French Open today – Matches from May 29.
Some have already finished their second appearances, others still have theirs ahead of them. At the 2025 French Open, we are moving quickly towards the first weekend, and the number of matches is already dwindling.
In our French Open tips today, I take a look at which players will be sent out onto the court on Thursday – and it is particularly exciting that Alexander Zverev is among them again.
Last year’s finalist got off to a confident start and now wants to advance quickly to the third round. After him, it’s Jannik Sinner’s turn, one of the big favorites for the title.
While veteran Gael Monfils has drawn a very tough opponent, I’ll also be keeping an eye on what Novak Dokovic is capable of. I don’t want to forget qualifier Filip Misolic, who has a realistic chance of advancing.
French Open tips today – May 29, 2025
Alexander Zverev had a completely smooth first round in Paris. To keep all his cards in his hand, he should also come through his match against Jesper de Jong unscathed.
The same goes for Jannik Sinner, the world number one who wants to show everyone what he is capable of after his doping ban. He faces a very experienced opponent in Richard Gasquet on Thursday, but the South Tyrolean is naturally the favorite.
How will Novak Djokovic approach this second round? The Serb showed no nerves at the start of the tournament, and it’s hard to imagine that things will be any different against Corentin Moutet.
Filip Misolic is flying the flag for Austria in Paris. He fought his way through qualifying to reach the second round, where he faces a challenging but not unbeatable opponent in Denis Shapovalov.
Jack Draper could have an easier opponent in the second round – no one likes playing against veteran Gael Monfils! The Frenchman is also likely to have the crowd on his side.

French Open betting today, May 29: Alexander Zverev – Jesper de Jong (12:10 p.m.)
It was exactly the start Alexander Zverev needed after a difficult preparation. He defeated Learner Tien 6-3, 6-3, 6-4 without dropping a break point and winning 90% of points on his first serve and 70% on his second. For the second time since Hamburg 2024 (6-2, 6-2), he will now face Jesper de Jong.
The Dutchman prevailed in a hard-fought match against Francesco Passaro 3-6, 6-7, 6-4, 7-6, 6-1. For the second time after 2024, he is in the second round in Paris, but the Dutchman has never gone further than that. The odds are clearly in Zverev’s favor with an average of 1.103 to 13.0.
My expert tip: 3:0 Zverev
Tennis betting today, May 29: Jannik Sinner – Richard Gasquet (1:10 p.m.)
After months of suspension for doping, Jannik Sinner made an impressive comeback with a lost final in Rome (6-7, 1-6 against Carlos Alcaraz). In Paris, the South Tyrolean won his opening match 6-4, 6-3, 7-5 against Arthur Rinderknech. He converted five of six break points.
He is the clear favorite against Richard Gasquet, the next French player, with odds of 1.01 to 17.0. Gasquet, almost 39 years old, has lost all previous matches against Sinner, including a 4-6, 2-6, 4-6 defeat in the second round exactly one year ago. The veteran survived the first round this time around with a 6-2, 2-6, 6-3, 6-0 win over Terence Atmane.
My expert tip: 3:0 Sinner
Tennis betting today 29.05.: Corentin Moutet – Novak Djokovic (1:50 p.m.)
Novak Djokovic is of course one of the favorites for the title in Paris. The veteran was embarrassingly knocked out in the first round in Monte Carlo and Madrid, but bounced back with the title in Geneva. Roland Garros 2025 started with a solid 6-3, 6-3, 6-3 win over Mackenzie McDonald. He scored 81% of points on his first serve and 74% on his second.
He is ahead against Corentin Moutet at Oddset with odds of 1.05 to 8.50. The Frenchman has lost both previous matches against Djoker, but he has made a strong start in Paris with a 6-3, 7-6, 6-3 victory. However, he gave away eleven break points, six of which were converted by Clement Tabur.
My expert tip: Tiebreak
French Open today, May 29: Denis Shapovalov – Filip Misolic (3:00 p.m.)
Filip Misolic has made it through the French Open qualifiers with flying colors. He defeated Liam Draxl (6-2, 6-2), Lukas Neumayer (7-6, 7-5) and Alexander Shevchenko (6-4, 6-4), and started the main round with a strong 5-7, 7-6, 7-6, 6-1 victory over Bu Yunchaokete.
His title win at the Challenger in Prague at the beginning of May was probably no coincidence. Denis Shapovalov breezed into the second round, beating Pedro Martinez 6-2, 6-6, 6-3. He was particularly efficient in converting break points, winning eight out of eleven. He is favored against Misolic, but not by much, with odds of 1.55 to 2.45.
My expert tip: Over 3.5 sets
French Open today, May 29: Gael Monfils – Jack Draper (8:15 p.m.)
At 38, Gael Monfils wants to give it another go at his home Grand Slam. The veteran was on the verge of being eliminated in the first round, but won against Hugo Dellien 4-6, 3-6, 6-1, 7-6, 6-1. It was a break festival, with him converting seven of 21 opportunities and his opponent five of 16. Monfils won a match for the first time since early April.
He trails Jack Draper 5.00 to 1.15 in the odds. The Brit, ranked number 5 in the world, lost the first set 3-6, 6-1, 6-4, 6-2 to Mattia Bellucci, but came back even stronger despite his seven double faults. Interestingly, this is his first ever win in the main draw of the French Open.
My expert tip: Set win Monfils
