French Open today – Matches on May 31
New day, new luck! At the French Open in Paris, several stars will be looking to pave their way to the round of 16 on Saturday. Elimination is out of the question for the big names, but there can always be surprises in our French Open tips today.
From a German perspective, I am naturally keeping an eye on Alexander Zverev, because with Daniel Altmaier, a fellow countryman, in the round of 16, Germany’s best tennis player cannot afford to lose.
The same goes for Jannik Sinner, of course, as the world number one, a good performance in Paris is a must. Novak Djokovic, who has nothing left to prove to anyone, wants to advance in three sets – against the man flying the flag for Austria.
The schedule for Saturday, typical for round 3, still has a few matches in store. I have picked out five for you and would now like to present them to you in more detail, along with a betting recommendation.
French Open tips today – May 31, 2025
Jannik Sinner has made it through the first two rounds without any problems, and of course he wants to continue that run at the weekend. The world number one is the clear favorite against Jiri Lehecka.
The reigning Hamburg champion faces Alexander Zverev – and from a German perspective, it’s unlikely to be any different! Flavio Cobolli is in really good form, and Zverev should not underestimate him.
For Jack Draper, one of the best players in the world right now, the third round of the French Open should not be the end of the road. He faces Joao Fonseca, who sent Hubert Hurkacz home in a complete surprise a few days ago.
Will we see a close, evenly matched duel between Andrey Rublev and Arthur Fils? The two are very close in the world rankings, so even the smallest details could be decisive here.
Filip Misolic has fought his way into the third round as a qualifier and now faces a tough reward in the form of Novak Djokovic. There’s no question that an Austrian victory would make history.
French Open broadcast today: Where are the matches being played on May 31?
Slowly but surely, fewer and fewer matches are being played at the same time, so there are more and more rallies to watch live. This Saturday, you’re in good hands with Eurosport again, where you can also watch the French Open via live stream.
French Open today, May 31: Jannik Sinner – Jiri Lehecka (12:10 p.m.)
The doping break does not seem to have hurt Jannik Sinner. The world number one, who lost the final in Rome to Carlos Alcaraz, started the French Open 2025 with a solid 6-4, 6-3, 7-5 win over Arthur Rinderknech, followed by a 6-3, 6-0, 6-4 victory over Richard Gasquet. With 85% of points won on his first serve and no breaks conceded, the second round was a strong performance.
Sinner goes into the match against Jiri Lehecka with odds of 1.05 to 8.00, with the South Tyrolean winning both previous encounters. Lehecka defeated Jordan Thompson 6-4, 6-2, 6-1 and Alejandro Davidovich-Fokina 6-3, 3-6, 6-1, 6-2. Twelve aces and a 72% first serve success rate show that the Czech can serve too!
My expert tip: Tiebreak
French Open betting today, May 31: Alexander Zverev – Flavio Cobolli (1:10 p.m.)
After his smooth victory against Learner Tien (6-3, 6-3, 6-4) in the first round, Alexander Zverev showed his first slight weakness in the second round against Jesper de Jong, winning 3-6, 6-1, 6-2, 6-3. He gave his opponent nine chances to break. He now faces Flavio Cobolli for the first time.
According to the bookmakers, Zverev is ahead with odds of 1.20 to 4.30. The Italian won the Hamburg tournament just a few days ago, beating Andrey Rublev, among others, in straight sets. In Paris, he has so far knocked out Marin Cilic (6-2, 6-1, 6-3) and Matteo Arnaldi (6-3, 6-3, 6-7, 6-1).
My expert tip: Set win Cobolli
Tennis betting today 31.05.: Joao Fonseca – Jack Draper (1:20 p.m.)
Jack Draper is automatically one of the favorites in Paris, after all, he is number 5 in the world rankings. He won both of his first two rounds in four sets, defeating Mattia Bellucci (3-6, 6-1, 6-4, 6-2) and Gael Monfils (6-3, 4-6, 6-3, 7-5). He has already had an incredible 40 break points, but has only converted 13 of them.
He is favored against Joao Fonseca, but the odds are not too clear at 1.48 to 2.55. The Portuguese lost in straight sets to Draper in Indian Wells, but now in Paris he has performed well, especially in his 6-2, 6-4, 6-2 victory over Hubert Hurkacz. In the second round, he narrowly defeated Pierre-Hugues Herbert 7-6, 7-6, 6-4.
My expert tip: Over 3.5 sets
Tennis betting today 31.05.: Andrey Rublev – Arthur Fils (1:50 p.m.)
With his appearance in the Hamburg final, Andrey Rublev has recommended himself for the French Open, starting in Paris with a 6-4, 4-6, 6-3, 6-1 win over Lloyd Harris. He followed that up with a smooth 7-6, 6-1, 7-6 victory over Adam Walton. He will be aware that a few weeks ago he lost in straight sets to his current opponent Arthur Fils in Monte Carlo.
With odds of 1.60 to 2.25, the Russian has the advantage. Fils already has nine sets under his belt. After defeating Nicolas Jarry 6-3, 6-4, 6-7, 6-3 in the first round, he almost lost his nerve against Jaume Munar, losing 7-6, 7-6, 2-6, 0-6, 6-4.
My expert tip: Tiebreak
French Open today, May 31: Filip Misolic – Novak Djokovic (8:15 p.m.)
Will Filip Misolic be the big sensation of the French Open? After surviving the qualifiers, the Austrian has already won twice. He started with a 5-7, 7-6, 7-6, 6-1 victory over Bu Yunchaokete, then impressed shortly afterwards with a 7-6, 7-6, 4-6, 4-6, 6-3 win over Denis Shapovalov. He will now face Novak Djokovic for the first time in his career and is, of course, the clear underdog with odds of 9.75 to 1.04.
Novak Djokovic has not put a foot wrong in Paris so far. His results: 6-3, 6-3, 6-3 against Mackenzie McDonald and 6-3, 6-2, 7-6 against Corentin Moutet. However, with five break points against him in each match, his serve is not absolutely brilliant.
My expert tip: Set win Misolic
