ATP Finals in Turin, Preliminary Round, Wednesday
On Wednesday, tennis ace Novak Djokovic will look to continue his winning ways. The world number one will clash with Andrey Rublev at the ATP Finals in Turin. My prediction tends clearly in the direction of the favourite.
In the Green Group, there should be no doubt about the winner with the Djokovic Rublev tip, but the lack of Head2Head statistics makes it difficult to find a suitable bet. Read here which betting tips are nevertheless recommended.
One thing in advance: Novak Djokovic and Andrey Rublev will meet in Turin for the first time ever! Just how hot the premiere match is likely to be is clear from the standings.
Both players could advance to the next round with a win and decide the group in their favour. The first-placed player can look forward to an easier path to the final, as he will meet the runner-up of the Red Group in the semi-finals.
Top favourite Djokovic will put all his focus on winning. Then he could enter the last group match against Stefanos Tsitsipas in energy-saving mode – provided the latter loses to Casper Ruud beforehand.
In the first match of the tournament, the “Djoker” defeated Ruud 7-6 (6/4), 6-2, continuing the Serb’s impressive winning streak.
Since his defeat in the final of the US Open, Djokovic has won one singles match after another. He won six matches en suite.
Nevertheless, the clash with Rublev should not be taken lightly. Even though Ruud (8th in the ATP rankings) recently won 2:0, it should be much more difficult against the world number five.
Rublev was also jubilant at the start of the tournament. Thanks to a 6:4, 6:4 win over the Greek Stefanos Tsitsipas, he made a perfect start in Turin. This is certainly good for his self-confidence, because the matches before were anything but successful.
At the end of September, the Russian reached the semifinals in San Diego, but then the upswing came to an end. In St. Petersburg and at the Indian Wells Masters, he lost to his second opponent.
At the tournaments in Moscow and Paris, he even lost to his first opponent. However, the 24-year-old never allowed himself to be duped.
A look at the ATP ranking reveals that a new generation is approaching the tennis throne. Djokovic, at 34, is after all one of the sport’s old hands.
Behind him are players who are all under 26 years old. In tenth place is “oldie” Rafael Nadal.
Why not place a bet on the young, hungry Russian with the Djokovic Rublev tip? This question can be answered with the help of the form of both players. Rublev weakened before the start in Turin, the “Djoker, on the other hand, cleaned up everything.
Instead, I’ll make another bet. The fact that the top seed struggled in the first set against Ruud, struggling to a 7-6 win, makes a bet on a corresponding number of games sound quite tempting.
The Serb also had to play ten games in the first set in two of the three previous matches.
Djokovic still looks like a master of his craft, but against a top opponent a tight start to the match seems conceivable. Unibet is offering attractive odds of 2.04 for over 9.5 games in the first set.
The fact is that Rublev is one of the best five players in the world and won his opening match against Tsitsipas. This should guarantee a hot start, because for him, too, it’s about advancing to the semifinals.
If the tennis pro wins against the “Djoker” and Ruud loses to Tsitsipas at the same time, Rublev will be through.
In the victory over the Greek there were also more than 9.5 games to admire in the first set. The Russian won the first set 6:4
In my Djokovic Rublev prediction, it hardly pays to bet on the “Djoker”. A maximum odds of 1.25 is available for a favourite win, while a Rublev win still offers odds of up to 4.35.
Of course, bets with handicap potential sound quite tempting, but I focus on the number of sets.
Due to Djokovic’s initial difficulties recently and the resurgent opponent named Rublev, I expect an exciting first set.
Therefore, my tip is: In the duel between Djokovic and Rublev there will be over 9.5 games in the first set!
