be a false start on Tuesday.
Bet365 also offers an odds boost of 25 percent for betting on the winner of the US Open
Zverev has already met Taylor Fritz nine times in his career and leads the direct comparison by a wafer-thin margin of 5:4. The last duel was by no means a long time ago, at Wimbledon and went to the American 4-6, 6-7, 6-4, 7-6, 6-4.
So Zverev still lost after leading 2:0 in sets, which really wasn’t necessary. The 2021 Olympic champion had won the Masters in Rome a few weeks earlier.
The two have faced each other on the big stage three times, always at Wimbledon. 14 sets, five tiebreaks – all of these matches were tough! So an outright victory, regardless of which side, is certainly not on the cards for me.
Zverev is the bookmakers’ favorite anyway, but the odds of 1.60 to 2.30 also make it clear that a very close match is expected. The fact that Taylor Fritz has a chance of winning in any case is made clear by his results from New York
For the second time since 2023 (when he was clearly knocked out by Novak Djokovic), Fritz has reached the quarter-finals of his home Grand Slam tournament, which he thoroughly deserves after the last few days.
After his 7-5, 6-1, 6-2 win over Camilo Ugo Carabelli to open the tournament, he also won easily against Matteo Berrettini, winning 6-3, 7-6, 6-1. Francisco Comesana was not competitive at 6-3, 6-4, 6-2.
And so Fritz played his way into the round of the best 16 without much effort, always winning more than 80% of the points on his first serve. Until Casper Ruud, one of the best, was waiting, who promptly took the first set 6-3.
What sounds confident was actually due to the only break Fritz conceded in the entire match. After losing that set, he pulled through, winning 3-6, 6-4, 6-3, 6-2 and claiming the next top match.
24 aces, 79% points won on his first serve and even 96% on his second serve – Alexander Zverev will have to watch out like hell. For the first time he used less than 50% of his break chances, four out of ten against Ruud
My Fritz Zverev tip
They know each other! Alexander Zverev and Taylor Fritz meet for the third time this year, the score is 1:1. The US-American has absolutely impressed me with his performances, serving as strong as a bear.
The German’s service has been getting stronger and stronger of late, but he hasn’t had to play a top opponent yet, which I see a little differently for Fritz in the duel against Ruud.
All in all, I’ve decided to bet on the following tip, although the close games in the head-to-head comparison also play a role here, of course:
A HC of 1.5 is enough for Fritz to “win”!
