French Open tips today – Matches today from 31.05.
Slowly but surely the hot phase at the French Open 2022 is dawning! The quarter-finals are a real challenge, especially in the men’s singles where the favourites for the title meet directly. It is clear that one or the other drama is inevitable.
The match schedule for Tuesday includes duels that would actually fit much better into a final. The summit meeting of the two giants Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal alone is worth devoting this day entirely to tennis.
What is German hope Alexander Zverev doing, who is still under the curse of never having beaten a player from the top 10 at a Grand Slam? He now has to try it against prodigy Carlos Alcaraz, of all people.
In the women’s singles, apart from top favourite Iga Swiatek, the competition is so close that anything can happen in any match. It is quite possible that Cori Gauff, a very young player, will be in the semi-finals.
French Open tips today – 31.05.2022 Preview of Day 10
The clash between Alexander Zverev and Carlos Alcaraz will electrify the fans on Centre Court. The Spaniard won clearly a few weeks ago, but will he now be able to reach a semi-final at the French Open for the first time?
Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal have already met 58 times, and now one will be eliminated in the quarter-finals in each case. Nadal may be the record champion, but for all that, the world No. 1 is in captivating form in Paris and has yet to lose a set.
An American duel, one is just 18, the other 29. Small things will probably decide between Cori Gauff and Sloane Stephens. But since the younger player has won every set so far, she could snatch the biggest success of her career on Wednesday.
Martina Trevisan has reached the quarter-finals of the French Open for the second time and has also beaten Kerber’s opponent Aliaksandra Sasnovich. Will Leylah Fernandez be the next to be eliminated?

French Open tips today 31.05.: Alexander Zverev – Carlos Alcaraz (14:30 h)
How strong is Alexander Zverev really? On Tuesday, we will get a clear answer to that. After a mixed year in 2022, the Olympic champion has made it to the quarter-finals, but it shouldn’t stop there. The aim is to break the curse.
Zverev has never been able to beat an opponent from the top 10 at a Grand Slam. The current opponents were not too difficult yet, he defeated Sebastian Ofter, Sebastian Baez (after 0:2), Brandon Nakashima and Bernabe Miralles.
He needed three tiebreaks in the last two rounds, Alcaraz has fought his way through the tournament with less effort. Apart from the lapse against Albert Ramos, where he fended off match points to win 3:2, he left nothing to be desired.
Whether Juan Londero, Sebastian Korda or Karen Khachanov, the 19-year-old beat them all clearly. The odds of 1.20 to 4.30 make it clear how much the bookmakers are counting on him. Could it be because he beat Zverev 6-3, 6-1 in Madrid a few weeks ago?
Our Expert Tip: 3:0 Alcaraz
French Open tips today 31.05: Novak Djokovic – Rafael Nadal (20:45)
With 30:28 Novak Djokovic leads in the overall record, with 7:2 Rafael Nadal in terms of French Open. Two of the best players ever face each other on Wednesday, unfortunately not both can make it to the semi-finals.
Nadal is the record champion in Paris, but unfortunately he is not really fit at the moment. Even before the start of the tournament he confirmed: there are some things wrong. After three straight wins against manageable rivals, Nadal was part of a real thriller.
3-6, 6-3, 6-2, 3-6, 6-3, this match against Felix Auger-Aliassime took energy. What Djokovic showed in the French capital, on the other hand, was the purest demonstration of power. The Serb did not give away a single set!
Yoshihito Nishioka, Alex Molcan and Aljaz Bedene may not have been real opponents for him yet, but anyone who beats Diego Schwartzman 6-1, 6-3, 6-3 makes it impressively clear who calls the shots on Centre Court. With odds of 1.45 to 2.90, he is therefore also in the lead with the betting providers.
Our Expert Tip: Djokovic to win
French Open tips today 31.05.: Cori Gauff – Sloane Stephens (13:15)
At just 18, is Cori Gauff already reaching an absolute milestone in her fledgling career? The American has played a solid, but by no means excellent 2022 so far, so she’s performing all the better in Paris.
Here she is in the quarter-finals for the second time in a row and has not dropped a single set. Rebecca Marino, Alison Van Uytvanck, Kaia Kanepi and Elise Mertens all had no chance, the recent 6-4, 6-0 win over the Belgian was particularly strong.
Sloane Stephens has gained much more experience at the age of 29, and the French Open might be her favourite Grand Slam. In 2018, she lost the final here to Simona Halep, but now she senses another chance. Although she was not at all in form before Paris, her current performances are absolutely right.
In the first two rounds against Jule Niemeier and Sorana Cirstea she only got really good after losing the first set, but Diane Parry and especially Jill Teichmann eventually lost out in two sets. 1.45 to 2.70, Stephens still has to live with playing only second fiddle with the bookmakers.
Our expert tip: Win both sets
French Open tips today 31.05.: Martina Trevisan – Leylah Fernandez (12:00 h)
Martina Trevisan in the quarter-finals at a Grand Slam? You couldn’t necessarily expect that in Paris! The Italian fought her way into the round of the best eight without losing a set, even though her opponents were not the most difficult.
Harriet Dart, Magda Linette and Daria Gavrilola were all unable to do anything. Only against Aliaksandra Sasonvich did she have to push herself to the limit, and in the end she won 7-6, 7-5. Trevisan is only 1.60 metres tall, but will that be her undoing against Leylah Fernandez?
The Canadian is only eight centimetres taller, so there shouldn’t be too much of a disadvantage here. After her US Open final in 2021, she is again reaching for an absolute top result.
Mladenovic, Siniakova, Bencic and Anisimova, she has already beaten some strong players in Paris this year. In the last two rounds, however, she needed three sets. With odds of 1.45 to 2.65, she is still in the lead against Trevisan.
Our expert tip: 2:1 Fernandez
