Wimbledon, round of 16, Monday, 08.07.2024

Not a set lost, not a service game dropped, Alexander Zverev strolls through the first rounds of Wimbledon, showing his best grass court tennis to date. The German can rely on his service game in particular, but he also makes his mark in his return game time and again.

Most recently, he took local hero Cameron Norrie out of the match, which ended in a marathon tie-break. Now it’s on to Taylor Fritz, who has also sold well so far.

Zverev is only considered a slight favorite, but in my opinion the match is a clear affair for the German. In my Fritz Zverev betting tip, I am therefore speculating on a victory for the world’s fourth player, Betano has excellent odds!

The only person who has been able to make Zverev jittery in the days of Wimbledon so far is successful soccer coach Pep Guardiola. After the reigning Olympic champion’s third 3-0 win, he had a few words for the Man City coach, who was sitting in the stands, in the winner’s interview.

“When I saw him here, I got nervous,” Zverev admitted and offered him two jobs with his rascally humor. “Bayern needs a coach, Pep. Alternatively, you can also become my tennis coach.”

He declined with a clear gesture and a smile on his face. I wonder what Guardiola’s former protégé and Bayern coach Vincent Kompany thought of the offer…

In the interviews after the matches, Zverev appears more relaxed than ever. In any case, he plays more freely than ever, making one of his best starts at a major tournament. Perhaps it suits his mentality that he doesn’t see himself as the favorite on grass and the pressure of his own expectations is lower

The trio of Carlos Alcaraz, Jannik Sinner and Novak Djokovic are in the lead with the top betting providers. The two-time winner of the ATP Finals follows with a large gap and, in some cases, double-digit tournament win odds.

Roberto Carballes Baena and Marcos Giron did not make it and Norrie was also unable to take a set or even a service game from Zverev despite the support of his home fans. Zverev has now lost seven grass court matches in 2024, 19 sets and one service game.

He lays the foundation with his dangerous first serve, which he plays more reliably than anyone else in the world. The ATP statistics show that. His opponent in the round of 16, Fritz, hits around twelve percent fewer first serves into the targeted court (61 percent).

At Betano, Fritz is only considered a slight outsider at 2.52, while Zverev’s odds of 1.55 are definitely top. Although the green surface is still not Zverev’s favorite surface, the bookies still underestimate him a little too much in my opinion

Betano is an official partner of the 2024 European Championships, which will be paused until the semi-finals on Tuesday and Wednesday. In addition to a large betting selection and high odds, a big advantage is the fact that you can place your first bets at Betano without making a deposit.

New customers receive a free bet of 20 euros, which will be credited to you after successful verification. If you dare to go for the outright win for Zverev, you can even pick up a 3.25. However, I find the tiebreak market even more interesting.

Zverev and Fritz are ranked second and fourth in the ATP service rating and the man from San Diego has only dropped one service game in the first rounds of Wimbledon. I’m expecting a service festival. Over 1.5 tiebreaks are not unrealistic on the fastest surface!

Fritz’s victory over Alejandro Tabilo was his seventh in a row, before the days in Wimbledon he snatched the title in Eastbourne, where he even went six sets without losing. Only Arthur Rinderknech managed one set in the second round in London.

It is also interesting to look at the direct duel between Fritz and Zverev. Match number ten is coming up at Wimbledon, Zverev, who dominated the only 2024 match on clay in Rome, leads 6:3. There have also already been two matches on grass and at Wimbledon. A three-year tradition is emerging.

The last Wimbledon matches between the stars were in 2018 and 2021. Zverev came out on top both times, once in five sets and in the second encounter in four sets with two tiebreaks at the time.

Fritz was more competitive on hard court, where the score is 3:3. Overall, Zverev now serves even more consistently and is also the stronger man on the return

My Fritz Zverev tip

We probably won’t see many breaks in Fritz’s match against Zverev. Zverev’s serve is still completely white at Wimbledon and Fritz has only dropped one service game. An over-tiebreak bet is not a bad choice.

After three successful Zverev bets in the first three rounds, I don’t opt for the 3:0 this time, but hedge my bets with the simple win odds.

As in the previous duel in Rome, Zverev’s better defensive qualities and higher first serve odds are likely to make the difference. He should get into the break regions more often.

I also think the favorite has the edge when it comes to nerves of steel: Zverev wins 75 percent of decisive sets, Fritz just about every other set.

My Fritz Zverev tip is therefore: Victory Zverev!
